- 10-year-old Joshua has seen a number of his father's girlfriends come and go, and none have been able to fill the motherly role he desperately needs. That is until his father, Tom begins to date a talented illustrator named Claudia. Joshua is skeptical of Claudia, to begin with, but the two soon form a bond that is jeopardized when Tom decides to call things off. Joshua soon begins to feel his father doesn't realize how much he is need of a mother and reaches out to Claudia in the hopes she will adopt him. After Joshua's biological mother reenters the picture, a complicated and emotional case for what's best for Joshua ensues.

Oh, very good acting, and I bawled at the end, when Joshua was out with his mother and then he found/saw Claudia/Melissa at her book signing, and he went to see her, and she gave him a book, & he saw that she named the book after him!!! This movie was very well done!!!
This movie is so bittersweet. I can’t help but feel sorry for Josh because I could have been in his shoes. My biological father wasn’t up to the task so he left when I was one but my mother didn’t become distant. She was completely devoted to me and always made sure that I felt loved. Her high school sweetheart who she later remarried became the true father I needed. In fact I’m pretty sure that my mom knew that he was the one because of how quick I learned to love him and how quick he learned to love me. If had gone the over way around I’m not sure what would happen to me.
I found with our children we gave. Them endless Love. Children are sponges they notice everything around them good or bad. Every childhood up bring is important. We loved them all no favourites. I am proud how they have become adults and moved on in Life with good qualities to apply in Life. Widow now and Family now look after me as I am 76 now. Love from Australia ❤️🇦🇺❤️

Great story. Awesome cast. Melissa Gilbert and Tim Matheson were good together. Little Josh was a perfect child and only needed a mothers unconditional love. Children always get hurt the most in adult relationships and thats not fair.

Good movie. It really shows how important a good family structure really is. Children need the attention of both parents. There would not be as many divorces if parents would think of their children before chasing after people who mean really nothing to them.
I personally went through a divorce
and know how much pain a child can go through. Now that I am older, I would not chose to make that decision even though I thought it was best at the time.
I love Melissa’ life style in this movie. So successful and independent and her home is so beautiful. This is a great movie. Thank you
Very highly recommended movie! It's a wonder to see how kid is much wiser than his father. Very often parents think they have given everything to their kids, but they forgot time is all the kids ask for.
Children are very bright around 11 when they start to question the adults around them and what they are doing.
I’m happy that Claudia gave Joshua’s Mom a chance. She really loved her son.

Very good movie, I loved it. Melissa Gilbert and Matthew Lawrence were excellent in the story, they really brought out the emotions, it was sad that Joshua was so oppressed by his dad and Claudia helped him to be a child instead of a grown up. Children need to be a child instead of having adult expectations, like his dad did, basically taking care of himself since he was 5, even making his dad coffee every morning.
If only people would open their eyes and see how their selfish lives affect the children they parent. They are little humans who will one day be the decision makers of our country and we are responsible to teach, care and love them, unconditionally..

I might give you a modicum of respect maybe if you didn't cram Jesus down others throats. Jesus is disgusted. I remember the Lord saying "thou shalt bitch moan and complain about those who are doing all the work." "Let the children come unto me" and I shall shame the little bastard non tax payers.
Very emotional movie and very talented actors made me very emotional when Joshua wanted to be adopted by Claudia and he had no real relationship with his biological mother. The Father was always not around and always at work and could not commit to a real relationship. His father really realized that his son needed a Mother figure in his life only after his son called the authorities to look into the situation. Very glad that Joshua made a difference in his mothers life and his fathers life as well as in Claudia's life. Very Touching ending but that is how some relationships that start to fast and break up with hardships on both ends. Glad there was a happy ending for Joshua and his parents and Claudia:)
awww, that's oh soooo loving and sweet and cute. They don't ever dare make movies like this anymore. Dirt, filth, anger, greed, killing and money means more to them than heart and love and emotion. Lovely stuff. Thanks for the upload.
They are doing some romantic movies on CZcams, but it's obvious that for the main market (television and cinema) this sort of movies has gone.

