From engineering standpoint, it`s a really awesome thing they carried a lot of old parts from the previous model and their parts bin. Great recipe for good reliability, aka, potential.
I really do like the car. So glad Nissan is updating the Z! I do like the trunk lip but from images, I think I prefer no wing like the proto simply bc of the badging. I think the reason for the sunk in wheels is to make the cars legal but it's nothing a set of spacers can't fix. I honestly love how the 370z interior is mostly carried over. I agree, the 370z's interior had a really good layout. It just got really old since it hasn't been updated since 2009. My only thing with the interior is the piano black steering wheel controls. From my limited experience, it gets dusty so quickly and it's so easy to scratch. Since it's a high touch area, Nissan probably already thought it through and took measures to help alleviate that
I agree I would have to see it in person but I think the smooth lines off the back look better without the wing. I'd love that Fairlady badging though.😉👍
Cadillac is really bad with the glossy interiors. I was in auto detailing and go tell you from very hand experience that it will look great until you drive the car in any capacity. glass loves finger prints
The lip spoiler is only on the 'performance' model and is an optional add-on for the 'sport' model. I personally like it better with out but to each their own. Nissan did an amazing job bringing the concept to life!!
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 225,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
You never mentioned the 6+4 brakes on the proto vs the 4+2 brakes on the production. That's a gtr brake setup on the proto. The reason why the stance is gone was because of negative camber to meet handling regulations. The proto looks like a zero or a slightly positive camber. Hit a corner hard enough and the tires will flex onto the sidewalls. That's not going to be a good thing as the sidewalls are not as reliable than the treads.
I do wish manufacturers would specify what and how/much a given aero accessory performs, cause sometimes they really are mostly just for show. I like this tail either way, though, so I'm not so fussed about it. :)
Good analysis, definitely agree with your recommendations about the wheels / tires / wheel arches. One thing I was hoping they’d do is break up the front grille a little more, basically take your sketch line at 10:38 and paint it in body color to visually divide up the grille real estate a bit. But I guess that’s an easy enough fix with a little touch up paint if it really bothered me. Also, I like the deck lid spoiler as it helps transition the roof line to the car’s rear end IMO (I’ve got that option on my 350Z so I’m biased), but I wish they would have left the door handles alone and gone with the Proto version. The production ones have this weird trim panel around them which just draws too much attention and makes them look tacked on. I see the keyhole is in that panel, but I have to think they could have just added that in the door panel and went with the Proto handles instead. Oh well, overall I’m happy with the new car, well done Nissan 👏
I would totally remove the orange indicator inside the headlight housing as well as the lip spoiler, perhaps a more rounded carbon fiber spoiler would do it more justice but looks amazing without it anyways
I thought the new supra was so Blah. Don’t like that it’s a BMW with slight difference. Also no manual?? No thank you. This new Z with stock 400hp we all know that bump to 500 will be super easy. Manual 6sp. The stying is clean and beautiful. Honestly very excited about this car.

I keep coming back to this car...a year ago I thought it was okay looking, now I think it looks great, especially when you consider what other car manufacturers are coughing up and trying to sell.
The new Z looks nice and I'm starting to see that the design is more of a retro tribute that a totally new design. Only thing for me is that I think the tail lights should be stretched out a bit more. Or at least have the rectangular design stretch out and wrap around the reflectors instead of creating a 4 light design.
I just wish they stopped making their cars with hard plastic. I can understand back in the day with the 350z where practically everything was hard plastic, but for today’s day and age I think they could’ve used some better materials. I can’t wait until the aftermarket does something with the front bumpers too. Other than that I think the cars performance will settle any doubt in people’s mind.
@@ytsux9259 Lol yeah and add a pair of prescription glasses for you that way you can see how Nissan has had the same cheaply built interiors in their cars since the launch of the 350z in 2002. All I'm saying is that you're going to pay 40k for nothing really that new. It's been around for ages. I get everything comes at a cost, but Nissan barely developed anything for the car. They used the 370z chassis (which saves them money), they took the engine from an infinity(saves them money), and used old design language from past Z's. Maybe just maybe they could have used some more money to make a more unique interior. Instead, they made papa smurfs version of a new Z and called it a day.

One thing missed was the rear quarter panel reflector that the Proto did not have, but production car does. I prefer the clean fender without the reflector. Most likely some dumb requirement for road usage, but just a little something that just takes away from the clean lines of the car. I actually liked the darker shade of the grille and would probably plasti dip it to match the rest of the opening as the production grille gives off the look of teeth in a smile or something. Otherwise I think the car is beautiful and has a fantastic retro look with modern touches.
$40k? Good luck getting one at MSRP. Going to be another C8 fiasco. Another thing I've seen nobody talk about at all is the brakes. Proto has aggressive 6 piston fronts/two piece rotors, production has the 370z brake setup. HUGE disadvantage. In my opinion, I think the Nissan Z is a better car because they kept everything in house and didn't reachout to another manufacturer for the drivetrain. They built themselves, and that's what I admire about the Z. Of course it shares the engine from the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport but it's still an engine within the the Nissan-Infiniti group. With that being said, BMW's inline-6 is a sublime engine but for people who are true fans of the Supra I think they would have liked to have seen something original nad a true homage to the original car. Plus you can get the Z in a manual. I just recently learned how to drive manual and it's nice to see manufacturers still making manual transmissions. It may not be as fast as an automatic but it's more impressive that you can actually control the car as opposed to having the car do everything for you.

