- Thanks to Season 2's changes Potemkin's Giganter Kai (aka aegis reflector) is now basically the best super move in guilty gear strive. On top of allowing for even more obscene damage than he usually gets, it lets him get big damage in situations he normally never could, so lets go over a bunch of whats possible now!

***EDIT*** For the sliding giganter technique, you don't actually need to plink. You can hit the buttons at the same time. My original understanding was it had to be plinked but you can just hit em at the same time so its actually much easier lol
So first apologies if I sound off, I lost my voice the other day due to illness and am only starting to get it back. That said hey, season 2! cool stuff right!? So this video explores why I think Pot's Giganter Kai got TURBOCHARGED in S2 and why its so crazy now, on top of some new new combo potential(which im sure isn't optimized so mess around yourself and see what you can find) but also gives him a lot of new options to work with. Make sure to check the visual guide if you haven't already on Potemkin because there I also go into another aspect of it on how it ups his mixup game!

The best part of these new combos is the first heat knuckle, when the camera tilts to show you that you're about to fly back into the reflector.

Potemkin might have got nothing from the new mechanic to cancel normals into dash but being able to cancel the starting frames of specials into supers is insanely good. It helps a lot with his bad matchups like Faust that likes to jump a lot, now you can zip through the screen and catch him with a Heavenly Buster.
Also if you're that kind of guy now you can follow giganter Kai and it goes into HPB, might not be optimal damage but it's optimal emotional damage

Ive comitted to at least at some point I will do updated Potemkin Season 2 combos and tips guide. Might not be immediate cause there's still so much other stuff to cover. Other characters can expect updates as well on that front. I will also do a patch winners/losers as you expect but might be a few more days on that because there's so much to sift through, including crazy things like turns out some people are coming around on the anji changes because while it ripped away a lot of the old him, it sorta built a new version of him, so gotta play around with all that to see how legit it all is. Anyways S2 for the most part looks pretty cool so lots of fun stuff to go over!

Yeah ive played against a couple of Potemkin players today, and its absolutely insane what they can do off this super and with this super.
Kinda blows my mind that the damage after this patch has seemingly only gotten higher despite them “trying(?)” to nerf the damage output of some of the high damage characters.
So typical fighting game balance patch, then.
I've played potemkin as an occasional secondary for a while now but I've never taken him too seriously compared to my main... but this... this is tempting

Just came in to say that I really appreciate the work you do in discussing fighting games, especially when it comes to grappler bois. not enough videos out there going into detail about these big bois.
I am literally the only FGC youtuber of any real size that 1) talks about big characters 2) doesn't outright despise big characters. Which is fine by me, glad to champion the cause and inspire fear in the weak!

I'm not gonna lie, The few nerfs Potemkin got made me nervous at first, but now that we get to try out the newly buffed Giganter Kai, I see now that it more than makes up for them. That super was already good before, thanks to its utility, and now it's made his already high damage even greater!
Plus, if we still want frame one invincibility, we still have Heavenly Pot Buster > PRC for that! :3
5:59 sounds so threatening. Its not just the wording, its the tone, the casual, flippant way they're said. The little edge of excitement in the prior questions, leading up to the threat, said with no remorse.
Some general tips from what the vid touched on for people: You should be able to input 632146 HS and P at the same time for the HFB cancel, no need to buffer HS beforehand. Also, in quite a few situations where you're ending your combo into a hard knockdown from megafist, you can end in Garuda instead for a longer, better knockdown in the corner or more corner carry midscreen.

The potemkin discord was in full doomer mode when they saw the patch notes
For lower level play or players like me who just casually dip into Pot play now and then, losing the invuln on this does feel a little painful. I'm not setting up these kinds of combos or doing super PRC cancels on wakeup, so having those options doesn't feel as impactful to me as losing the Get Off Me button.
As a non-potakin main, this scares me.

