I was a lonely Ford man in HS when I listened to this on the Radio. It was the start of a great run for Ford in the 60s. A great win for Tiny.

It never ceases to amaze me what talent and bravery these pioneer drivers and teams had. 160+ in (nearly) STOCK cars virtually without any aero. Freaking awesome! Long live big-block V-8's!

I'm sorry to have to say this but I sincerely would rather watch these old races on film as I would watch them live on television! I've been following NASCAR since 1969 just not the same anymore it's sad... Thank you for what you do! 🤪😁

☑️ Yeah, and maybe it's time for organizations like NASCAR & NHRA to get back to showcasing stock-ish cars in racing, like they used to. Why the hell not? It should be a no-brainer now that American car manufacturers have FINALLY gotten back to producing performance cars, which handle better than the muscle cars of the 60s.

☑️ Same with the NHRA's Pro Stock class. It used to be based on production cars and engines, and it was very popular from the beginning. But then the mid 70s rolled around, and factory produced performance cars basically vanished. As a result, Pro Stock became just another class of ultra-expensive, special purpose race cars, all of which use the same 500ci race-only DRCE engine, which is just an aftermarket big block Chevy that costs $50,000 or so.
That means ALL Pro Stock cars are powered by big block Chevy engines now. You need brand partisanship to create passion for the competition. But having everyone run the same big block Chevy engine kind of saps the class of brand passion. Couldn't they have at least allowed Ford performance and Mopar to develop THEIR OWN 500ci big block race engines?
They need to utilize the current class of big 3 sports cars and engines to create a NEW Pro Stock class, that is based around the REAL Camaro, Mustang and Challenger/Charger models, each using equal sized versions of the modern Ford, Chevy and Mopar engines!
If you didn't want to use the small cubic inch Ford modular motor, then use a modified pushrod Godzilla motor.

Living in the northeast as a kid, my only exposure to NASCAR racing was the Wide World of Sports. Only one fellow student (we were in the fifth grade) followed along. Today's NASCAR is a giant, big money snooze fest compared to the days of real-stock-cars. What a shame.

1963 Pontiac showed up with the same engine as the 1962. Plymouth brought the 426 Wedge for the first time, Ford the 427 FE and Chevy the 427 "mystery motor". Out of the box - the Chevy had the best potential (due in part to the canted valve head design) - but GM decided to get out of racing so only 50 of NASCAR 427s got built for 1963 - and they were not fully sorted - leading to Junior Johnson and other Chevy failures. The Chevy guys ended up having to largely switch to other makes with no GM factory support during the 63 season. Ford's 427 was not quite as stout as the Chevy 427 - but it was lighter and reliable - winning the 500 and bunch of races in 1963. Mopar had enough of getting its teeth kicked in with Wedge head big blocks - so for 1964 the Hemi 426 was developed. Ford did alot of development work on the 427 FE to keep close to the Hemi over the rest of the 60s (but being lighter was always its biggest edge). The 429 Boss was introduced in 1969 - and finally meet the 426 Hemi on equal terms on the big tracks.
