- Okay, hold on to your hats because I didn't mean to run this video as long as it went, it just kind of happened. But the quest for the best Darth Vader, whether it be from Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, or Rogue One, has been going on for a while. I wouldn't have guessed it would be Hasbro and The Black Series to come in a take the crown! For now...

Yes, the cloth over the armor look was in both Rogue One and A New Hope. So this figure is accurate to that look.

The old one depresses me, just from that dog pound stare. Just want to adopt it from the kennel and give it something to eat!
My go-to until now has been my custom Walgreens Emperor's Revenge exclusive Vader with the helmet, chain and boots repainted, plus a custom lightsaber from eBay. It virtually parallels this new one IMO (and cost very little) but would love to compare in person. Glad Hasbro got it together without collectors fiddling around!

Picked one up yesterday at Target as well. I repainted my Walgreens Vader helmet all black and absolutely love it. Will have to compare the two now lol
Just got mine in today. Wow. He's impressive....most impressive. I have the Mafex version, which is great, but not thick enough. This Black Series one is phenomenal. No issues with paint on mine.
My God, this thing looks absolutely gorgeous. Do we know when it releases in the more typical BS packaging?
I'm ging to guess fall or winter. They'll want to get all of the 40th stuff through first while the timing is hot.
Pshh..who would want it in another packaging form? This is the best card back ever lol. But I know, you want things uniform..so I completely get it.
My only problem with the figure is the cloth goods. I wish it were plastic (beside the cape.

Got this for 10 bucks at Ross, I tell you when I found this I was excited... to say the least.
Like the repainted Black Series Vader for the regular red box release - more silver highlights on head, neck and nose than this 40th Anniversary release. Looks incredible now! Nice review!!
Yeah the control box buttons and cloth over the shoulders match Rogue One/A New Hope. I just finished the Bandai Vader and painted the buttons to match Revenge of the Sith, where the cloth goes under the shoulder armour. It's all over the place lol.
Yeah, it's hard to pick a definitive Vader when the movies don't even pick a definitive version, heh.
It touches but doesn't trail. It's just as long as the figure is tall.
Oh Hasbro. Always improving, and evolving.
It may take a couple of tries but yup, onward and upward is way better than the alternative.

Wow im really digging that Vader you got there Foosh. Love it. Its years ahead of the BS version with looks and sculpt. When his armored samurai cyborg styled suit was made his billowing cape I read is created from a flexible alloy that helps to reflects laser fire, projectile's, dust, spores etc much like his armor and cybernetically enhanced body parts, internals. He can also survive in space if he needs to. Also how can ya not love a big cybernectic samurai looking Sithlord in action figure form :) a must buy for me :)

Well done Hasbro on fixing the sad walrus. One detail overlooked on Vader figs is the glossy black pattern they used on the face panels in the movies. I appreciate that the mafex figure takes that into consideration.
I've seen people comment on the silver or shine on different parts of Vader's face but mine isn't too crazy with it.

Got this Vader today and was blown away! I wasn't expecting the definitive, end all competitors, 6" Vader, but I think we finally have him! (at least the new hope version anyway). The eye lenses look much more relistic in person than they did in the photographs. Brilliant headscupt! Thank you Hasbro for finally correcting that turd of a Vader that was initially released!

Cool review. I prefer the cloth material because it looks better for filming. I got myself a kylo ren yesterday but was bummed to find out the cape's plastic.

I just got mine today and I love it and it's a hell of a lot better than their first Vader release.
THE Definitive 6in Figure of the most feared DARK LORD OF THE SITH. The sculpt on the helmet is EXACTLY accurate to the original ANH look and the body and articulation is just heaven. A solution I found to the cape is that I popped off the helmet head from the body and just tucked front edges of the cape into the neck line and popped the head back in to hold it to give it that v-stream look he has when he puts the cape over his shoulders and it just looks epic. 40 years later and we got ourselves the perfect AHN Darth Vader figure....Now if they can do TESB and ROTJ with the same head sculpt but with the glossy black and accurate chest piece and armor....
Damn you Beardy! I was perfectly happy with my Mafex Vader and when I saw this review I wanted a “companion” Vader to play around in my desk or ok the computer... and this figure os wonderful; well made cloth goods, sculpt and the fact it is $20 makes it easier to actually play with without worrying about my $60 Mafex’s cape or ankles. Simply wonderful and looks great with Mafex Boba Fett too

Just got mine yesterday from Force Friday 2, and honestly, I can't stop gushing about this figure. This figure is so damn amazing. My only gripe would be that the legs on mine are slightly loose :( but oh well, this figure is just damn near perfect.
The Elite Series Vader has got to be my favourite still, but I'm certainly tempted by the Dark Side here.
Didn't expect it to be this good.... Now Mafex Rogue One Vader looks to be the best, but that's just promo pics, and with Mafex we could and should expect the final product not to look THAT good, and with TBS we practically get what were shown in the promo pics and sometimes even better! As Kylo Ren said "I know what I must do. I don't know if I'm strong enough to do it."
I'm still going to end up with the new MAFEX because...Star Wars haha....but it's going to be hard to beat this one.

I have the #43 single card one and he’s awesome. I only wish the cape would have been a little less bulky and the right hand was in the force choke pose instead of the left.

I'm so glad I have this pre-ordered. I am going to wait on the red/black box version to get another, but given how long it's taken to nail the 6 inch Vader, this seems $40 worth.
I just got my model kit to make my Empire Vader, because I need both versions, but this is absolutely stunning.

