yes his right hand was burned by his friends vision
yes I was in fact, blind while watching the cutscene from his quest
EDIT: WAIT BUT IT WAS BANDAGED BEFORE I'M NOT JUST CRAZY czcams.com/video/_qTNkcy_7Y4/video.html
(I think this is part of the reason why I never noticed it)
probably just an inconsistency error though lol
Yes, it is an error. In 0:27 of his trailer (video you linked), we get a slight glimpse of his fingers being bandaged and at 1:35, when he's grabbing the vision, only his wrist is bandaged (thank you for the correction below) Regardless, I like the concept of his fingers being burnt by his friend's vision leading him to bandage them.
@@Guest-lr3eu i rewatched it and at 1:35 it seems only his wrist is bandaged
before he snatch the vision of his friend the only bondage is his wrist but after that you can see ingame that his whole arm and fingers are now bondage because of the burn.
wait i thought his friend's vision burning was just a metaphor about his burning passion or something
@@pigeoncatangel Yes, correct. My apologies that I mentioned the entire hand rather than the wrist. What I meant was that his fingers weren't bandaged in the later cutscene, that's all.
I also want to point out the colors in kazuha's hair, red and white, aka 紅白(kouhaku) in japanese, has a really important meaning in the japanese culture.
This color scheme is used in various places, ex. the japanese flag, and has an auspicious meaning to it.
It is also used to divide two teams, which is why you often see red team and white team in sport festival episodes in anime.
This custom can be traced back to the heian period where two samurai clans, the taira family which used the red flag, and the minamoto family which used the white flag, were fighting over dominance of Japan.
With the team stuff you were taking about, it made me think that his hair having both white and red may indicate that he is not on a particular team, or that he is on both teams. He is a wanderer with no nation, but he wants to right the wrongs of his home.
@@Canditan I think he leans more towards he is on neither team, and is on his own.
Wikipedia Also says it means happy and sad events in life
There's also the Kohaku Uta Gassen, or Red and White Singing Competition that is held in Japan every year
The amount of effort by Mihoyo and Flaim is just incredible. I doubt many of us genshin fans would have noticed these small details, it really puts into perspective the amount of detail and work put into character design. Good job on the video!
That's a lot of designs in general.
Yes
Yeah the design team put a lot of efforts into creating Kazuha, and then there are some players out there call him "cAnAdiAn aEther". Welp, joke or not. I think its not funny anymore🤧
@@ThuyNguyen-hg2qj ye tbh kazuha looks more cooler than aether in my opinion
Yeah. I'm also glad this guy exists. Cuz in this community there are too much nimrods who call every new char boring
I love how he only wears his "overcoat" on one side and just tucks the other side with his belt..
I read this in his voice lmao 💀
id love to see him wear his haori with both sleeves on
Reminds me of Gintoki from Gintama
I think that's a ronin thing. Samurai who have no master sometimes wear only one sleeve to show disgrace. Not 100% certain but I remember reading something like that way back when googling Auron from FFX
@@VivaLaReverend The disgrace aspect is actually a myth. Most samurai would keep their arms out of their sleeves for various reasons (i.e. practical things such as conserving body heat in winter), but I think it's mainly for comfort. There's that iconic photo of a samurai with his arms tucked into his kimono, with both of his sleeves dangling on either side. I don't remember what period it was from, but I think a quick google search would bring it up.
WHAT ARE THOSE?!!

Honestly It's always nice to see the Breakdown of Character designs. You really see the amount of research MiHoYo put into their designs.
Especially on the minor details that connect to the whole. Showing that they really dig deep.
To everyone complaining about Kazuha's long name, go make research before criticising it
Actually annoying when people who don't understand things yell about the things they dont understand
I honestly i don't understand how it's a big of a deal, like is kazuha's long name the reason why you got two stars on abyss? 💀
@@voltaicangelo Some of them dont even have Kazuha but they still complaint. "Its unfair, why the Mondstadt people doesnt have their full name too then" when they know nothing why Mihoyo does it🗿
It's aesthetically shit, and I don't give a fuck about its cultural significance. This is a game; not real life. There's your criticism after research.
