Thanks for watching!
Sweet sounding whistle!
nice video and great catch of the steam train at Strasbourg.
Oh, what a sweet sound!
Imagine that racing up and down the main from Jamaica, every hour of the day and night?
It's good that Pennsylvania steam is returning to Strasburg now that 1223 and 7002 are retired.
+Jonathan Mason Yes, please help us realize the vision of a coal fire and popping valves of a Pennsylvania/LIRR iron work-horse with the help of your support! Thank you!
LIRR 39: I’ll be back!
PRR 1361: Me too!
PRR 5550: Me three!
That sound like a mix of 7312 and 475's three chime.
***** Also sounds like Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad #5 which used an Ashton Valve 3 chime at MRSR. Besides Altoona being the supplier for 3 chimes, Ashton Valve was the smaller supplier, which also supplied whistles for LIRR, B&M, B&A and New Haven (info from a RR Museum of PA volunteer). I think that whistle on #7312, alot of people thought it was a Buckeye 3 chime, I think it might be an Ashton Valve 3 chime. Play a video of MRSR #5 or MRSR #17 using #5's whistle from 2014 and Strasburg #7312 at the same time and see what you think.
Erich Diebold It is not a Buckeye for sure.
***** And it could not have been a Crosby either; it had a very distinct sound.
Indeed. Did it not have another whistle in the 80's through early 90's?
***** It might have, maybe a 5 chime
When 39 gets restored will it be lettered Long Island, or strasburg?
#39 will be lettered LONG ISLAND once restored. Similar to #1223 and #7002, which stayed lettered PENNSYLVANIA.
