Thank you for this candid, heartfelt video. You WW are the best. Wow, I have not done a thru hike but some endurance runs and cycling. It’s so cathartic, therapeutic and hiking is one of the best ways to clear the mind & fill the soul.❤ I too had suffered loss and grief these past years including MY mother who was also in memory care during Covid. Gosh, 😢 many emotions when Annette spoke of her mother. I have gone down the road of regret and resentments etc, but we have to let it go and I am constantly doing the inner work, seeking joy , being present. Have a wonderful hike in AZ!! I look forward to seeing the beauty!

I'm in Ohio now and take time to hike alone or with My Husband. I love it. Now, I am looking forward to my AT thru hike in 2024. Spending some time with Myself, really, for the first time, ever. The timing was right for me to watch this video. The closest friend I've had in life passed away yesterday. We raised hell and had so much fun back in the day when we both lived in the beautiful mountain town of Fairplay. Grief is tough; I have very little family or friends - so it's quite the experience. Being out in nature and hiking have been the best mental and physical health therapies for me. Still going with my hiking boots that are being held together with duct tape; luckily I have pairs of Altra and Hoka trail running shoes (purchased with gift certificates, so grateful!) that I use on days of better weather and trail conditions. I'm very much looking forward to your AZT hike!!

Boomer Warrior 17 - there are friends out there you just haven’t met yet. Waiting to offer support when the time comes for you to be able to receive Hugs. You are in my thoughts and prayers. - and so is your friend that you recently lost. My women friends are facing this reality head on as a group prior to our actual time of loss. We are trying to remain in celebration mode as friends for 50 years. But we are acutely aware that future loss is just around the corner. Until those new friends show up to get you those healing hugs you could use - hug yourself. And know there is a sufficient amount of unappropriated love floating out there for you to help get you through this rough patch. Lastly, trust that your friend is waiting to reunite and willing to welcome you into the next phase when the time comes. Everything is going to be ok in the end. If it’s not ok, it’s not the end.

Gals, This was an excellent video and awesome advice. My bother taught me from as early as I can remember, that every moment & action is a choice of what you do with it. If that makes sense?
You can live to die or you can choose to live until you die. Live life to the fullest not just everyday but every hour. Break it down and enjoy it not just get through it. Be in it and aware of the choice to find the good in all things. It is hard, but I have discovered over the many many years, I can find the good in even bad situations. It is a choice to mope or float!
You hit on the main thing of choosing to be positive. Get the tough stuff out, work through it and let it go.
I am 65 years old and for myself I can only control what I can control. I let go of what I have not possibly of changing. It is extremely freeing for you mentally, spiritually and physically. Worry & stress can make you physically ill to the point of death. Don’t let it. Enjoy life.
Go WW! You guys are my inspiration!

Not to oversimplify, when I notice my mood going south on the trail, I immediately stop, eat and drink. Usually that's all it takes to get me smiling again. Thanks for a wonderful video filled with Warrior Wisdom!....
A later thought: my worst moments on trail happen when I feel like I'm being left behind...if my hiking partners are moving faster and don't wait. It's a feeling of abandonment, I guess. I have to stay focused and consciously let it go, and remember that there are days when I am the stronger hiker and times when I prefer being alone!

Being locked into expectations is a real downer for a thru hike. You definitely have to be flexible and make changes to your hike as you need. I definitely found that I don’t like to be out for more than a month at a time hiking solo. Then I need a break and a chance to see family. Also setting smaller goals of reaching a certain spot even if that is only for the next 2 hours.

I’ve researched and tried so many things including short socks, compression socks, lighter shoes, cooler clothes, more hydration, antihistamines etc etc. I’m 74 and want to do so much more, but can’t figure this out. "Being in the moment" - that seems to be the hard thing for most to accept and enjoy - but doing what you ladies are doing - that kind of forces you to slow down and appreciate every moment that comes your way. "Appreciate the little things" - 100% agree - life is so easy to zoom by if we aren't all careful - the self reflection would & could be beneficial to many - "the opportunity to grow" - true words!
Wishing you ladies all the luck in your future endeavors! Thank you for always being upfront, even with the cons of certain endeavors!

Some mornings are super cold , rainy (here in the PNW) or hot in the summer, we embrace the weather and get out there despite conditions we may not like. Coping skills are key- and not making excuses to avoid days that aren’t ideal. Love watching your vlogs! You two are very inspirational!

Great video! Do you ever walk for a few miles and realize you don't even remember where you were and what you saw? Your head is occupied with who knows what and you're just moving along. I guess that's a bit of dissociation, yikes! But it happens, especially when i'm walking home from work (about 6 miles). The first 1/2 mile I'm stewing or chewing on something from work, and then it seems to suddenly be gone. Then I'm seeing what's around me, noticing things, enjoying walking. By the time I get home I'm not tired any more, and feel refreshed.
I think my most important mental/emotional tool out backpacking is a sense of humor. In the scariest, worst, most unpleasant situations - there is nothing like a bout of hysterical laughter. I think I saw that in some of your videos where you all cracked up uncontrollably! Going uphill the last part of every day? It's so cathartic to just laugh it off. I like hiking with good friends for that sense of humor. It's harder by myself, but it happens there too. My friends and I were hiking up Muir Pass, and a young lady came the other way and when we greeted her she said "this is bullshit!" She was having a hard day, poor gal. Later we used her phrase repeatedly ( out of her hearing of course!) whenever things got though, and we'd just roar with laughter!

I go on day hikes and sometimes overnight hikes on occasion by myself. However, a thru hike you need a companion that you can get along with. I would be interested in thru hiking AZT, southern part of the PCT or the Zion Traverse. However, i would not do it by myself. There are a lot of risks when you do a thru hike by yourself. May be I am not experienced enough? For thru hikes, what is your total pack weight?
