Mercury 25hp tiller Stator replacement and troubleshooting no spark.
Every told me with this engine that Switch box (ECM) was bad. Well I did a little trouble shooting and found the Stator was bad. Please take a look at the video and it show how to check this. Also please forgive the home made tool for pulling the flywheel I used what tools I had in hand to do the job. So I know it was not proper tool but it worked.

Use proper puller make sure the three bolts bottom out so you have full thread engagement. Put center bolt back in 3/4 of the way to protect crankshaft. Give a couple of burps on impact wrench and that’s the way to do it correctly

Most likely damaged trigger with bolt puller, pronounced staytor

Thanks Buddy, I have got a 2001 with a no spark, gotta do the same thing this week. I'm not getting a reading at all from the trigger either, do ya think the trigger and stator went bad at the same time? Not much on these outboards, never messed with them any, I'm a helicopter mech not a outboard mech! Thanks for the video!

Are checking the stator or trigger? My issue was no reading parts on the stator. The trigger if I remember correctly you have the engine spinning to get a reading but if will only be a second. If you multimeter that will hold a reading that should work. I'm a recip Mech with a a&p & IA not a outboard Mech myself.
I just live by the water and boat dealers around me will a sell a new engine fast the try to fix one for someone.

@@txoutdoors2037 It was the stator on mine. Since I was into it, I changed both and kept the old trigger as a backup. Good luck!!

I got mine from eBay. But. I did see some on Amazon but eBay was cheaper in price.

Do not even think about using that triggered over unless you want to be stuck in the middle of the bay

I wouldn’t pay $800 for an engine that looks like that I got one in Bella shape for 600
