Well, I've fallen in love with Ride the Cyclone as of recent and decided to try my hand at fan animatics again, something I haven't seriously done since my Six animatics. I plan to hopefully animate the entire musical! It's perhaps a bit too ambitious, and I want to leave time for original content, so no promises here.
Also yes, that IS Ezra Lamb near the end. I do not care that Legoland is "technically in a different but parallel universe", the idea of Ezra knowing Penny was joining the choir and going to the fall fair, never seeing her come back, and KNOWING what must've happened is painful enough that it is going to be true in my little animatic universe.

No yeah, I think a lot of people don't think about the aftermath in the living world after all is said and done. Plus, although it could be argued that they all did pass instantly due to entering the afterlife at the same time, from a logistical perspective it wouldn't have been impossible for some to have survived initial impact (although consciousness would've been up in the air as well) and only later really died in the hospital. This musical gets dark-

At 2:11 you can see Constance amazed! Is this a reference to jawbreaker? Cause she says that she didn’t scream like the other kids. She thought it was rad how she was flying upside down and you could see the whole fair! And at 3:28 you could see A body with no head!! I love all the details you put into this!!
HI!! It partially is! The specifics of specifically slipped my mind while I was drawing, but I was trying to take into account every detail the musical presents later on about the characters, so I guess it must've subconsciously influenced how I drew Constance in that scene. And also congrats on noticing Penny/Jane's body in that part! Good eye! Thank you for watching ^^
I think it's a trick of the eye. The top half of all the characters' heads are structured with circles: Constance's actual mouth is right at the bottom of her head in a small frown, but the construction lines make it look like an ear to ear grin with a tongue at the bottom
I CANT STOP WATCHING THIS!!! I love what you did with "Spinning round and round and round" (Even if I think a seizure warning should be mentioned somewhere /nm) and the use of dark in the afterlife, bright in the real life. And how, over the end bridge, you show what's going on in the real world. A+!!!

As someone who was in an accident similar to this (on an ATV that went off a cliff, rather than a roller coaster), this is pretty similar to what my vision was like on the way down. It was kind of terrifying to witness here in this video, but also kind of cathartic? Affirming, even. Like-yes, that’s what I experienced. That’s what it’s like to fall from the sky.

Loved the animatic! I liked the designs, the way you incorporated the town, and showed their reaction to the six deaths! But man imo this song can't even reach the heels of Fall Fair Suite. Ocean and Noel showing their anger and despair at the situation just makes it better in every way
I definitely agree with you on that! It was actually a pretty tough decision on which opening make an animatic of, since I personally prefer Fall Fair Suite for the reasons you mentioned-Uranium Suite only won out since there's no widely available footage of it compared to Fall Fair Suite.

In my part of the story, I read all of the children's fortunes - I felt their hopes, thoughts, dreams, knowing they would board the doomed rollercoaster... and could tell them nothing. I even suggested that they ride the cyclone

On Monday, September 14th, they would board the cyclone rollercoaster at 6:17 pm
At 6:19, the same rollercoaster's front axle would break, causing it to derail at the apex of the loop-de-loop, hurtling the children to their deaths!

1:13 Jane Doe? Because in the RTC trailer for the Alliance theater Jane/Penny was shown to had twin braids and she's walking past Karnak (Jane never had her fortune read) if so that's cool you knew that/put it in the trailer
Yes, you actually summarized the intent behind that scene incredibly well! The design is 100% a callback to the promo footage / photos, which is actually also probably influenced by the script to Legoland, which describes Penny as having french braids :0) Good eye, and thanks for watching!

This is wonderful! I love how the first thing we see is Penny walking past Karnak when we get to the fall fair, so it's when Karnak says he didn't read her fortune, we subconsciously remember that scene. I also love how Ocean is hesitant to get on the Cyclone, a clear reference to "Fall Fair Suite".
"Minor Turn" (what the script calls everything after the "Sailing Through Space" bit, but I've seen some sources say its everything following the choir singing the actual suite) is probably my favorite part of the animatic. The newspaper plastered on the wall of the Mega Shopping Mall, the Ambulance, their bodies (and Jane's headless body), Ezra finding the bodies on accident AUGH its just so good!
EDIT: Do you have any plans to do the other opening numbers like Tragic Fact, Fall Fair Suite, and Waiting for the Drop?
Yes! I really wanted to include Penny in some way, since she's obscured for most of the shots, having her design communicated prominently so it makes more sense when it appears again (specifically I have some plans for the end of It's Just a Ride), while also hinting about how her fortune was never read was killing two birds with one stone. And Ocean's part in Fall Fair Suite is actually my favorite so I just had to include the nod to that. Also makes me so excited whenever anyone notices my nods to Ezra, I love legoland so much and damnit I will be including stuff about it.
Also! I've gone back and forth about doing the other openings. It'd definitely be in the farther future, I imagine I'll need a serious break from RTC content after the main songs in this video series wrap up, however, I've actually had some ideas for Waiting for the Drop floating around. There's a section that isn't included in its official upload, and it is INCREDIBLE I would literally kill to draw it. The other two openings are more 50/50 for me. Love them dearly, but I'm unsure if I'd have anything unique to bring to the table that warrants drawing them all.

