For today's GGQ, I decided to explore the controversial elimination of Valentina. At first, I was just gonna be discussing MaskGate, but as I was putting together information for the video, It kept getting longer & longer, until I ended up with a video that's over 20 minutes long. - That being said, I think it's actually a pretty entertaining video. Derrick invokes Stonewall, and the host calls her bluff and says 'yeah Derrick why don't u tell us what Stonewall was.' Derrick short-circuts and says it was 'Fighting for gay rights...ppl were killed...' and Willam cuts her off. "No one was killed at Stonewall.' Derrick kinda trails off, and the interview continues. It's all in good fun though, and Derrick has since developed a sense of humor.
The Reunion was filmed less than 24 hrs after the Finale, but aired first, so Shea Couleé and Trinity the Tuck had already lost the Competition, the Crown was between Sasha Velour and Peppermint - as such, Shea Couleé and Trinity had nothing to lose by speaking their mind

Fun fact: The red m&ms thing comes from the band Van Halen. Back in the the David Lee Roth days they used a lot of pyrotechnics and after a few scares. They started to put that they wanted only brown m&ms as part of their rider to make sure that the promoters were paying attention to their list of requests and needs at every venue.

@@julianuribe9734 it was a joke sure but Michelle understands the negative impact jokes like that can have. Not trying to argue or disagree with you just shedding some light on why. The whole "skinny is what you want to be" messaging even as a joke can be harmful and with plus-size queens/people being a significant part of the community it wouldn't hurt to be more thoughtful with her words even when joking. She can be proud of her beauty without bringing weight into it :) Valentina has also mentioned she's struggled with eating disorders in the past so focusing on how skinny she is is also harmful in that sense.

Even though I do enjoy seeing Valentina perform and just the way she caries herself is fabulous like a star, my gut tells me she did it on purpose. If you think about it, this performance is one of the most memorable performances from the show!
Should've known they'd put her against Nina tho with their friendship. They'll put a front runner in the bottom JUST for story line so you have to be forced to send your friend home.
Actually, the producers wanted Valentina to go. Before the lypsinc, the producers changed the song and tell Valentina 10 minutes before the lypsinc(they told Nina the song had changed 3 days before)

Valentina said that for all stars 4 she was not in it to win it. She just wanted the exposure and Rudemption, and you can tell. After her challenge win and slaying the Ariana Grande's lipsync she was not really competing, she was living her telenovela fantasy

I initially loved Valentina because i found out she grew up in Bell, CA..we were basically neighbors! Learning more about her, i really did see myself represented through her. As a first gen Mexican/American, Her performance style, her pop culture/fashion references, all resonate with me living a bi cultural experience. Needless to say, I’m really proud of her accomplishments and the fact that she is killing it out there in the world, representing our humble little corner of south east Los Angeles.
If you watch the Werq the World documentaries Valentina is DEFINITELY one of the top divas, along with Violet Chachki. Both of them were so late they were banned from performing one time. It was super dramatic.
Imagine Alyssa & Valentina in an America Vs. The World. I would pay to watch that.

To be honest, she was one of the first "fashion" queens that I actually liked and loved a lot. She did not feel like a rehash of old stuff, felt quite original, much like Pearl.

I remember showing my straight guy friend (who has never seen RPDR) the first episode of season 9 and he instantly fell in love with Valentina. He was rooting for her until she was eliminated and was pretty sad after it. I think it shows the charisma of Val and how spectacular she is that even straight guys that know nothing of queer culture and drag in general fall for her and get interested in the show:)

I believe you should teach a Master class on how to cover so much information and synthesize it in a way that's easily digestible. I graduated from film school and focused on documentary work but I don't have that refined level of organization you do in pairing topics. I'm straight guy and started watching drag Race from season 9 . (Before that, I don't have a any idea about this show , who was a rupaul and no any information about Drag Queens... I swear.) I'm really obsessed with Valentina , I'm not following anyone only her and I'm always checking regularly what's she's doing what's a story she posted. She is so unique I don't know there is something special about her. She's very unique and likable .

Honestly Valentines initial elimination plus the fact she didn’t win all stars (with a admittedly emotional ending) has completely cemented her as a drag race legend and of course the ultimate fan favourite, I truly think if she had won season 9 (in the hypothetical scenario where she removed the mask and did know her words) or all stars she wouldn’t be as loved as she is.
I think a issue with more newer seasons is they’ll excuse queens lack of ability in challenges or lip syncs to either drive story lines or because they believe they’ll be fan favourites, when in reality all this does is hurt their credibility which is completely not in their control and causes them a lot of hate. The producers honestly just need to realise all the fans want is for the competition to be that, a fair competition. Sure we love drama so some behind the scenes tinkering is fine, but not to the degree it’s became.

Thankyou for pointing out the bit about some people putting things in their rider to check if the contract is read. I think it is very possible that the red M&Ms was just that, and the promoter/bar didn't understand the significance of missing the red M&Ms. Just thinking she was being a diva.
I've worked at venues where the talent appreciated even having the staff say "We noticed the request, but we unfortunately weren't able to get it." 9 times out of 10 they'll say something like "I'm just glad you read it."
Valentina is one of my favorite RPDR queens
ANY rehearsal, it doesn't matter what, you NEVER sing off key. you can't say that she was singing off key cause it's just rehearsal. well, at least not actual singing performers. you sing off key, you are asked to redo it. not giving a performance your all doesn't mean being off key, just like doing a dance rehearsal walkthrough doesn't mean you do the moves off tempo.

I wasn't watching the show yet, when this was going down in real time. So at 8:00, I was worried you were gonna say Valentina was mad at Shea for bringing it up in such detail. It's actually pretty sweet to see that Valentina was instead grateful for the clarification & closure. Sounds like she disassociated hard, in that moment.
Disassociation (and the memory loss from it) is a totally believable thing to happen to someone in that situation and I'm surprised people thought she would be lying??? It's neuro-response to situations stressful enough to cause trauma. She got chewed out by one of her idols for the world to see. I've experienced it, but never on that level, that's for sure.
Ik people like to be all tough love about people choosing to stand in the tv limelight to be a star; but we can still have compassion for when people make mistakes; especially with such a large audience.

There's a really cool story about a drag queen named Regina Bronx from a Mexican drag reality show competition, she had a very similar makeup style to Valentina and after this queen had been bullied for forever, she made a post posing next to Valentina showing that there's no rivalry and instead a lot of admiration and mutual support between them, and Valentina even had a hand at making Regina's runway for the show's finale and it was iconic
Unfortunately there's been really serious allegations against Regina but that's another story
@Arturo Ortega they go hand in hand with the allegations against gvajardo, she was helping her be inappropriate towards drunk people at bars, gvajardo has faced no consequences because of the lack of evidence and still has a relationship with the show's producers and the bar that the girlies frequent the most, but Regina has seemingly disappeared off the face of the earth
(there's ALSO been allegations against the bar (Rico) for being easily fooled into participating in a hate crime thinking they were helping a victim🤦♂️🤦♂️)
