  • In some ways, there is never a final chapter to old cars... we keep tinkering and making improvements as we go... including replacing (new) indicator globes after this video was taken. This is the last restoration video of this car, we're finally on the road. Hope you enjoyed it.

    Currently working on a 64/80, almost exactly like this one so it's amazing to have a reference to work from. Not many wolesely owners here in South Aus so I feel a little left on my own doing this one.
    Can't wait to have it up and running, I'm aiming by Christmas but goals are usually never met... So more likely by mid next year.

    LUR228 was owned by my late friend Eran, who had it stored in a garage for many years. He always meant to restore it but obviously never did so. I don’t know if he added the tasteless rear shelf speakers, or what else he did, but it was clearly in quite poor condition. He would have loved to see it looking pristine once again, you did great work on that 24/80 Peter!

    • @PeterAndersons
      @PeterAndersons  Před 7 měsíci

      I looked in this video and couldn't see which car you referred to. LUR228 was a general issue plate my mother had, assigned to a Torana she bought new in 1973, which was sadly written off in 1980. I had since bought the plates through VicRoads and have had it on several cars. Which car did Eran have it on? Merry Christmas.

    • @DinoHD9594

      @@PeterAndersons Eran had a blue Wolseley 24/80 identical to yours and I thought its number plate was LUR228. I asked his partner before I posted and she thought his Wolseley had that number plate too, but we don’t have a photo of it so maybe we're wrong. I don’t know the history of his Wolseley before he bought it.

    They were a fine family car (ideal with 2 small children); my father purchased a mark I 24/80 in the mid 1960's, and as the family grew, (2 more children) traded it for an HR Holden wagon. He loved the grill pattern on the Wolseley, and travelled extensively with it. They had leather seats, woodgrain dash, illuminated sign on the grill, as standard equipment, and represented class in motoring..

I currently own and ride three Honda motorcycles: 1979CBX, 1982 CM400T, And finally a 1985 VF1000R. Not showroom quality because I'd rather ride them. I used a friend's CB750F for a summer(he went away to boot camp) and it was indestructible. Believe me, I tried. Lots of fun. Thank you for the acknowledgement and good luck in your endeavours.

    The traditional Wolseley radiator emblem on the grille which lit up when the lights were on was a nice feature. In South Africa they were known as the 16/60 so no idea how it get the 24/80 nomenclature. I had one and converted the motor to that of the MGB with twin SU carbs, modified exhaust and got rid of the horrendous Armstrong shocks .Also got rid of the front drum brakes and fitted MGB power assisted Disc Brakes. I still have that car here in Western Australia and underwent a total strip down to bare metal and fully repainted in California Red as per the big Austin-Healey,s. Interior was gutted and a new Rosewood dashboard hand made . Seats are genuine leather in a medium grey with read piping and grey plush Wilton Carpets and in the boot as well . Now fitted with a four speed all gears synchromesh gearbox with overdrive. Gets used for long distance trips and fitted with 130/100W headlights , plus a pair of genuine Lucas spot and spread beam lights.

      @@steinwaygrande3971 They also thought that the 4 speed gearbox might just not be up to handling the extra power so they put new internals into the manual box and reduced it to a 3 speed, no synchro on first, but they fitted a "dog" type device that allowed you to crunch it back into first on the run,. they also had a belief that Australians were not fond of changing too many gears so when it came to the Wolseley,Major and Lancer, they progressively dropped the Diff ratio from 3.7 early models1500 cc then to 4.3 early 1600's, then back to the Morris Minor ratio of 4.5 on the 1622 cc, The spare parts man told me when I shattered the rear axles on my 1500cc Major that they had a different part number to the Minor, But I have my doubts, It was not a good idea to use skinny axles with a bigger engine.

I have a Wolseley 16/60 that i am planning to restore just as you did, it is basically the same car but only with a 4 cylinder 1622cc motor. So think your videos are going to help a lot. Hi Peter,
    I have commented on your videos before and I have to tell you that your channel is brilliant, the must watch channel and the one I look forward to most of all. I love it how you can do all these cars pretty much with your own skill. Unfortunately I am not lucky enough to possess these attributes although I do have a good mechanical knowledge. I have a question though. Are you planning on doing that Austin Countryman at all? I have seen it in a few previous videos and would love to see it recommissioned and documented on video. Those old BMC cars are something that I am trying to learn more about and I love what they are and what they represent. I have had only 2 BMC (Leyland) cars in the past and both were P76's. Anyway, I wish you well and I thought it would be good to drop you a line letting you know what I think. Look after yourself.
    Regards, Dave Lewis