Yes, Ocean's part in Fall Faire Suite is AWESOME, and the "round and round" underneath it sounds AMAZING! It's probably my favorite out of all of the "round and round"s.
I actually haven't read LegoLand yet, so I don't know much about it except that's where Jane originates, and I honestly forgot how I know who Ezra is/how he looks like, haha! But I know that Ezra is Penny's little bro!
Yeah, yeah, give yourself a break! You deserve it after making all of these incredible videos! Give it some time to let your creative juices flow, and I'm sure you'll come up with something awesome!
And yes, the full Waiting for the Drop is wonderful! I love how it incorporated Jane Doe's scale and little vocalization. That's actually one of my gripes about the current version of "Uranium". EVERY version of the opening number incorporates Jane's scale and operatic notes EXCEPT this one. But it kind of makes up for it by having Jane somewhat audible during the part where the choir is actually singing the suite.
As I said before, if you decide to do the other openings, I'm sure it'll be great! Just give yourself some time to come up with some good ideas! But no pressure if you don't end up animating the other opening numbers. The sheer epicness of this animatic will still be enough for me!

I do too!! Both of them have their strengths (Uranium Suite being more setting exposition, and Fall Fair Suite giving us a better feel for the characters), and it'd be so cool to have an opening that incorporates both

Thanks for watching! RTC has gone through a pretty turbulent history-pretty much most of the songs have been extensively rewritten. (And this is the cutoff for me rambling on about some RTC history so feel free to just stop here-or not). There's atleast four different renditions of the opening number-I'm guessing your first exposure was the Fall Fair Suite from the popular bootleg (2016 off broadway)? If that's the case, you should definitely check out Tragic Fact (an earlier rendition of Uranium Suite from the 201...3? Production) and Waiting for the Drop. (ASSUMIMG YOJ HAVEN'T, you might've, I dunno!)
Anyways! If you're ever interested I also suggest looking on soundcloud for an earlier version of Ballad of Jane Doe from the 2011/2013 version. I think it was posted by user Summerworks? BUT YEAH sorry to drop all that on you but seriously, the production of this small musical is super interesting!

Legoland is actually a play, not a book! The canon explanation is that Legoland is a seperate universe from RTC, and the two Pennys are not the same-but I chose to ignore that in my animatics because its a less fun explanation.
I won't spoil much, since you can probably easily find the script online, but the events of Legoland are when Penny is 15, and its narrated by a 16 year old Penny-so given the choir is all seniors, it'd take place pre-RTC. As to why no one remembered Penny despite the trouble she gets into? Well I guess that's up for interpretation.

Not to sound insensitive but WHERE DID JANE DOES HEAD END UP and how was it NEVER found like how hard did they actually look
NO BUT YOURE RIGHT the cyclone disaster as presented is very unrealistic but we shall simply suspend our disbelief for the sake of plot
They could not have found Jane's head because it was crushed by the cart falling on her, perhaps? Then it would make more sense - they couldn't find her head because it was in too many pieces. But that's probably wrong.

Yes!! I'm doing every song in order, so it'll be a while before I get to those songs, but the plan is to get them done along w the rest of the numbers. If plans fall through though, Its Not A Game/Its Just a Ride is definitely a high priority for getting done as its what inspired this project in the first place.

I love this!! But one question 👀 was Jane not being put in most of it on purpose due to the fact most couldn't remember her? Not even the ppl in the choir?
Yup! You can still see traces of her in the background where she should be, such as on the coaster or memorial poster, but I left her out of any major shots to remain that level of mystery about her existence. And as sort of an "in-universe" reason as to why she's not in the beginning portion, Jane/Penny joined the choir late enough where she probably couldn't be squeezed into that performance, her getting to join them at the fall fair at all being seen as a sort of "get to know these people" sort of thing.

The only one that was misappropriated was 1:20, which is actually Ricky! My mindset while drawing this was that Penny tapped out for a bit, passing by Karnak as she did... whatever, leading the choir to get their fortunes as they waited for her (probably only at the urging of Father Marcus, who was likely the only one who really noticed or cared about Penny due to being the choir's chaperone at the fair). By the time Penny came back, the choir was already itching to go to The Cyclone rollercoaster, and she was promptly ignored again, being one of the last to board along with Ricky (hence both sitting in the back together)
Also, 3:41 is... probably not her head? I can't say for certain my intentions with my year old art (curse my old messy lineart), but given the hair it's... probably Noel...? his body is just... kinda behind Ocean and Constance's.

I don't recall if they went into the specifics of what he did in the choir in earlier versions of the show-but in the most current script, Ricky plays the tambourine.
As to how he got in, Ocean says to him "I got you into the choir, even though you couldn't even talk or anything and were like super sick and made everyone feel sorry for us.... accessibility for all!", making him essentially treated as the choir's diversity hire :/

Trust me, I considered it! Ultimately, it came down to choosing btwn it and Uranium Suite, and I chose Uranium Suite. Since I'm doing every major song in the soundtrack I do not think I have the mental strength to go back and do Fall Fair Suite too lol, but I totally encourage you or any other artist to make your own fall fair suite animatic-honestly if I made my own itd probably just be retreading the same ground as this animatic
