  • In this video Skee demonstrates the Taiji 24 form (otherwise known as the Beijing 24 Yang-style). This is the most widely recognized of all Taijiquan forms and is usually the one that you see people doing at the park or in massive crowds in China.
*The video has been flipped so you can mirror what he's doing*
The 24 form was first introduced in 1956 through the Chinese Sports Committee and was intended as a 'form for the masses'. It is a truncated version of the 108 form but features many of its most important postures and is intended as an introduction to Taijiquan for beginners.
The form has come under a great deal of attack over the years (especially by Taiji purists) who regard it as an empty shell - all form with no spirit. One reason is the posture 'single whip' is performed on both sides while usually should be only performed on one.
Whatever the case the Yang-style 24 is a beautiful, concise form and a transcendent, universal language with can be enjoyed by people of all cultures, religions and backgrounds.
Both front and rear views are shown for those who want to follow along.
