Drumeo That is almost as a songo .He incorporates a lot of caribean stile.😎🇵🇷
Drumeo Cool !! nice!!!! i love drumming!!!!
sevenfacecomplex To me sownds like a litle mix of songo stile.I apologize if I'm wrong. 🇵🇷
You're not wrong, but you have the order backwards. There's a reason we put so much music under the umbrella of "Afro-Cuban" - you're hearing common musical ancestry between Songo and Afrobeat/Highlife.
I'm Brazilian and I was very, very happy when the interviewer asked him for an artist to be inspired by African music and he recommended fellow musician Seu Jorge. I don't know if you know, but Brazil is in South America, but the richness of African music is so great that he nominated a Brazilian musician, although Africa is so rich in great musicians. Thank you Drumeo for bringing this guest and I would like to recommend that fellow drummers listen to the Brazilian drummer Kiko Freitas.
Seu Jorge is an extraordinary artist.
Panamericafrica, mano. Muito Axè!
Of course, everybody knows Kiko Freitas in France ! (kidding). I'm a fan of Joao Bosco, and I'm very impressed by his musicians. But his partido alto is quite difficult, and most drummers in Europe or USA don't play the samba with the right feel (I include myself), because you must play the pandeiro and listen to real Brazilian music, not Steve Gadd.
At 5:17 he did the one thing every human should do when you slip up in life and drop a stick: laugh and grab another one. No one is impervious to mistakes; it's those slight imperfections that make us human. Amazing drummer.
Dunno how he kept all that busy stuff going on while he was fumbling with his stick I would've totally lost it lol
Rellay good Drumbeat 🤘👍💛 ❤️💕
My God! he is a true African drummer, he spoke of the Makoss style of Congo and others of Central Africa ... my Respect Tosin
Amazing drumming! I love African rhythms- they're everything: funky, rocking, chill, intense, driving, laid back, jazzy, soulful, hip hop roots, and so forth. Love the sound of this kit too. So many patterns, techniques, beats, fills, sounds, grooves, and approaches to learn here. It's fucking great.
I am from Afghanistan and this lesson was amazing I learned alot. Big thnx for you guyz
That's good to know. Cheers, Iso.
Really good drum beat
What a wonderful class and such a wonderful drummer! I'm not even a drummer myself, I'm a composer, but the knowledge he imparts here is invaluable for any musician.
At 5.16 counter there seems to be some kind of failed drum stick trick. Actually what I think what happened was that his grip was so loose and relaxed that very moment , all while he was phrasing absolutely wonderful right hand sweeps on the toms as melody counter part to the rest of his limb's beat playing, that the stick came free of his hand and he then very impressively co ordinated his right hand to recapture that flailing stick thus rescuing it for continued use and all the while never loosing a beat! It looked like a stick trick but when , and out of disbelief, I re watched found that his stick came loose during a sweeping technique he was using to execute his tom melody and he rescued the stick live and in the moment instead of letting it drop and reaching for another that was holster next to him. Very cool and honest moment that , upon further inspection, is super impressive and fun to re watch over. Great spirit in this guys playing and approach to set playing and music all together. Glad I watched, and re watched!
the drumming community is a sharing community! Love that, undeniably true.
Really slick smooth rolling grooves and learning these patterns will help with independence between all four limbs.
Oh my god! I have a new favorite drummer. His technique is so aggressive. So powerful
Tosin is not only a great drummer but a great teacher of African drumming on a drum set or traps. I'm not a drummer but learned so much from this video. Thanks for sharing.
From what I have heard so far, this drummer is a nothing short of awesome.
On the best drummer I have seen here. Great fondations and perfect groove...
Mehn! Tosin you're like super cool! Greetings from Lagos Nigeria.
I've learned about so many great drummers through this page. Keep the lessons coming!
I love it
45mins... That groovy solo sounds so chaotic and yet it fits, without being too OTT. Love it!
I been waiting for something like this
Drumeo... You guys rock! Thank you for the incredible opurtunity to improve our selves!
TGrove! First time hearing you Sir! Mind Blown! I have been truly blessed and inspired by your master class. You are a natural teacher and have an infectious passion with a laid back personality that drew me right in. I got a "Soul Vaccination" that I dropped what I was doing and sprinted to my set...played for hours! Thanks bro!
Tony Allen was an interesting person to see. His rehearsal process. This is so cool to hear the differences between American sensibility and (in this case) Nigerian approaches. Good stuff!
This guy is AMAZING can’t stop listening to this 👏🏾
Such tasteful playing. Loved every bit of it. Love all the way from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰.
Now that's some groove! I'm a huge Fela Kuti fan but for some reason I never really looked into his son's music.
You should have the godfather of afrobeat drumming, the great Tony Allen !
Reading this comment in 2022 🥲
My guy Tosin ARIBISALA I can’t stop loving his African Nigerian drum beat that really touched my hart ❤💚💜🇳🇬🥁🪘🔥
Captivating. I love this style of music
I love this drummer!!! greetings from Greece!!!
I've always love you egbon ...you are making African proud.. You are the best...
@Drumeo, make a lesson about the Brazilian Rhythms with Kiko Freitas, please.
Love this. So nice to hear such a detailed breakdown
Always wanted some lesson for this kind of rhythms. Thank you sir
I love this lesson so much. The rhythm section in a lot of western music (aka white people music, which I am) feels so "straight" and predictable. There's just something about African drumming that immediately makes you bob your head. It's like having a conversation, or water moving down a stream. It's so fluid.
Agreed
Great work brotherly, you are one in a Million you make me proud .
im glad to comes across ur channel...been looking out for some drumming pattern to incoperate into my music production and i stumble on ur great channel...kudos to Tosin,i have alot of knowledge to take from you and thanks to DRUMEO

