    Why does q = qmax for large moments? Also I don't see any consideration for compressive failure for large moments

      Hi, the fact that q= qmax assures that failure does not happen in compression by definition. Please look at the equations of fpmax to see that. The reason why we assume that is actually just an engineering assumption that proved to be accurate by experimentation because otherwise the number of unknowns is bigger than the number of equations and the problem can't be solved. This assumption is considered in the ACI code and you can read it for reference. Thank you for watching.
