for people with straight hair dreads: I waited two weeks after I started my locks to wash for the first time and they look great. The only issue ive had is that the blunted tips on some locks came loose but thats a fairly easy fix.

I recomend washing your locks if your using crochet hook and if it is properly done no worries you can still wash your hair without undoying your locks but if your hair texture is as same as that of Gunther then yes . That's my experience with my own dread journey.
Exactly. I'm 9.5 months in, my locs are crochet hooked, I wash my hair as often as 7 days in a row, swim, shower.. My locs been getting wet since day one, crochet hook is such a reliable technique for tight locs that mature well, have never had to worry about them coming undone. I have really tight coiled African hair (Cameroon).
Wash your hair once a month the day before getting it retwisted. Trust me it works.

All I do is go to the shop, and they untwist it, wash it, and twist it back for me
See I washed mine a few days after starting and they stayed in, mine are rip and twist mixed with backcombing then a few weeks later I crocheted them to maintain and tidy. They are nice and locked, but I did use dish soap to wash them the first few times so they would lock faster
I did twist and rip with crochet and I took a shower in like 6 hours

Ok so guys this is for people who want to know more about straight hair dreadlocks or instant this is the comment u wanna look at, when you get your dreadlocks make sure everyday u do maintenance on them and make them loc faster, whilst doing this dont water your hair withing id say a safe amount of a month, instant dreadlocks are really weird, the straighter the hair the longer the time, its gunna feel long but stick to it, i had dreads and i cut them to get a full head set, so take my advice?
This aint true, i got 3c hair type and i just twisted my hair 2 days ago. I washed them today and they didnt fall out and become curls, they just got a little bit hard.

I can't imagine how locks can come out from washing them? Maybe it's possible but still can't imagine it. Two years ago when I was making them, I spent more than a month to complete and during this month I was washing my hair every week. Some of the locks were braided the same day before washing, and nothing happened to them.
You can use leave in dry shampoo. It comes in a spray bottle if you are afraid of your dreads coming out. "Charcoal lime" is a good one
Great Locs if you see this hit me with some advice. So I started my dreads about 3 weeks ago, and they are already budding and locking up pretty good. The ends are still looking like curls but the middle sections and roots are pretty locked. I have soft hair btw also I haven't washed them since I got them started, I was going to keep getting my retwist done for about a month before having my loctition wash and retwist my hair. What do you think, should I go for the month one wash and retwist or just get the retwists done until month two?

I've had mine in 4 months now. I did Rip n Twist but I do crawlspace work and for some reason dirt and dust is really good to start dreads. When I came out of a job my hair was sectioned out so I rip and twisted and washed em after. They still in here

Before I started dreading my hair I didn't wash my hair for about two years with nothing but water.... Your hair will stop producing all the extra oils and honestly it's the best that my hair ever looked and felt. I've had my dreads for about 3 years and still never have washed my hair.....i have yet to have a person ever say that it stinks or seems dirty. I just try to keep them clean and ive worked on fishing boats and shipyard and ive done construction and roofing and all kinds of shit work just being careful. It really shows how nasty some people are having to wash their hair all the time. Shit I even get complements on mine all of the time and people ask how I keep them clean and what I put in them to take care of them. When I say just water and maybe some salt from time to time it blows their minds.

make sure you note his hair type before you take his *advice* if you are type 4a/b/c watch other videos this aint for us. we never twist 4c hair while dry, it'll thin out at the twist. And you can wash type 4 hair the week you get it done because our hair type will stay locked