@@Apinanoob im sorry but saying this after knowing the cultural significance behind it is just disrespectful. Yes, genshin is a video game but things such as the names and clothes of certain characters are inspired by real life cultures and customs which are important to the people from these so ignoring important cultural aspects for the sake of insignificant things like aesthetics is really wrong.
he's born in october as well , continuing that fall / autumn theme!
I was gonna be shocked if his birthday wasn't in autumn.
His birthday is 6 days after mine :0
Eey nioce
im australia hes born in spring and im born in autumn, but its opposite in northern hemisphere lol 💀
Yeah! Kazuha's birthday is on October 29th, so it does show up in the season of Autumn! ^_^ So awesome that he was born in the season of Autumn! :D
Fun fact: those Japanese maple leaves taste really good, kinda sour kinda sweet with a little bit of bitterness.
Don’t ask me how I know
Wait, we can eat it?
@@rinezly of course
@@pewpewpew1834 oh my god:0
now i really wanna go eat leaves-
So now we're talking about eating Kaede, I thought hanging and crushed by a piano was enough
Fun fact: his special plunge (Midare Ranzan) before it was officially localized was called "Ranran Haishin" and his burst was called "Manyo no ittou"
His burst name did not change, it was just translated to english i believe. But the english translation took it too literally, which is why it sounds kind of awkward haha
Imo manyou no ittou sounds more badass than kazuha slash
@@AmenoHoshizora true even though it literally means the same thing
@@ww-wr4vi yeah but kazuha slash is just... I know that it's hard to translate it without it being unnecessarily long but in this case using Japanese romanization re much better imo
Japanese know how to make everything sound and feel beautiful
I also like to think that Kazuha Slash was his personal technique that he taught himself and not some skill that was passed down through the Kaedehara clan, since he wasn’t formally taught.
I love how much detail and thought are put into the characters in this game. I hope to be a character design and concept artist and I’m going to school for it in two years or so, so studying the elaborate designs in this game has been so good for me:)
woahhh, good luck!!
Elaborate designs are everywhere so I'd look into other stuff. While I personally don't think it's that good, League of Legends' designs are a pretty good place to get a grasp of character design.
mihoyo puts so much effort into everything from the characters to the regions to the lore and i absolutely love it. it immerses you more into the game and sometimes we dont even notice these little details immediately because theyre so small. it makes you love the game more and it shows that mhy didnt just put two things together randomly like they took their time and did their research for everything
I imagine the translation team is struggling between keeping the "anime feel" by leaving some romanized terms and fully translating for the purpose of western understanding. They know they can't please everybody D=
I am certainly surprised by how you managed to match the few combat animations from Kazuha with a specific sword-wielding style. You've certainly done some exhaustive research for this one.
Also, upon closer inspection, It's come to my attention that the symbol utilized for his sheath animation is strikingly similar to the one utilized to represent the Electro element in the game. Fitting, given that Inazuma is the region of the Electro Archon.
Yeah some people play games for lore other for gunplay and sometimes just to play just for fun and not necessarily "being the best."
i like to think that Kazuha took off part of his haori so he can move his dominant arm better when wielding his sword
I don't know if anyone has pointed this out but, Kazuha's C6 might mean that Kazuha goes from being passive to aggressive, since blood red probably means the blood of his opponents while maple leaves can pertain to Kazuha himself. The effect of C6 backs this up, since it turns Kazuha into a DPS from a support in the game
I watched something regarding Kazuha’s bandaged hand. When he took his friend’s vision as he died it burned his hand.
(Sorry I’m not good at explaining)
Yeah
No that was a metaphor I believe- or some sort of speech. It didn’t actually burn but the passion of his friend burned brightly which was what he was referring to :)) cause I’m the cut scene he already has the bandages on before his friend passed away so yeah :))
@@kaleb7000 He had bandages on his wrist but not his fingers, i don’t think it was a metaphor i think it just burned the part of his hand that wasn’t already bandaged
As a Kazuha main who sometimes just stands and stares at him and his idles I pick up on a lot of details about his design but this video has made me appreciate him even more... if that was even possible.
And I really looked at this boy and thought: wow, his design is kinda simple, I think I can draw him no problem.
I'm a simple Kazuha simp, I click.