He has the cloth over his shoulders at the end of Rogue One in that hallways scene. You can notice it more after the Tantive IV escapes and he's standing on the platform

I'd like to see the Early Bird set box comparisons.
The under robe does indeed go over the chest armour in ANH. They have done this for Rouge One as well in keeping it true to ANH, but his cape seems to cover over this a fair bit. Apparently they changed this for better movement in ESB and ROTJ.
Notice there are no chest box lights in Rouge One to look like Vader from ANH.
This Vader does looks cool.
I honestly don't when or if we will get these 40th here in Australia, so I modded my ESB Bandai to be a ANH Vader.
Yeah, that feeds into the whole "Vader has different armors for different occasions/holidays/days of the week" thing. Like underwear.
I honestly think they changed it based on how the stunt guy who did the fight scenes with Hamil found movement restricted with the under robe over the chest armour. As a member of the 501st, I've dressed a few Vaders over the last few years and none of them wanted to do an ANH Vader because of the under robe. Even the ROTS Vader is under the chest armour.
Glad you got the review up so quick, I was waiting for it! I'm still pissed about the false alarm on Brickseek since I really wanted to get this, even if I'm essentially spending twice as much for a stand but this Vader is damned good. As for the Obi-Wan in the pics at the end, that's a rickhor robe right?
Yup, Rickhor robe on an SWBS EPIII Obi-Wan body and custom head. I still haven't opened my SWBS old Ben, heh. And I got nervous when I finally made it to Target, when I scanned the UPC I had on my phone it showed none in the stockroom so I freaked. It took about 20 minutes for the workers to hunt the case down. Sweating bullets!

But I have to get this, I only have the Elite series Vader which is nice to look at, and moves decently, but I LOVE & am loyal to Black series SIX INCH. haven't check out you tube in a while, like always great review thanks R!

cant wait to get this to go with the Old Ben i scored at Kmart last night....these Black Series guys are getting better and better i tell you....cant wait to see your thoughts on Ben once you get to that review....hes great.......once of the best released so far that i have....it looks like this one may trump Ben though as much as i love it...
The eyes in the the first batch of these has the eyes with more of a red tint. This one is a slightly newer batch and has a little bit more brown eyes. I heard that the legs and ankles are a little tighter on the red eye versions which is better.
That comparison did it, I'm cancelling my Rogue One Mafex Vader preorder and getting this. Good job, Hasbro.
I have this one and honestly the Figure is pretty badass
Looks great, going out to look for this tomorrow. There are plenty of Targets within range of me, and many of them say they have them in-stock, although I went to two today and couldn't find any on the shelves, so now that I have the DPCI, I'll have to ask the employees if they have it.
One thing you touched on but didn't go into detail on is that they painted specific areas on the helmet gunmetal and other areas glos black similar to how they did it in ANH; Michel Noyez-Vermont details it further and provides an illustration in the comments section of the The Fwoosh article review for the figure.
Also, just checked some footage from Rogue One on CZcams, and at least in the final Vader killing spree scene, he has the tunic over his shoulder armor like in ANH.
Sweet, on the shoulder tunic, just as it should be. And I looked at the article before shooting my review but I don't notice a lot of gunmetal or silver on mine, if any at all.
I got mine yesterday, too. IMO It's the best 6" Vader. PERFECT! It looks like your cape may have slid back a bit under the helmet. If you tilt the helmet back a bit you should be able to shift that cape forward.
I was wondering about that. I saw some pics later of the cape looking more forward, I'll have to mess with it when I get the chance.

I don't think we got the vinyl cape, I think I remember the cloth, but my Ewok Village didn't come with the fire pit decal. I specifically remember that because some ass told my little brother we didn't get it because he was bad. I don't miss being a kid, most of the time, haha.

Really impressed with this figure, one of the best Hasbro has put out, and one of the best Vaders, I can see why you like it over model kit, it doesn't look as shine or plasticity ether (suppose a bit of paint would dull it.)

No, I never paid much attention to the Revos because of how stylized they were. But now I'm kind of interested because of the Amazing Yamaguchi Marvel figures, they could fit there. But I wouldn't put them with my Star Wars display. And yeah, that new MAFEX needs to rock!

Excelent review, i also think and hope they will release eventually this figure in the red box, i only collect the 3.75, but this will be an exception, they really did a great job with Darth Vader and you are right, the head is excelent, they finally got it XD

Finally! This figure is amazing!
I was perfectly happy with my Mafex Vader 1st version, then I saw this review and watched a couple more and realized I need this Vader. Dam you Fwoosh............................. but luckily I just found this Legacy set for $25 at my local vintage toy shop, so it didn't cost me a piece of my soul.
The tunic was over the armor in A New Hope and Rogue One. I remember when I saw Rogue One in theaters I specifically looked out for that.😂
It was just at the first of ANH though, right? Later it was under. Jeez, it's been a while.
The Fwoosh it was over the armor throughout the whole movie. It didn’t go under until TESB. Also is there any way to get a crease out of the fabric on the legs? On my figure it’s kind of noticeable. It’s up at the top of his leg right below the belt.
Ugh I'm so jealous, I ordered mine a while back and it comes in on the 15th. I guess it pays to wait. Can't wait to have my own.

What an improvement on the original! On thing though, is the codpiece sculpted off at a weird angle? it was off centre.
IT does angle down to his right slightly, seems like it doesn't want to straighten out.

Fwoosh, Saw your review yesterday and happen to get the last one at the local ToysRus... But on man this one cost a lot in Canada. $80 bux.... but it is really good... never had the last 6" but this is the one.....
With this one you don't even need to think about the first one. Never. Never ever.
I really want this figure. but the pre order price in europe is around 60 dollars. the extra display does not justify that price. So I wait for the mafex Vader.