Thank you for sharing it, I only cried a few times. Broken people need love more than anything, I'm glad Josh's mother made the effort to come back into his life. Claudia was very wise, the character's didn't need to bash each other, the movie was well done.

This little boy got more love from Claudia than from anyone else in his life!! So sad. 😢
Joshua did have a big place in his heart to fill. Claudia's love was genuine and he knew what love was like. His dad had other women take his place, but he never said negative words to Joshua. He never raised his voice at him or raised his hand to him. Had he been like that Joshua would have been quite unhappy and he'd know depression. The mom truly loved her son and able to build the mom and son bonding.
Debbie Shultz and Meritta Scott ….. your comments are the only sensible and perceptive ones posted here. “Claudia “ had the intellectual and emotional intelligence to understand what the little boy was missing , deserved and needed and yes, she loved him with a genuine love . The father professes his love for his son , he professed being devoted to his care but it was ego driven . His ego had been offended by being dumped by a very young mother from a very different social background . She was and still at the end of the movie, way of her depth . The father , self centred man , I’d almost say “abuses “ his son by denying him the normality of having any feelings , eg nothing of sentiment or childhood magic, due to his bruised ego. He couldn’t cope , so denied his son the magic of friends and childhood , a loving childhood . It’s a pity that “Claudia “ was not awarded , at the very least , some official ongoing position in the little boy’s life , as a guardian /godmother responsible for providing the necessary, love and pastoral care which every child needs . He love and constancy could have been of immeasurable benefit to the child as he contended with two such inadequate parents and the loyalty he felt he owed them . A self centred father and a mother who was still unstable and immature . Plus , her lack of education in contrast to her son is too much for a child where the father is so egotistical, insensitive and thoroughly spoilt. IMO

Joshua’s Heart: A beautiful movie with a beautiful storyline, beautiful casts and beautiful development of drama and conflicts. A psychiatric social worker working with children portrayed splendidly in her role. A beautiful movie. Did I say twice? Melissa Gilbert still looks stunning with the passage of time!
Seeing your phrase "still looks stunning with the passage of time," I thought I'd let you know that this is a 1990 film. Gilbert was only 26 then.

Incondicional love is the true love. Others are condicional and selfish. To our spectation an that is not real love. When se comunicate heart to heart as in the movie is TRue Love.

Great movie! We’ll acted and we’ll written. I’m glad the adults eventually did what was best for Josh. Glad he gave his mom a second chance. She deserved it though it wasn’t easy for Claudia. She put Josh’s needs above her own- you just don’t see that kind of self sacrifice these days- too much “whatever makes me happy” in our culture.

I understand that unconditional love is to love, no matter what the other´s response may be. It´s a very mature love; perfect. But love can be imperfect, too. As long as it is, it´s all right. I think that the whole movie was that: a search for love. The heart to heart relationship involves liberty, honesty and depth, and it may become very painful when you find out that what you thought was, isn´t. Sometimes, not even we know who we really are. When Josh was skateboarding to go see Claudia I was enjoying looking at all those great, old cars. I can't believe they are vintage classics now. I'm so old! :(

Beautiful movie. The kid's Dad was an a$$hole but Melissa Gilbert was the perfect mother figure. A tear came to my eye when I saw the book and how happy the kid was. ✌🏻❤

This was a really good movie!!! I think I started watching that a while back, but I think maybe I fell asleep, as I deal with a lot of movies!!! Good old white out. I carried that stuff throughout college and find I still need it today. The father was not neglectful just busy earning a living but needed to focus more on Joshua's emotional wellbeing at this young age.

Great movie--- Mellissa Gilbert at her best!! Such a sad story, especially since this is the reality for many children. The mom deserves a chance, but I would give her a big hint----If you want a little boy to like you that is sensitive to smells (cheese), you might want to give up smoking. Not a good habit to exhibit around kids.
