That night I picked the Thunder to win the series on the basis of "Dirk just played basically perfect and the Mavs barely won, no way he'll keep doing that." And then Dirk kept doing that.
It was really the most amazing stretch of basketball I've ever seen especially since it ended in a championship
I'd put this Mavericks team playoff run against just about any other that ever won. Sounds crazy, but it's not that they were the best, or didn't have holes in their game, or even played the best every night, it's just sometimes the competition just runs into a team that won't quit and finds ways to win no matter what you do. Maybe why Jordan still swears at Bird after all these years as Bird was the kind of player that sometimes you just couldn't win against him.
EDIT: Kudos though to OKC the way they stayed in the game is almost as impressive as Dirk's legendary performance.
93.9% TS - NBA Record
The best title run ever to me, and yes, I'm a Dallas Mavericks fan.
RIP Ibaka
7:44 if i we're serge ibaka i would name my first son dirk - van gundy 😂
truly blessed to have witnessed this in my lifetime.
i could watch this guy shoot all day long ! -- damn dirk !
Dirk shooting like he's @ YMCA
I know Luka is on his way to become great . But man, Dirk is on another platform bro. That run by Dallas is unstoppable. Dirk is like a demi god playing basketball with mere mortals
Not a comparison Luka is no were close to dirk🤣
I love Luka he can avg 35 for the rest of his career, until he does something like this he’s not above Dirk
Dirk could control the whole game. Luke takes naps.
one of the best performances in NBA history. Absolutely unreal
I'm so thankful Dirk stayed tru to Dallas.... Gotta luv Dirk
Dirk was the first bonafide Superstar I ever saw play in Dallas. Steve Nash wasn't great yet when he was with Mavericks and Dirk, so he doesn't count. When you think of Jason Kidd you think Nets, with Nash it's the Suns.
The Greatest player in Mavericks history is Dirk Nowitzki and it's not even close.
When you're dropping 50 and upper 40's at the time when it's needed, and your team wins -- you're the real deal.
When you shoot 80+% from the field and don't miss a free throw for like 2 games straight -- that's awesome!!!
When he beat a Yankee's style custom built super team with 3 HOF players on it, and he had not a single all star to back him up in 2011 -- That sealed it for me on whether or not Dirk was an all time great.
I'd take Dirk over Lebron any day. Why?? LOYALTY!!! when things get shitty, he stays in Dallas... When the team needs money to give him help -- he doesn't run to Miami, he stays and pays the new guys from his how Salary. There's a study that was done comparing Dirk's salary to what he was actually worth and it's comical. Some years he was making 9 Million and the #1 Pick was signed for 13 million. That's right -- to help his team, he lost 11 million in salary to pay a worthless rookie that didn't amount to anything.
This is actually why MJ is really the GOAT. Dirk had one legendary playoff run that resulted in a title, and he became one of the all-time great legends. Jordan had SIX of these playoff runs enroute to a title. Damn.
@@jamirimaj6880 exactly bro 👍
Terry was a all star that year kid a haller a famer what u talking Chandler the defensive of the year
@@jamirimaj6880 Jordan was always the best player though. The competition wasn’t as tough today. MJ never had to go through a 2011 Miami team or a 2011 OKC team. Or the 2011 lakers. Most competition he had he lost until the pistons and Celtics got old. Then the toughest was Karl Malone and John Stockton.
@@jamirimaj6880 mj had more help and less competition, the only run he had even comparable to dirks was his 98 one and that team still won 60+ games
He just stood there, looked the defender in the eye, shot in their face
Almost 13 years later and Serge is still probably having nightmares about that game
Greatest Run I have ever witnessed 🔥
Goatzki
And it's not like hes beating up on someone weakling during this game, this is SERGE IBAKA he's destroying, a three time all defensive team member. crazy shit
Ibaka was defensive team because of his shot blocking. Not individual post defense.
Actually this is Dirk's story in that playoffs.
He’s the most UNDERRATED big man ever. He was jokic before jokic
Different play styles
Not a single soul could guard that guy
One of the coldest performances in a playoffs. They were supposed to get smashed by OKC
I just realized how true this is. As one of the comments above, in game 1 dirk just played perfect basketball but barely won then split the next 2 games. In game 4 okc blew a 15-point deficit in 5 min. And in game 5 blew another big lead late in the 4th quarter. If things has gone a little differently the okc could've beat them in 5 games
DIRK was undeniably GODLY this season 🔥 and I actually felt sorry for LeBron but he know what he did karma is undefeated ‼️
The most humble player ever alongside Steve Nash
I’d also say Tim Duncan as well
2:06 2nd quater, 4mins left, Dirk finally misses🤪
Lmao and wasn’t this thunder team like elite defensively? How unstoppable can one man be… and tbh if he were this age today he’d probably be better because of the rule changes
so this is when harden learned to live at the line
Harden was already doing it then. I remember in this series he intentionally ran up to Chandler after a made shot and tried to bounce off him and act like he'd been elbowed....same shit he later tried with Ron Artest and caught a real one for. 😄
Y’all can’t never talk about Harden no more
Refs horrible
5 thumbs down = OKC starting 5.. lol :D
Great show by Dirk but these 24 ft are actually rather a minus than a plus if you talk about the greatness of a performance. Still something to awe.
Ryszard Kiliński tied michale Jordan with most in a qtr and broke a nba record with most consecutive... Plus bro
the fuck are u saying
@@Star-pl1xs FR bro 😂
7ft big men being 24-24 from the line is such a common occurrence i guess😂
Those "fouls" tho
Superstars get superstar calls. It's no different with Durant LeBron and Kobe. But I agree though. About 3 of those werent fouls.
Miami Heatles Durant, Harden, Lebron - all superstars get such calls or even worse. Dirk was nearly perfect from the field in that game and dominated entire playoffs.
Don't use superstar calls as an excuse. Look at 2:35, the only contact was on Dirk's "stiff arm". Not even Lebron gets that kind of call, the referee must been tripping.
@@nomooon lmao, that's a textbook foul
Agree but Jordan I think set the standard a long time ago that sometimes times you can't so much as breathe around a superstar before you hear the whistle.
