Alex's association with the club stretches back over 45 years. Joining in 1978, he became one of the game’s first modern-day black goalkeepers. Forced to hang up the gloves due to a back injury at 25, he was soon an integral force behind the Club’s official charity, City in the Community. Williams reflects on his early years following the Club and the impact that CITC has had on young people in Manchester and beyond.

Saw alex in heaton mersey (where he lives) nice humble guy one of the best games i saw him play was 1982 at white hart lane spurs .he played out of his skin and was amazing that day we won 2.1 and graham baker got both city goals on his debut.but alex saved almost everything that spurs threw at him that day great days under john bond and we even had trevor francis playing for us which was amazing back then he just won the european cup at notts forest and signed for city ...exciting times 1982💙
