  • Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers lost 120-85 to the Miami Heat last night, and the series now shifts back to Philadelphia with the Sixers facing elimination on Thursday night. Embiid scored 17 points and had 5 rebounds in his first game since news leaked that Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokić beat him out for MVP this season. During halftime last night, Charles Barkley discussed if that news played an impact on Embiid’s performance, claiming Embiid was distracted heading into the contest. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe talk Joel Embiid, Sixers and Heat.

      The heat play well as a team. Jimmy Butler is gonna do what he can, sometimes he goes above and beyond but for the most part u can see why they win and lose games. If they play Miami basketball, more often than not they win but in games 3 and 4 they shot terribly and lost. Meanwhile in most places there's a focus player or 2 that you're looking for specifically to perform, i.e. Joel and Harden.

    mvp or not, Embiid put everything on line, fighting thru injuries.
    and for ppl criticizing Embiid for not attacking paint as much,
    he was playing with "broken" face ffs,
    which he was playing at risk of possibly losing his VISION.
    it's easier said than done, even at principle of "no pain, no gain".
    bc for most ppl, pro athletes or not, they wouldn't even dare play,
    if losing vision is at risk.

    For the people who are trying to use the injuries as an excuse need to realize that Embiid should still be able to give you the production he did throughout the regular season, He's averaging 12 shots a game this series and still making half his shots, he averaged 20 in the regular season and was making half of his shots, He's averaging around 35 minutes of playing time aswell so it's not like the injuries aren't allowing him to play, so why can't he just take more shots?

      I think the orbital fracture is affecting his aggressiveness. Shocked that he came back game 3. Usually need 6 weeks to return from that injury.

    • @bryanortiz1230
      @bryanortiz1230 Před 2 lety +1

      You're answering your own question. He has a torn ligament on his shooting thumb, meaning he can't grip or release the ball the way he'd like. Moreover, his orbital fracture and concussion add additional disorentiation, after all it was reported he had trouble even looking at his phone cause of its brightness. Lastly, the mask he has to wear reduces visibility. So in essence he can't shoot well, feels sick, and isn't able to see the hoop as well as he liked.
      Plus, there are additional factors. For example, the increased physicality of the playoffs means less free throws for Embiid which naturally results in a decrease in PPG. Additionally, he is being guarded by one of the best defenders in the league in Bam, and is the subject of a game plan that is trying to reduce the number of field goals he attempts. As a result, you get what looks like a sluggish version of Joel when looking at the box score.

Can they keep lil Tyrese Maxey in check as well as they did in game 5? I say, yes, yes, yes. Bam did an excellent job defending Masked Man.
