  • Floating Ideas: How the Erie Canal Helped Shape America examines the spread of ideas along the Erie Canal, with an emphasis on women’s rights, suffrage, and the quest for social justice.
The film threads together movements to end slavery and secure women’s right to vote. Themes include: the influence of the Haudenosaunee on suffragists like Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Matilda Joslyn Gage; the women left out of the suffrage narrative who faced voting barriers despite the passage of the 19th Amendment; and expanding opportunities for women today.
The documentary was produced by WCNY Public Media for the Erie Canalway National Heritage Corridor with funding support from the National Park Foundation, the National Park Service, and the New York State Canal Corporation.

Wow. So much rich news, I was not real awake during school history or geography classes. The Kingston Trio did an awesome rendition of the song Eerie Canal and suddenly this program popped up. Fascinating I will listen more than once and share.

Came to learn about the Erie Canal… giving up at 8:10. What the duck.

Some artificial canals now would be useful for another reason than boats navigation, too much good water is running down to the ocean and we suffer of too long dry season. Now we all know, atmosphere is made of tiny drops of water, the air is so dry due the extreme heat that is starting to burn out of nothing, digging more ditches in order to let water turn back to the inner lands could become the best solution against fire disasters...think about it guys, keep the memory alive and bring forward this genius idea, it can be helpfull in the future as well

There was a time when people had the courage to dream forward and get involved in such ...crazy impossible projects, seems that out there, a Holy hand from above gave them...a hand to succeed. From my behalf guys...the Mexican border should have another navigation canal if not a canyon, just enough to keep busy not welcomed immigrats, let them work for the American welfare . .. fighting back organized crime trafficking on desperate refugees is same expensive guys.. this is still a huge inspiration for the future. Sometimes recalling the Past you see, it's stimulating for people to believe, such miracles can still happen

Seriously why did it go from The Erie Canal to Lucretia Mott and Elizabeth Candy Stanton? And why was there so much Bs?

Why the hell did it go from:
Oh yea a canal from buffalo to NYC, to a bunch of social injustice BS?

It's very sad how women involved in political disputes become same aggressive meany bossy like men use to be, seeking for enemies to fight against, what if this enemy should be the global warming to fight against? What if we could stop this massacre game and go constructive? Most people need this sense of ...maternal love, someone to take good care of them like babies, giving them a chance to be happy kids, the political ...language might change as mothers use to persuade sons to do certain things rather than others

  • @melaniamonicacraciun9900

Now that we have electrical motors for most expensive Tesla vehicles, ask him Elon Musk, Is it possible to build up only the engines to be adapted to any kind of vehicles next? So we could spare fuels and gas for ...digging ditches and canals ....think about it guys Ok? I am the biggest supporter of yours, let's make ...America great again, what suprematists can not succeed oh yezzzzzz we CAN.. because People Have The Power

Since the massive use of airplanes in the States most ancient roads went abbandoned, wish you check, digging further canyon canals using ferries might help transports all across USA or not? Such infrastructures create a lot of jobs and welfare, if not for saving water, it worths the pain for having further touristic atractions when they become. ..luna park entertainment incomes, cruising America coast to coast, think about it guys, get in action, let's turn back to those ages when Americans love to be masters and owners of their country and stay united for the right things. Colorado River has a ... famous Horse Shoe...which means, any canal can have a U-turn, just check the maps where to build up new water ways. Mississippi River have those shameful swamps of infections open air manufacturing nothing but disgusting nasty mosquitos, at least half of it, let it become a navigation canal in order to bring back good water to the inner lands, think about it guys, welfare is about . ..the willing to move on things, giving investors a reason to get involved and why not? Having fun leaving something remarcable behind