Me too
As a Chinese, I can read and understand these Japanese written in Chinese characters (kanji system in Japanese), and actually the Chinese version in translation is just the same. But I am not familiar with Japanese culture. Thank you for your great explanation.
If you dig deeper, his design is based off of a specific poem of the Manyoushuu!
The poems name is 黄葉を、散らまく惜しみ手折り来て (Momichiba wo, chiramaku oshimi teori kite) and the Momichiba wo, chiramaku oshimi part literally being one of his elemental burst voice lines. It translates into "It would be a shame, if the maple leaves would fall (off the tree).
I love "kazuha slash" so much because it sounds so ridiculous
I don’t get why people think it sounds ridiculous.
If you think that the 'kazuha' in 'kazhua slash' is his name rather then an awkward translation, then it gets ridiculous imo
@@moonjustinwoohyun8796 even if it was Kazuha's name, it does not sound ridiculous to me. Y'all must be imagining a little kid screaming the names of attacks when performing said attack.
it would be cute if he just yelled
haaaaahhhh
"Kazuha slash!!!"
>:D
>w
Excuse sounds like a move from anime
I always love when you upload, anyone can tell you've put alot of effort and researched a lot for them and watching them is always nice so thank you
I don't think people realize just how much love and care is put into every character's design and gameplay, I love seeing all the details on each character!
genshin impact is the definition of cultural representation
Before his final Normal attack, how he sheath's his sword and the sound design for that is soo good man
hhhhhhhhhhhhh yes i'm always using his base attack because it just scratches my brain jUst rigHt
I feel the amount of effort and passion Mihoyo puts into each character, gets it's purpose when people like you take the time to show every last details to everyone. I totally love watching these detailed designs and learning them from you.
4:28 the vision his grabbed when fleeing inazuma was so passionate it burnt his hand
if you check the trailer he lungs for the vision with this hand and at the time he had no bandages
I remember thinking that he has bandages there because he accidentally hurt himself while training new swordsmanship style
The explanation with vision makes much more sense
I love this concept! I think that it would be cool if you made more videos just analyzing the different character desgins of genshin impact characters, they all have lots of little details to match their characters. I know you mentioned that these videos were most difficult to make (presumably because you have to research a specific country's cultural outfits), however even if you just mentioned small things I think it would be cool! Example: In Albedo's character design, it incorporates lots of chains. There are chains in his namecard, chains on the back of his coat, and metal cuff like things on his arms. It could probably relate to his lore in some way. Just my suggestion though!
i love these Videos but they make me think that we were kinda robbed with the mondstadt designs- only venti looks vaguely inspired by german traditional clothes. for everyone else they just went full fantasy clothing.
Venti's design is heavily tied to his lore/other forms
If you look closely, the placemet of cecilia is the same as the 2-leaf on his wind wisp form.
Then the gem on his neck > spiked oval shape on the wisp' body
Hanging on his vision are 3 feathers which either represent his wisp form 3 wings or the (more tragic) eagle feathers he never had a chance of giving nameless bard.
Fun fact: cecilia is more likely based on daylily instead of lily. And daylily is "fake" lily since it's not on lilium family (like "true" lilies)
Ps: yes I'm a venti simp, how can you tell?
@@elizabethvein4328 true that, i dont mean the Designs are bad, i know they have a lot of thought behind them but i think they could've made them look more like they actually belong to the place🤔 like for liyue and inazuma you can immediately tell what culture they belong to but with mondstadt characters they just look like characters from some isekai anime haha
At least we got Corsets 😔
@@ezriquinn6706 well it's something 💀
I think that, despite the name, Mondstadt is not just Germany, instead being a bit of a mix of various European nations, and typical fantasy. I mean, you've got characters like Jean or Noelle, whose names (and parts of design, in the latter's case) are undeniably French.
Still, I guess it's kinda understandable. Mondstadt is kinda the "tutorial area", and it's hard not to notice that it's a bit more "generic" than Liyue and Inazuma. I imagine we'll get some more Europe-inspired "cultural" designs once we get to Fontaine.
Hey red flaim! Could you maybe do some research about qiqi's character design and her story? Im not too familiar with old chinese stories but some of my friends tell me the translations from Chinese to English on her story leave alot of misunderstandings!