Sem palavras pra esse camarada...Groove pesado!!! Parabéns, isso sim é África!
Nossa África tem Ritmos pesados, ele só não toco o sebene!!
Awesome examples, beautiful story, therapeutic music, thank you
Great grooves & music. Thanks for this! 🥁🎶🎉
I just found this video, but I have to wonder if Neil Peart saw it before he passed - I feel like he would have enjoyed watching it with the fascination he had for African rhythms.
The fact that drumeo did this is blowing my mind... 🤩😍😘
Thanks for bringing him out drumeo!
Tosin you are everything!
Tosin! Caught you years ago at Bohemian Caverns. Most excellent.
Excellent lesson! Some challenging and groovy patterns here.
African and Afro-Cuban have similar patterns.
Afrobeat is Fela. (Tony Allen) Afrobeats is the other popular genre in most Nigerian music videos.
The latter is heavily 2,3 clave or 3,2 claves. Others may use a soca variation. Then there's makossa variations used also.
There's Nigerian fuji music which is also more difficult as you have to mimic a talking drum.
Ok so I love this video ! Very smooth guys ! Thank you !
So awesome man...I just sent this to my drummer in our Band HighLife...It will inspire..
Incredible, so effortless.
Rimshots on that snare bring a smile to my face :)

This guy is a beast with the finger control! 😲
Great lesson, great job
Brilliant! Loved it
I love it
Loved it. learned a lot. Thanx.
This is a great vid. So much info
this is ancestral powers that was outstanding.
Quite a long ago, someone asked in the comments if you could make a video where you show the real sound of the drums, without all sound processing behind. Like raw drum, sounding natural, as if we were the drummer of the video. Jared answered that it could be interesting.
So do you plan to make it ? :)
Thank you for reading ! (btw thank you for the lesson, awesome video as always, Tosin Aribisala has such a great groove !)
I still like that idea. Its just hard to give you something that is "unprocessed". We'd have to work to make it sound that way as there is no way to not process it when we take an analog signal and run it into digital channels, then upload to CZcams where they also add compression. So nothing would be as natural as you just coming to Drumeo and listening to the kit! :-)
Yeah afrobeat, thank you to promote this fantastic drummer.
Lovely!
Awesome!
Brilliant! Feel, technique, poise, its all there - thankyou!....And don't mind the haters(wow there is 33 thumbs down..reaally???)
More feeling bro God bless you
Hey finally a Nigerian...Haha...Nice
nigeria 🇳🇬
all the way ✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽
incredible!!!
Absolutely fabulous class!! Is there a class with multiple sessions for Tosin's African Drum Set? I am a pro Djembe player who lived in Senegal during the 90's and spent the last 35 years of my life steeped in these rhythms and especially in their origins as African Dance Percussion (Djembe, Bougarabou, Sabar, Siko, Kpanlogo, Ewe-Gahu, Ashiko, ........so much more).
The concept of Perpetual Motion is a key to opening up the Dance Flow.
The fill at 1:01:37(ish) is having it off and yet looked so chilled. Super tasty!
Guy is light on his hands... It's like he doesn't have to move a muscle to make the stick work. slick stuff.
The man's got some sick drumming skills.
Amazing Drummer!
i guess if you want your kid to be great at an instrument just name him tosin huh?
lmao
You better believe it :) :D
And have him be black
36:29 That's pretty djenty
18:12 Rellay good Drumbeat

African drumming, afrobeats, West Africa is fenomenal!
