    ABOUT COLDPLAY
    Since forming at university in London, Coldplay have gone on to become one of the planet’s most popular acts, selling more than 100 million copies of their nine Number One albums, which have spawned a string of hits including Yellow, Clocks, Fix You, Paradise, Viva La Vida, A Sky Full Of Stars, Hymn For The Weekend, Adventure Of A Lifetime, Orphans and, most recently, Higher Power and My Universe.

    What "old" Coldplay? Coldplay made many albums, there's "Parachutes", "A rush of blood to the head", "X&Y". They are all different. There's nothing "quintessentially Coldplay". They experiment on music on many levels. One cannot expect that their music would stay the same after 3 albums...

    • @eskervandewerken9431
      @eskervandewerken9431 Před 10 lety +6

      Nope, they've made Mylo Xyloto (and Ghost Stories) with help from Brian Eno, and I have noticed a change in the particular intervals Coldplay used to use, which made them so good in the first place. But this song and Major Minus are without the (melodic) influence of Brian Eno, and that's why these aren't so bad, or even very good.

    • @Charlie-uy3cw
      @Charlie-uy3cw Před 10 lety +4

      Esker van de Werken Viva La Vida was made with the help of Eno too!

    • @eskervandewerken9431
      @eskervandewerken9431 Před 10 lety +1

      Yeah, you're right, I've searched for it after I made the comment hahaha. Maybe he didn't have as much influence on Viva la Vida than he did on Mylo Xyloto/Ghost Stories because the songs were made before he was going to produce the albums. After Viva La Vida Brian Eno said to Chris Martin: "Viva La Vida is a good album. But the next one has to be better" (Something like that, I heard it in an interview once) and I think that could've been the downfall. Because Coldplay hasn't stopped making big hits (not that it's important, but it is significant), they're just not that good anymore.

    Somewhere up above the stars
    The wreckage of a universe floats past
    Somewhere up above my heart
    A tiny little seed is sown, a government is overthrown,
    Who knows when we'll be coming home at last
    And I heard it on the radio that one day we'll be living in the stars
    And I heard it on a TV show that somewhere up above and in my heart
    They'll be tearing us apart, maybe moving us to Mars
    We won't see the earth again
    And the seconds just remain unchanged
    8 to 9, 9 to 10
    We are meeting for the first time
    We might never meet again, you and me
    We are meeting for the first time can't you see
    7 6 5 4 3
    We are meeting for the first time
    Singing this space symphony
    They'll be tearing us apart, maybe moving us to Mars,
    Past the satellites and stars, they're moving us to Mars

  • @karrlosmith1028
    @karrlosmith1028 Před 9 lety +116

    Ghost stories is an interlude album, if you know Coldplay you know that, it's not an involved record, there are 4 mentally engaging songs on the album, it is a manically depressing album in the best way, Chris Martin knows that Coldplay's music is bigger than Him and or the band, in retrospect it will be appreciated, there are those of us who appreciate it now. Don't think about how you feel about the music. Don't try to understand it, just let it move you, if the music does not move you it is not the musics fault. Likewise it does not mean it's your fault either, music is something that we try to quantify. This can be done, but ultimately it takes the soul away from the sounds that spill forth, leading us to catagorize and strip the integrity of the piece.

    • @renocicchi7346
      @renocicchi7346 Před 7 lety +5

      Or just put it in without replacing any songs. Hip hop albums can go up to 30 songs, I don't know why other genres rarely make it up to 15

    • @ericfeng6711
      @ericfeng6711 Před 7 lety +2

      It's easy to keep the transition songs, just make them part of the song before, like Charlie Brown's piano solo. I don't mean remove them completely, just don't make it a separate song. (Another example would be Don't let it Break your heart's transition into Up with the birds)

      Not exactly, but yeah.
      Coloratuta is a gift, a tribute for the OG fans, those who listened to every song from them. That solo isn't the only reference to the older albums. Listening carefully, you'll notice traits from 'How you see the world' and 'X&Y', for example.

    Coldplay, how could you not release this? It is simply amazing! Better than UFO and much better than Up in Flames and Princess of China.

    The first time I listened to this song, I was eating a gourmet burger in a 2-century old building on the river in a small town on a gorgeous summer day, surrounded by my family. For some reason, this song always reminds me of that.

    I think U.F.O and Hurts like Heaven are the best songs on the whole album
    Not that I don't like the other songs, love them to but U.F.O and Hurts like Heaven give me such a special feeling and automatically put a big smile on my face.
    And they are more special for me now because they showed me this beautiful masterpiece!!!
    Moving to Mars should not be replaced by any song
    Because it doesn't belong to any album and stands on his own it makes it all the more special to me
    First time when I heard it was incredible
    But when you get to 1:46......
    That feeling is just indescribable!!!!
    LOVE YOU COLDPLAY!!!
    (A.k.a. Best band in the known galaxy)

    This song pulled me back into depression and away from reality again. And I feel comforted. I'm back in the state of mind where I feel safe. Where nothing matters. The world collapses in on itself.

    Part 2 of 2: I do agree that the song is metaphorical and for anyone who doesn’t understand the metaphor, it is because you have not designated or found your own meaning for it. You have not interpreted the song any further than the sound coming out of your speakers. If you do, you will open up a pretty amazing insight into the world of music as a form of art and expression.