Honestly, the most I can say about Qiqi is that she was definitely inspired by Jiangshi, but that’s about it. A full video analysis would be interesting. 🤔
What if yanfei based off of and does she relate Yae?
@@xdsmile5359 yanfei is part 'xiezhi' (獬豸) which is a mythical creature found in various east asian legends; it's an ox/goat-like being with thick dark fur, bright eyes, and a single horn coming out from its forehead. the xiezhi is regarded as a symbol of justice as it has great intellect and can tell right from wrong, plus it will punish corrupt officials which is why yanfei herself is a legal adviser
@@hyyh2015 what's based on Fatui and Shenazaya?
@@gachromvisimu4437 (this is gonna be very long ahaha)
snheznaya as far as we know means 'snowy' in russian and is inspired by said country and more likely named after the river of the same name located in siberia; its climate is probably similar to dragonspine but way worse, childe mentions that one can literally freeze to death in snheznaya's cold if they stop moving outside for a few moments; this in turn may be a reference to yakutia/sakha, a republic in russia that has such a climate wherein you can die of the cold by just standing outside for a few minutes; in chinese snheznaya is called 'zhidong' (至冬) meaning 'everwinter' (as in 'everwinter without mercy') and is an anagram of 'dongzhi' (冬至) meaning winter solsitce
morepesok, childe's hometown means 'sea-sand' and as such is a seaside town; personally it makes me think of vladivostok which is a port city in the eastern part of russia nearest to both china and n. korea
the fatui (latin for fools) harbingers are based off of stock characters from the 'commedia dell'arte' which was an early form of professional theatre originating from italy; these characters are portayed with masks (although there are exceptions) which emphasizes the aesthetic aspect of anti-humanism which is a theme present in many scenarios in the commedia (since these characters are meant to mock the typical figures you encounter in much of society, like the fatui donning masks and in turn mock the world and life itself, as well as handling operations covertly and having the facade of a benevolent group in broad daylight made evident from their public relationship with the knights of favonius)
since we only know a few of the harbingers who already appeared in person i'll just talk about them for the meantime, plus this contains a lot of spoilers so read with caution
tartaglia means 'stutterer', he is a stuttering statesman wearing a large hat and coat along with a pair of oversized boots, his social status varies depending on the portrayal, sometimes he is of high society, in others he is of lower or middle class
ajax 'childe' [young lord or 'gongzi' (公子) in the original chinese] meanwhile poses as a toy salesman to his little brother teucer as a way to mask his fatui activity, his main reason for being in liyue was to be in charge of the funding for the fatui stationed there, and has official art of him donning a large fur trimmed winter coat which connects to the original stock character
la signora means 'the lady', she is a beautiful, tough, and shrewd woman who is the wife of pantalone and mistress to pedrolino, she also dresses excessively and wears heavy makeup, and is also known by the name 'rosaura'; la signora is the female counterpart to il capitano
rosalyne 'the fair lady' on the other hand pretty much resembles the original stock character; later revealed to be the crimson witch of flames, she was a gifted apprentice at sumeru academia who studied pyro magic and posed as diplomat to inazuma well before she got deleted off of existence by the raiden shogun
scaramouche (scaramuccia) means 'little skirmisher', he is sly and conceited, almost a starscream type of character; he has villainous tendencies and entertains the audience with a grimacing face and affected language
kunikuzushi 'the balladeer' also bears resemblance, and made more clear after we know of his actions as childe revealed to us in the labyrinth warriors event (he ran off with the gnosis after yae gave it to him in exchange for the traveler's life while they passed out in the delusion factory, presumably he just upped and left without so much as reporting back to the tsaritsa or the other harbingers and has subsequently gone rogue), he is not shown to wear a mask, which rings true to the stock character who is portrayed wearing without one
il dottore 'the doctor' also known as 'dottor balan' or 'balanzone' is a pompous know-it-all type of character meant to mock society's intellectuals; he claims to be an expert in many subjects but actually has no idea of what he's talking about and tends to just speak nonsense; he is a womanizer though unfaithful, and also a glutton who is particularly fond of chocolate; in scenarios he is an obstacle towards the innamorati who are a pair of lovers, and a foil to pantalone
dottore 'the wise doctor' so far has appeared in the manga and is sparsely mentioned in the game (the most during childe's story quest), a diplomat to mondstadt, he is shown to be quite ruthless, conducting dangerous and inhumane experiments as evidenced by using collei as a test subject for the fatui's archon residue experiments
that's only much i can tell for now, i'm still curious about the rest of the harbingers, especially pierro and pulcinella
I really like how his main color is red despite being anemo, the maple leaf explanation helped a lot thx! 😊
Someone might have already made this comment, but I just wanted to mention that the reason why Kazuha (or other Inazuma samurai characters) don't have a sheath for their sword is mostly because... they don't need it.
