  • In this video I will show you how to replace the rear speakers in a 3 door Audi A3 8L with Pioneer TS-G1723I's.
    This video may also be suitable for similar Mk4 Golf's and Seat Leon's.
    There are a few tricks/hacks in this video too if you have issues with the trim holders falling off and how to make budget speaker mounts.

    Thanks for this upload, couldn't find anything for this model around... hope the sound difference between the stock and the pioneers is worth the effort

    those pioneer speakers seem to be 17cm but the stock audi ones are supposedly 16.5cm, does that mean any 17cm speakers would fit? i myself am looking into some 17cm pioneer speakers as well the pioneer g1730f

    Thank you so much for this tutorial!
    Questions:
    • Did you see by any chance if it's possible to fit a 6x9" speaker in these panels?
    • And about the size/space limitations, did you ran into any trouble there?
    • From what I researched, the front door speakers must be "small" to not block the window mechanisms, correct?
    • In these back panels, the space is big enough?

      @CarAndMechanical  Před 7 lety

      Hrmmm good question, I think you could but some fab work might be needed.
      I have another A3 atm that's being stripped and the door cars are out - I'll try work out the backspacing this weekend or tomorrow if I get a chance. Please chase me if I forget!

    • @rhobson
      @rhobson Před 7 lety

      That would be amazing!
      Thank you so much!
      So, if one want to avoid major troubles and adaptations, it's better to stick within the original speaker sizes, i guess.
      Well, one more thing for the shopping list, I guess... :D

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 7 lety

      If you went one step beyond the pioneer's I fitted - worth baring in mind at the time I was on a budget so got the best lower-mid range speakers and are driving them with a good amp it'll work nicely. I'm happy enough with the pioneers but they lack low end bass - when I do the sub build I'll HPF out the bass.

    • @rhobson
      @rhobson Před 7 lety

      So, any luck checking the backspace for the rear-panel speakers? :)
      I just took off the driver-side door speaker, there isn't anything left of the original surrounds of the speakers! :O
      By surround, i mean that little rubber-like part that connects the cone to the frame, you know? Yeah, that part. It was gone. No wonder the sound was so bad.. :D

    Thanks for the video. I have an audi A3 8L. My rear speakers stopped working. I think my amp has died. I have bought an after market HU. Can I connect rear speakers with new wiring direct to the HU?
    I know the sound won't be great. Will get a new amp and subwoofer later and speakers

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 3 lety

      Most HU have 4 outputs for speakers so you should be able to run new cables worst case and be fine as the stock amp is a pain to try and use.

  • @VailedFool333
    @VailedFool333 Před 6 lety

    Hi would you say the rear speakers are worth upgrading? I found the sound in the back is pretty good already with stock speakers, fronts were awful and I replaced them with a composite set but I don't know if it's worth to change the ones in the back. Thanks for the videos btw, really useful and well done.

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 6 lety

      I had issues with the stock stereo tbh and I did hack the rears a bit when I changed head units but I feel like these were better. I think there is only so far paper speakers can be pushed and my bass demands and music tastes mean I needed more.
      For the £20 or so I paid it was worth it for me.

  • @sagar2700
    @sagar2700 Před 7 lety +3

    My Audi A3 doesn't even have speakers in the back. I opened the side, and there were no speakers nor cables for installing new speakers. Can you make a video showing us how to make new cables to the rear speakers? Im sure it'll help many people :)

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 7 lety

      If you check one uploaded after this it shows how I ran the power and RCA cable to my amp - similarly run the speaker cable down the back of the HU, through the centre console, under the carpet and then stick each door card in.
      Most speakers come with the terminals already sorted for you and hopefully eh wiring has enough length.

  • @DereksDontRun
    @DereksDontRun Před 5 lety

    Hi mate, the wires you ran from the amp to the speakers, did you have to splice on white and black wires that came in the box? Is did you just solder them straight to the speaker? Cheers.

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 5 lety +1

      Right having to jog my memory - on stock you've need to splice and shrink wrap - I actually fitted a separate amp and somewhere have a video covering all of that.

    • @DereksDontRun
      @DereksDontRun Před 5 lety

      @@CarAndMechanical hi mate cheers for replying. Was also wondering if you fitted your own ignition live and spliced that yo the head unit? Or did you just plug it on to the power and front speaker plugs? Cheers again mate

      Ir solo en el subwoofer. Tiré de la mía porque no funcionó muy bien con un estéreo del mercado de accesorios.
      Terminé ajustando mi propio amplificador para alimentar los altavoces.
      Si miras a través de algunos de mis otros videos creo que cubrí cómo he conectado todo. / Go stand alone on the subwoofer. I pulled mine because it didn't work very well with an aftermarket stereo.
      I ended up fitting my own amp to power the speakers.
      If you look through some of my other videos I think I cover how I wired everything.

      Creo que es un supermercado allí - sí o cualquier tienda en general. Esto era barato / cosas de repuesto que tenía en mi armario de piezas. Básicamente he utilizado silicona, ya que es bueno en el sellado y también para detener las dos superficies vibrando entre sí. / I think that's a Supermarket over there - yes or any general shop. This was cheap/spare stuff I had in my parts cupboard. I basically used silicone as it is good at sealing and also to stop the two surfaces vibrating against each other.

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 6 lety

      Afraid I couldn't say without know the options but easy way to test is use the fader to the rear and/or see if you can hear sound coming from where the speakers should be.

      CarAndMechanical I've tried that with a pioneer radio and it gave no sound to the rear but I've read that for aftermarket ones you may need some adapter for rear to work. But I guess I dont have rear ones

    • @CarAndMechanical
      @CarAndMechanical  Před 6 lety

      Sorry was late last night when I rear that - you need a harness adaptor and they vary depending on bose or not.
      The Audi rear speaker sets up use a sub and amp that is separate from the head unit to power the amp and rear speakers, you can not just give it a remote signal as you also need to do some fancy grounding.
      On your typical stereo harness you have 2 plugs, these one Audi are almost the same but only output the front speaker sound, it's the 3rd one that powers the rear and passes the signal (that's at a different volume level) to the rears.
      I can't tell you which harness you need but they are £10-20 on ebay and it's really worth double and triple checking with the seller/forums to see which one you need.

      +WOG TOWN (ASSASSIN) how many pins/wires in your plug? On this install I actually ran a new amp due to Audi's silly remote amp system.
      You could just cut and crimp on new connectors to match the new speakers.

      Try the following: unplug the minus cable of your battery, then check the yellow plugs on the seat belts both sides (front seat belts, plug is down at the pressure capsule) they both need to be connected. Then plug the minus cable to your battery...
      If the airbag light is still on, you need a obd plug and software...
