This is Brian's technical program from the World Professional Figure Skating Championships. It is based on the spread eagle and is a beautiful and elegant piece of skating.
Magnificent. Watching Boitano is like watching a ballet dancer reinvented for the ice, exceptional grace and purity of form. But what I love particularly is the themes of his performance are always very masculine. At nearly 6 foot, he has the frame to excel at certain moves that petite skaters can never do as well.
Brian speaks out on some CZcams videos about how he was frequently underscored, and struggled to believe he’d ever receive recognition for skating that often far out scored other skater’s technical programs. He kept these observations from the public for decades. But anyone watching Brian could see it occurring.
lps773 -Elegy for Harp and Strings is a strong rival in my opinion. But I simply love this program, and the impeccable performance. I feel that people no longer grasp Brain’s impeccable, yet strong clean-lined approach. The stately attitude, down to the perfect form of arms and hands with the ballet dancer’s gentle arc in the hand upon raising it, the overall perfection of his body line, as well as the exquisitely positioned gentle, slightly back leaning arch of his back, make this performance a study in perfection. It takes a supremely gifted and confident skater to attempt a performance that relies so heavily on perfect execution of line, turns, edges, and jumps, without any gimmicks which would completely destroy this piece. Yet I fear that most skaters wouldn’t be able to resist the temptation to guild the lily, so as to gain appreciation from less informed audience members..
Yes! Brian was simply perfect. And let’s acknowledge the tremendous strength, amplitude, edges, musicality, and his height, which along with unparalleled dedication, determination, and unmatched practice, we’ll never see again. Today’s skating, aside from dance, is awful to watch. The skating in skating departed with Brian and his generations. A fee rate exceptions- Jason Brown, and Adam Rippon.
::: slap forehead::: I neglected to add speed and power! Only Brian Boitano could ever skate like that. I miss the taller men and the power they could produce. The diminutive male skaters of today who win completions leave me cold. It feels like I’m watching children skate, instead of men!
Had to see this master of perfection's beautiful performance...Brain does SERIOUS work...no cutesy games to fool the eye. He always has the hardest show...stuff nobody else dares to try. Putting that hand over his head during that jump/spin, throws off the center of balance,,,yet he is a master of it. How about his long lasting, gravity defying Spread eagle?? DEar Brian your country could not be more proud of you and all that you are as a man too. Thank You so much! WITH MUCH LOVE FROM THE USA.
If the Canadians and the Russians had only played fair and not cheated Brian would have needed an 18 wheeler to take home his medals in. But he did well anyway.
Probably the greatest ever, both athletically and artistically. Today’s acrobats on skates could learn so much from him.
I always thought Brian was the best of the best.

Once in a lifetime. Such grace in difficult movements.

Ah this one. I remember this one.

Magnificent. I hope someday this performance will be recognized as Boitano's best.

The judges that gave Brian the 9.9 should be flat out embarrassed. That was perfection. I stand amazed at his technical ability and artistry.
A really great skater.
