Just picked up a new receiver for my family room and thought I would show it off. Love the old vintage look of these receivers and they were built to last!!
I bought a Sx636 in 1975 when I was 15. I rode my bike to the HiFi store and made $10-20 lay-a-way payments on it for 3 months. I think I paid $260 for it new. I still have it and it works perfectly driving a pair of Vintage Lattice front Sansui spks.
I still have the SX-636 that I bought more than 30 years ago and it works great. I have other receivers with all the bells and whistles that you would expect today but none look as good as this stereo.
I dig all Kilpsch speakers. I dig the new receiver too Steve. Anytime you can pick up a vintage receiver for a nice price you should not have to think to do so. You went looking for vinyl and you came home with a nice receiver. I would say that is a fair trade indeed. Thanks for giving us a look. It looks really nice after the cleaning. Rob/Boston
Thanks for all the help in the struggle for me to find a vintage receiver. It does sound amazing!!! Better than the newer system.............the jury is still out :)
congratulations very good pickup a beautifull piece of technologys of 70´s in good shape, well i liked very much and is a just example of be in right time and rigth place
Looks super Steve, you scored a beauty! Nice job cleaning it up, the Pioneer is a beautiful match for the Technics, I'm sure it sounds amazing! Congratulations and enjoy. P.s., you can admit it sounds better than the newer system......I won't tell ;-) - Lj
I like Klipsch too but they just don'd sound as good as my Bowers & Wilkins. Not really a fair though because the Klipsch I have are very entry level. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on the great find. I just recently bought a vintage Pioneer receiver on ebay. You have a great setup and I love your record cabinets. Where did you buy them?
Hey great video, I also own this stereo reciever that was handed down to me by my father and it has been one of my most cherished possesions. I have been having issues with the right side speaker outputs for both A and B sets. I have a pair of Vandersteen 1a speakers hooked up which are in mint condition, but for some reason I keep getting static interefence through the right speaker even when no other devices (turntable, tape player, AUX input) are even plugged into the receiver. Please let me know if you have any suggestions to fix this issue i've been having. Thanks so much!
Did you get the lights fixed ? COULD you get them fixed if not ? I want something like this and understand some lights may be blown but are they replaceable ?
This was my very first receiver purchased while stationed in Thailand in 1974. It was paired with a BSR turntable, Sonics AS-305 speakers and a Kenwood cassette deck. The turntable didn't survive the shipment home to the states, which led to the purchase of a BIC 940 turntable.
I'm 62 and bought a Pioneer SX636 when I was 17. Have it in my living room driving a pair of Bose 301 speakers. Sounds perfect 45 years later.
I purchased mine in 74 when I was 21. In all these years I only had to replace the fuse in the back, and that was probably in the 70's or 80's.

Just picked one of these up at a yard sale, for 5$. powers up, not sure if it works yet.
How do you like it now that you've lived with it for a while? I have a chance to get one for a pretty good deal.
Vintage Pioneer receivers are my favorite! How much did you pay for this one?