The weapons in Genshin literally vanishes when they put it away; and this isn't just a gameplay thing, it's actually a part of the way the world works. There's even a convo between the Traveler and Paimon in their voicelines where Paimon is super impressed by it; and we have also seen it happening in a number of cutscenes, like in Diluc's story cutscene and Eula's story cutscene, where they actually use this trick to make their fighting more efficient.
A sheath is used to protect the sword when it is not in use, so the fact that they can basically will the sword in and out of existence means that a sheath would be basically useless. But in that case, why would there be a 'sheathing' animation? My guess is that it is just the samurai fans in the development team that wanted to keep that in, making the act itself seem more like a ritual than actually keeping the sword. Heck, since this weapon-summoning trick seems to only be limited to Vision holders, it's likely that sheaths actually do exist in the world of Teyvat, but are only used by non-Vision holders. I won't be surprised if non-Vision-holding characters, like NPCs or even samurai-styled enemies, will use sheaths for their swords.
Thank you for pointing this out
the extra brainrot is much appreciated
sheaths for swords are mentioned in the archive description of at least one weapon (Lion's Roar), makes sense that 'ordinary folk' would still need them
6:24 I assume Mihoyo learned that the swords would clip with the sheath from Honkai Impact; when they gave Yae Sakura katana sword sheath only for the sword to be longer and clip through.
At first i thought that maple monogatari is a reference to maple story, an rpg very popular in the east.
this video is honestly so amazing! thank you for breaking down all the details in kazuha's design and build, it really makes me appreciate him more, just seeing all the small detail's genshin's team put into him
This is incredibly insightful and well-researched analysis! I love Kaedehara Kazuha’s design. I wasn’t sure i liked the seemingly tacked on shoulder guard and the fact that he isn’t carrying a sword sheath (typical for samurais) but you do have a point with regards to those. Such a funny thing that many associate him with Canada when maples are ubiquitous in Japan.
Yeah! I always hated when fans would refer to him as being Canadian! >_< He's not Canadian, and if anything he would be considered to be Japanese/Asian, especially since Inazuma is based off of ancient Japan! :D
As a half-Japanese damn he has researched a lot. Like, A LOT
Everytime these videos show up in my feed I click only to find out its not out for 6 -72hrs then I just forget about them and never watch its frustrating and makes me feel like I was clickbaited and the video I was expecting isnt there.
Trees actually have 花言葉 (hanakotoba) too, mainly because of thr natural world's immense presence and symbolic significance in the arts and culture of Japan. 楓 (Kaede) symbolizes 美しい変化and 大事な思いで- "beautiful change" and "precious memory. I think that fits so well with his character+moves, as well as Inazuma as a culture akin to Japan.
On the subject of Translations...
I know you said to respect the Translators but for a while we've been havig issues with how the English team has translated the game.
Complaints include Xiao being more of a EMO teen in English where it was different in Chinese.
Lines like "Mr. Albedo" when Klee talks about Albedo even though he's technically her stepbrother who REALLY take care of her.
Childe where people thought he would have quit his job as a harbinger if he could and travel with us but it turns out in Chinese, he actually meant that he would take a break and adventure with us. Not quit his job.
Also Childe where he says he doesn't want to work with the weak in English.
In Chinese he actually says that he doesn't want to INVOLVE the weak if he can.