The reality is the B58TU in the 21+ Supras are highly under rated, often coming in at 400/420+. With a downpipe and a tune the supra already makes 500hp, with ethanol e40+ blends 550 becomes achievable very easily. With a Pure 800 700+ WHP. How do I know? I own a Supra with 8k in engine mods alone. The VR30DDTT barely makes 350 whp at the dyno stock. It will really come down to how much boost the stock internals can take on the Nissan Z. With downpipes and a turbos swap with ethanol you're gonna see 700hp Zs for sure, the question will be how durable is the VR engine in comparison to the B58. B58 is already a long tested platform at this point and perfect for tuners, which most keyboard warriors just don't understand. Not to mention the B58 has many forged internals out of the gate. And was designed with the S58 in mind. Meaning it's build to take a lot of power. Bimmers make better Tuner cars than most "Tuner Cars" decades of racing shows that. It will be very competitive but I'm not switching platforms at this point.
huh? b58tu makes 400+ to the wheel? if it makes that to the crank it matches the Z and for an extra 15k… i could address every single minor discrepancy and make more power than a similarly built supra for still less money and a much better looking car.
this would be a good point if they cost the same, ignoring a 15k premium for a “longer tested platform” is just ignorant. before we even start talking about the manual…
@@Deepwing the 21 Supra makes about 380hp at the wheels which is about 437hp at the crank…stock. That being said I know there is a good amount of aftermarket support for the Q60 but it takes a lot of money to make over 500whp. We will see what happens once the Z hits the streets
@@Deepwing you need to do more research on these cars. 400z is a reskin. Supra has a bespoke sports car architecture and cooperative design of the B58. *Good decision* by Nissan for *not* messing it up in these modern times and calling it "400Z" because the previous generation was called the "370Z"...

First impression for me was impressed but I didn’t like the front end, but seeing the production model the more I look at it the more i like it
The lip spoiler is only on the 'performance' model and is an optional add-on for the 'sport' model. I personally like it better with out but to each their own. Nissan did an amazing job bringing the concept to life!!
I want to put an aftermarket duckfin on it.
A "wing" allows air to go over the top and under the bottom. What is on this car is a 'spoiler'...
I am 50 years old. I found myself battling tears watching this. It really filled me with nostalgia. Thank you Nissan...

This is awesome.
The way they kept the retro design with regulations is impressive. 👏 👏.
Really hard feat
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 225,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
Nice to hear that they are in fact saving the manuals
You never mentioned the 6+4 brakes on the proto vs the 4+2 brakes on the production. That's a gtr brake setup on the proto.
The reason why the stance is gone was because of negative camber to meet handling regulations. The proto looks like a zero or a slightly positive camber. Hit a corner hard enough and the tires will flex onto the sidewalls. That's not going to be a good thing as the sidewalls are not as reliable than the treads.
I've driven that private road in the promo film. It's the Maryhill Loops Road outside of Goldendale, WA.

The new Z in blue with that spoiler look like modern Devil Z from Wangan Midnight, I LOVE IT ❤
The 'wing' is probably needed for high speed stability.
And actually it's not a wing, but it's a spoiler.
I do wish manufacturers would specify what and how/much a given aero accessory performs, cause sometimes they really are mostly just for show. I like this tail either way, though, so I'm not so fussed about it. :)
All that cheap spoiler is gonna do is cause more turbulence behind the car, slowing it down. The car really needs a proper wing.

I like the little wing!
I think the production version actually looks better than the prototype, and that's a rare thing.

As someone who's owned a 240,300, 3 350's and a 370 the '23 Z just doesn't quite do it for me. It doesn't look mean at all. Your '21 Camry TRD looks sportier than this Z >.>
It’s not supposed to look mean. And the Camry like the civic is overly designed ricebox not this or any z for that matter. Less is more.
Regarding the stance, in order to get that low ride height and wheel / body clearance is that the car will strike the bottom and front splitter on speed bumps and inclines without an electric lift mechanism like on C8 corvette

This design is well done. It looks great and has the feel of the original. I like it. Always loved to design since seeing original in the early 1970 era as a kid. I had the Revell model kit of the 240 z in that time frame.
What I can’t understand, someone like you that loves car design , buys a model 3 Tesla, the most uninspiring vehicle design inside and out, especially the inside.

@@Incomudro1963 believe what you want, to everyone that I know, that doesn’t have interest in cars, they all say the interior is cheap and shit, the outside is average at best. Also functional design doesn’t mean going through the screen to turn on basic things, like the wipers.
Agreed. Teslas look "ok" but totally bland and uninspired.. would never get one. Quality im not sure about but seeing the gaps between parts of the body vary wildly is always a fun endeavour when i come across one!
Yes sir!
huh? b58tu makes 400+ to the wheel? if it makes that to the crank it matches the Z and for an extra 15k… i could address every single minor discrepancy and make more power than a similarly built supra for still less money and a much better looking car.
this would be a good point if they cost the same, ignoring a 15k premium for a “longer tested platform” is just ignorant. before we even start talking about the manual…
Manual is just slower and only internet noobs like you actually care. Nobody buys manuals.
