  • My restoration video of an extremely rare artifact from WW1. Antique lighter in the form of a pistol revolver made of brass. This antique lighter is over 100 years old, but has been very well preserved. It was found in the places of the front trenches of World War 1. We assume that this lighter was made by one of the soldiers and is the only copy in the world. During the restoration, I tried to preserve the surface and leave all traces of antiquity that the lighter has acquired over time. Corrosion damaged only the upper part of the surface of the lighter, only micro damages (shells) appeared in the brass. Have you seen similar vintage rare items? Maybe you have them)
    Also, do not forget to rate my work in the comments from 1 to 10.😉
    I am very interested and important to know your opinion.🙂
    Thanks everyone for watching! See you!)
    It will be even more interesting later...

    A hint for future lighter restores is soaking the parts with the dirt and lighter fluid buildup in Dawn dish soap for a few hours. It makes taking gunk like this much easier to remove! 10 out of 10 for cool lighter and great result.

    Thin piece of oak, chequered, would have looked great on the grip. Again, you take it from “No way is he restoring that one!” to in awe. Almost as if the old things, themselves -especially ones associated with war- want to be brought back to life. Not dead, yet.

    Nice polishing job. Lighter not from WW1 more likely 1960''s / 70's when brass was at its height of popularity. You can age the lighter by the machined threads.

    I give you a 10 + for such a Wonderful Restoration. You tought this Old Gal a New Trick. Never in my Wildest Dreams would I ever have thought of Pepsi an a Mentos to clean Gunk off something like that. Loved ❤️ the Gun Lighter my Dad would have gotten a kick out of this Video. Now I've done Coke the Orginal recipe years ago which was tame even back in the 60's & 70's compared to when it was made. Thank you so much for sharing this Wonderful Video with a Fantastic Restoration. Take care of you an yours Sir. ❤️

    Pistol design is much more contemporary....not a typical design from 1914 through 1918....I doubt it's World War I vintage...but if you are giving it away, I wouldn't say no...

    • @TheRestorer
      @TheRestorer  Před rokem +1

      Do you think that no one would have been able to produce such a thing during the First World War? Revolvers were a very common weapon at that time.

    • @kylestauffer21
      @kylestauffer21 Před rokem

      @@TheRestorer mass production... maybe..., Soldier produced, highly unlikely. I assume the description of trench art and made by a soldier allude to that...
      Also, you are correct...the famous 1911 was the sidearm of the soldier in the first world war.. but that is an automatic, much less complicated design as far as shape and detail if one was to try and manufacture in the trenches and it was the new kid on the block having been around since the early 1900s...I'm skeptical.
      Not a criticism, and nice job on the restoration.

    it's a great vid . But I don't think this peice is from ww1 for a few reasons the spring is is excellent condition all of the others of that era have rusted to bits. Second where is the lead solder on this as that was how it would have been made at the time and I can't see any at all. thirdly the threads are modern ones and so is the flints striker.