I don't understand how anyone can say he's nerfed. Super prc was always his better reversal. New aegis gives him better routes, offense and setups in a ton of situations. I'll gladly welcome the downplay though if it means more buffs :)

I dont play him but I keep hearing people complain that he got nerfed badly and with the red RC's and positve flow bonus i dont think hes that bad
The 5H CH > hammer break Kai is REALLY hard to do on pad with the default layout.
I switch to claw and I can probably get it by plinking HS P quick for that 7/10 times. But regular pad grip I just came seem to get it :(
Unfortunately Potemkin is basically the only character where its easier to play on stick than pad. Everyone else is pretty even, but potemkin's execution requirements are much more difficult than the rest of the cast for hte most part.
I also use the default layout, so I binded through Steam LB to X (or any button youre not using), so now both LB and X button input P, now I dont have to break my hand trying to input P+HS lmao, hope this do the trick to you aswell
Kevin I thought about this too, but my fight pad is basically totally in use with all the macros, so I need to think about what other options I can manage.
rooflemonger might just have to drill it in training and get used to a quick claw swap on ch 6H, see if I can make it muscle memory.
Having Pot as a secondary, this is NICE. But find me something for my main Anji. Help me reprogram my brain 😭

why did you do c.s > 2s > giganter or c.s > 2h > giganter instead of c.s > 2s > 2H > giganter ?
cause unless you are literally touching the enemy you don't get the initial hit of the giganter any more and lose a lot of damage

Hi rooflemonger , first i have to say your channel is the best and for fighting and i'am french but i still whatch yours. I hope you can help me. I personnally buy the game to play Potemkin i like grablers in fighting game. And i think the game is awesome but i play with a controller and really the kara are just impossible. I try to put the kick button on R1 as some guy told me but it's not better and it changes all my reflex from years of play. I love the character and i really want to play the game but after trying for weeks with no résultats i just stop playing the game. I left it for month now. If i can't do at l'est the kara buster consistantly i can play the "guess game" with Potemkin witch is the core of all grabler gameplay. I know that i am far from the onlyone with this problem with Potemkin, I have seen so much post about that everywhere. I play street 5, kof,fighterz etc... have no problem with my controller. Even with old er games like kof um or marvel vs capcom 2. I really want to enjoy guilty gear i know you can't do miracles but i thought that maybe you can think of something. The problem comes from the buttons to press not from the motion. Excuse me for all the english mistake, hope you can help me. Thanks for this amazing channel .
Unfortunately some of the kara stuff for Potemkin is just harder on pad. That said the kara techinque is not essential although its nice to have. If you have to try it on pad id do it on close to the default setting where kick is on X and punch is on Square, that way you can take your thumb and go from kick~punch with the ball of your thumb first and then the tip of your thumb second. It is one of the few things though that is just easier on arcade stick or mixbox though sadly since you are using the tips of your fingers.

Is Potemkin a machine or something? Because where are those cylinders coming from all over his body? I mean there's nowhere for them to be stored unless he's some type of machine.
Great now I’m going to have 3S PTSD from these move even more know. Like hearing “Aegis Reflector” makes me shudder. Seeing moves like it is just bad.
You forget the setups for HPB. A lot of these things you showed keep your opponent in the air in the perfect spot to get grabbed. A 2 meter Potemkin is the most dangerous thing in the game.

This is a little misleading. It's not true that you can confirm from things u got nothing from before. Ch 5HS u could always rc combo off the hammerfall rc and ch 2S goes into HFB, Kara pb.
Don't get me wrong, it's a nice buff since it's more damage and more options. But it's not as big a buff as this vid makes it seem.
max distance CH stuff like that was very difficult and not particularly practical, only when you are closer. This does way more damage and is easier
@@rooflemonger The old routes were way easier though. Ch 5HS xx hammerfall RC 2S xx 2HS xx 623HS is so much easier than a giganter route that requires Kara cancel super. I would like to reiterate that the new routes are definitely a buff as they give u more options, damage , and carry and they are not too hard at all with a little practice. I am simply disputing the idea that this buff suddenly gives him conversions off of things he couldn't previously convert to anything substantial.
