  • How easy is TIG welding copper? Well, we thought the same question. Cory and myself ordered a copper kit from weld metals online to test our TIG skills. Watch this video for start up to finish. You will see the good and bad in one shot

    I weld copper cable leads wich has to pass x-rays.
    I use Lazer Helium gas and DC on the torch. Works like a charm.

    Hey Chris, just finally watched again...I think I just did a preview before and never went through whole video, I keep loads of videos up to watch , but sometimes the wife gets on computer, it is hers anyway, and loses my windows that are up....anyway..copper is sure a different material to weld......I had to shoot a video of welding copper a few months ago, but do not remember if I had seen your whole video before hand????? I am old and forget easy.......anyway, I used 1/16. 1/8, and 1/4 inch material, with ER CU deoxidized filler, and also a Romex ground wire [electric wire] and some pure copper 3/32 from some custom screen., wish I had also used some Silicon Bronze filler too...the ER Cu tended to have a dross floating on the top and did not flow that well, the Romex wire was great as was the screen material. pure copper sure flows better......we also did mixes of Ar, Ar/He, and He.....what a difference the He adds to the mix.....you may want to check it out here......best wishes, I rally enjoy your videos, Paul form down in Orlando Florida......Bravo...czcams.com/video/EKEi2MwLDFQ/video.html

    Fronius has a rental program? I would like to try one of their welders before I buy one from a different vendor. There doesn't seem to be any local shops that carry their products where I live.

    Really informative - THANKS! So just to be sure, was that final pulse on DC negative? I'm going to do some small artwork with 20 oz copper sheet, so the pulse will really help not burn through (hopefully).

    On AC you sacrifice penetration with the RP phase of the AC current not to mention it looks like your balance setting is way too much reverse polarity cooking your tungsten.

  • @scrapmanindustries
    @scrapmanindustries Před 3 lety

    I didn't realize the magic wave had High freq. and AC. I might have to start saving up for one. The transpocket and trans steel I got are pretty sweet. I can only imagine what the magic wave could get me into. How many input kilowatts would that thing need?

    • @chris_b_liven
      @chris_b_liven  Před 3 lety

      Are you using it off a generator? It’s around 10,500 watts needed

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries Před 3 lety

      @@chris_b_liven yes. well some of the time. I got set up with a somewhat small but functional shop now that actually has electric. I kinda forget about that sometimes. but most of the time it will probably be run off a small 6800/8500 watt generator or a Lincoln vantage. Id probably honestly just set it up for Tig and keep it in the shop though. the transsteel does pretty much everything I need mig for. I've been practicing some tig with just clamping it to the stick stinger. it would be sweet to get set up with the fronius tig torch and high freq.

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries Před 3 lety +1

      @@chris_b_liven the transsteel runs pretty well on the 6800/8500 watt generator but it does start to shut off once you start getting up to around 460 inches per minute wire feed running .035 steel and 90/10 gas.

    • @chris_b_liven
      @chris_b_liven  Před 3 lety

      @@scrapmanindustries Did you try a heavier extension cord ? Also, it could be reaching the max of the generator once your in the settings for .035 hard wire

    • @scrapmanindustries
      @scrapmanindustries Před 3 lety

      @@chris_b_liven yes. I think it was surging or dropping volts. It runs really sweet on most everything. I really like these fronius machines. just once I start trying to do some heavy spray welding it kinda kicks off (the fronius can only spit out another 5 more inches per minute in the range I'm talking about) just running around 365 inches per minute is totally fine. I think I may be out growing the generator I got now. I'll be saving up for the magic wave after seeing your video and probably getting a vantage at the same time.
      the consumables on the transsteel outlast my Lincoln 210mp consumables at least 4 times over. and I really don't even like using the 210mp any more.
      The only real problem I had with the transsteel so far is it melted a male dinse connector inside the female and pretty much welded the two together. after an hour of pulling and prying we got it free then just ran a drill bit through the female end on the machine to widen it up and tossed out the male end. works fine now. ran over 400 lbs of wire through it in like 6 months.
