There are few works of automotive design as sensitive to colour, light and angle as the new Ford Puma. A swoopy, wide-stanced urban crossover that sits on an extended Fiesta supermini platform, the Puma takes on the might of the Renault Captur and its ilk. In the right moment it can look truly sleek and lovely, but moments later - and from a minutely different angle - you’ll be reminded of nothing more than the shocked gawp of a freshly clubbed fish.
Divisive styling is no bad thing, though; many people consider the old Nissan Juke (which arguably started this big-selling small SUV class) nothing short of gargoyle-like, yet it’s been a perennial best-seller in the UK.

What about dealing with a flat tyre? No one will care about the mega box when you’re stuck at the side of the road with no way to fix the flat.
In Portugal you can have a small wheel as an option for 100€.

I don't listen to these car journalists,,,there's no such thing as a bad car anymore...no manufacturer can afford to turn out rubbish cars like years ago....its all about whether you like the styling and spec...buy what you like not what these so called experts recommend...ive just bought a hyundai kona premium brand new and its brilliant for me anyway but british journalists weren't keen but American journalists love it...buy what you like end of at the best price you can and you will be happy.
Having sat in one at my local Ford, it's a good little car. I'm 6f4 but there is loads of space in the driver seat. Nothing behind that seat though as its right down and back. In the metal, I think it looks good. Just big enough to not be cute but not over sized. I am waiting for a test drive.
Don't forget the old Puma was based on the "hum drum" Fiesta too. Although the Fiesta back then was cracking to chuck in a corner too

I've currently got a 2019 Ford Fiesta and the similarities of the interior would be an issue although the all digital display is one bonus. It's also definitely a mini SUV as the ride height is not that high. The standard equipment is not great and you need to go up the levels for all the safety stuff you get as standard on some rivals.
Having said this if you effectively want a bigger version of a Fiesta and admittedly quite a nice body shape this might suit you.
So how does it ride? Not everyone cares about sporty handling.

i haven't seen any tests done on actual gravel sandy and rocky terrains

A bargain? Kamiq, Arona, T-Cross, new Captur, 2008, C3 Aircross... they're around 2-3 grand cheaper, so this is actually the most expensive...
For a fully-loaded car 23 grand is a bargain
I currently have a 2018 Fiesta, so i wouldn't mind a bigger SUV version of that.

Simon Ingram the auto gearbox is coming they just won’t say when. The brochure has all the options and some are makes as available on automatic only. I guess it’ll be when the first editions have all sold out.
It looks far better then the new Kuga/Escape, I wish Ford had added more of the visual pizzazz of this Puma to those.

Capri was used twice on two different Fords
Kuga is spelt different but sounds the same as the older one... cougar. They loom nothing alike though. The puma and the 2020 puma actually look very similar just one is a bit bigger...

Has this Ford having a better overall driving experience than Skoda Kamiq? Can anyone assist me in comparing the two assuming they cost the same.
La Dolce Rocca Skoda is bigger for sure. But the Puma handles much better inmho. Have driven both. Kamiq looks very boring and interior is mediocre at best. I like the Puma much better. It also has much more technology included. Best you try both and decide then

I'm looking for a small SUV too tow a Swift Basecamp 4. The Ford dealer was unsure of the towing capacity of the Puma but I'd guess the Nissan Duke would match my needs. Pity though because I usually buy Ford.
£21k -23k too expensive for a pumped up fiesta. Sorry
C S Have you seen the list prices for a Fiesta? You can EASILY stretch over the £20k mark for a half decent Titanium trim.
I totally agree with you, but I think most new cars are incredibly overpriced - obviously you’d have to be stupid to pay RRP, but some idiots will.
Surely that entry level Captur you're referring to isn't comparable in spec. These start at titanium spec so probably more comparable with a higher spec Captur.
as a ford purist nobody cared puma tbh... and oddly I cant tell why but it reminds me first gen cayenne and macan I really like the front hate the rear design ford should make those rear taillights slimmer and more elegant overall I could get one as a daily car I would own 3-5 years and replace. İ think this is what most people thinks when buying this car

In Australia we only got the petrol version, no hybrid, diesel etc. Only automatic as more then 80% here drive automatics. I love my puma, nice car to drive around, full of tech. Review is dry as absolutely every review about the car, from classic puma that no one remembers and have nothing in common to the big box at the back. Price is pretty expensive in Australia, we have basic puma, st line and st line V. From 32.000 to 37.000 Australian dollars.

I really like how they have keept the lines from the original puma and for example the headlight look and then have made it into something That’s popular nowadays.
Even though i think it would probably be better having a new ford puma as a new sports hatchback just as the old one but this small suv is still extremly good looking
Yep, it's not coupe, same as Mitsu Eclipse, same as Ford Mustang as soon as customers will stop buying coupe and start buying SUV, they will decide, which is really sad.

But no AWD variant!?! That's a must for us here in Canada, a version of the EcoSport's system should easily fit as it's based on the Fiesta aswell.
However the Ecosport is based on the previous Fiesta, and for some reason, unlike that fiesta, it drives like crap, and is quite uglier.
I think this car will be Euro-only, but I hope I'm wrong.

Shame about Fords drab interior and dash, it seems they are always 2 steps behind on interior design, they had the old design and stuck with it for ages while others improved and got better and better and when they finally decided to redo the interior of their cars it looks boring compared to everyone elses and again they decided to put it in nearly all their new cars lol
also sorry I am sick of crappy screens not facing the driver but facing flat..back of the car
all screens and satnavs should be tilted more to the driver which is what most are doing now...unlike ford
Crazy that this has won car of year and already it's got a recall and halt of sales due to airbag issues. Ridiculous, The skoda kamiq is better in the small class suv.

This cars exterior is as dull as ditchwater, looking at it makes you feel 75 and sleepy. It's not bad, it's just ordinary, especially when compared to its competitors. It's interior is even duller, I really wanted to like It and was trying to convince myself until I sat in it. It's awful, I've seen the inside of an empty box that had more flair and charisma. Look at the interior of the Nissan Juke, Tekna plus for comparison, I know which car I'd rather sit in for 15,000 miles a year.
Cant' believe you Europeans don't let go of manual transmissions. Automatic transmission are not more reliable and more fuel efficient than manual transmissions.

Skoda Kamiq is better, its plusher and much more space front and rear but puma boot is bigger. Can't believe this won what car of the year.
I would say they're pretty similar cars to be honest, price is similar, performance is similar (petrol), it's down to preference. I prefer the look of the Puma and its sound, and it has better deals on a lease, so it wins for me.

This lools much better and sportier than both of then. So sportier brings the lower roof ect. And its not much bigger
tiago silva Have a look at the Ssangyong Tivoli it has far more room all round but especially in the back and also fully loaded with spec it has a 4x4 mode and cost cheaper than this entry model.
Titanium isn't with us no more. So it's a useless test.