Yeah, English has been the Ire of some players...
yeah, I probably should have clarified because I don't have a problem with some of that stuff
but when people complained about "Kazuha Slash" it just kinda bothered me since they didn't even have full context of the situation
No one is perfect and the fact the translators have a 6 week period to translation tons of stuff coming in update it can be...not easy and some stuff will not be correct or accurate but if most of the things are then it's fine, small translation errors isn't the end of the world
@@firdaus3603 yea I agree, I’m guessing most of the translators are Chinese translating it to English, or someone who is native to English translating Chinese from English. It can be very hard to make it completely accurate
@@kazezeze also it isn't only translating EN...it's JP,KR,FRENCH ETC...trying to make those other languages accurate is gonna be a challenge as well

SO WELL DONE AS ALWAYS THANK YOU REDFLAIM
I love this video! Thank you, thank you! ^^
AMAZING video! Absolutely my fav character so far, so fun to play and look at. All I need now is Hu Tao with him
His haori covering the left arm is a reference to the kesa, a type of monk's robe.
His short hakama can also be called "kobakama" which are simply short hakama that were worn by warriors to allow free movement.
The ties on the backs of his hands obviously resemble traditional Japanese gauntlets that covered the back of the hand but not to the fingertips, since samurai were originally archers and needed their full dexterity (most fiction leans on the romanticism of swords over the horse riding and archery of earlier samurai so there's probably not much to this one except it adds a samurai look)
Another vaguely archery-related thing with the armor is that medieval armor would sometimes have more protection on the left shoulder, for survivability against archers while leaving the right arm more free to move.
Beautiful. I love the attention to detail both mihoyo and you put into all this. Inazuma definitely is my favorite zone and probly will be for the rest of the games lifespan.
Exactly 10months since this video was released, and why did I only just found out about this video?! I'm really very impressed that RedFlaim, you took so much efforts to research all of these! Like your video !!! Very informative and easy to understand. Good job keep it up. Hope to see more Genshin videos from you.
Nice analysis! Also wanted to add to the discussion that Kazuha's kimono reminded me of shrine maidens bc red+white
Great video :) thanks for all the effort u put into researching this. I’m impressed at the sheer detail and all the cultural references mihoyo managed to include. I was originally a bit nervous about whether the future nations and characters were going to receive as much care and attention as Liyue, since Mondstadt felt rather bland and low effort in comparison. Knowing that other cultures that are often underrepresented and misunderstood were going to be referenced in other nations, if mihoyo was careless and decided to cut cost and effort just because it wasn’t a culture they understood, it would definitely dredge up a whole wave of drama. Seeing all the effort they put into Kazuha tho, my worry is slightly eased. Excited for the future content as always :>

Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu: origin is quite complicated as there are many roots in their ancestry(i.e muso jindo ryu, muso shinden ryu) but it is meant to be a school of the teachings of swordsmanship delivered by the gods; there are manyother old styles with that kind of name also. (muso = in the dreams)(jikiden = straightly delivered)(eishin = the name of the headmaster hasegawa chikaranosuke eishin)
From an amateur translator, thank you so much for the ending note 🙏👏
I have a big Japanese maple in my backyard:D
may i eat the leaves
for context: someone in the comments said they tasted good
4:33 might also be because his friend’s vision burnt his hand when he escaped with it. you can see it glow and light up in the cutscene
I am an artist and I live for these design analysis. I am also a storyteller at heart so I would love character analysis
Yesss love these kinds of videos 🥰🥰🥰
One Cool thing I noticed is that his ascension material sea ganoderma fits him perfectly because ganoderma mushrooms are known to grow near the bases of maple trees. I really enjoyed the video. Amazing analysis.
This video is just 👌✨ I hope one day you'll make about ayaka 😭
These vids are treasures
I love how extensively researched his design elements are
That’s it, now I wanna learn Japanese because my brain can’t stand knowing I’m missing out on meanings of stuff
His bandage arm could be also the fact that he wouldn't let go of his friend vision that was literally burning, so he probably burned himself as well
I think the bandage on his main hand because of his friend's vision. It burst into flames when it was in his hands.
If you see the story cut scene when he was holding the vision, his hands didn't had bandages
Great video
I love this character so much, i can't stop playing him, now im always full of hilichurl horn loll and never enough monster to slay, need bigger map xD
