Elvis and i were friends for 10 yrs. up until his death. I was a kid from Memphis how we met was a series of events that i will not go into He wanted a friend and so did i we were that for each other. i asked nothing of him and he asked nothing of me. Elvis did not make friends easily because more times than not they wanted something from him. And as for parker all he wanted was money. Elvis was very ill his last time on stage he begged parker not to make him do it because he didn't want anyone to see him that way but did Parker care oh hell no. Between Parker and the so called Dr. Nick they killed the best friend i ever had in my life, i will always love and miss my friend. Elvis is what you get when you combine cool and smooth awesome reaction love to you from the one and only Memphis Tn.

If you continue watching Elvis, that would be amazing. One thing that I've learned after watching Elvis is that he had different "sections" of his career and if you don't know them, it can be hard to put things into perspective. This is long so I apologize. You can ignore it and go to the end where I put links to songs if you'd rather.
This first section was from 1954-1958. He started in 1954 and became known around certain parts of the country in 1955. It was 1956 that he became a big deal all around the country, partly because of his dancing, which certain people felt was "vulgar" or "immoral". If you watch it now, it'll be difficult to really understand, but it was the 50s. Songs like That's Alright, Mama (1954), Hound Dog (1956), and Jailhouse Rock (1957) came from this time.
In 1958, Elvis was drafted into the army at the height of his career. He had to serve two years. While there were songs released at this point, they would probably fit into the first section. There are interviews from around this time if you want to watch those.
In 1960, he came back from Germany where he spent about a year and a half, eventually become a Sergeant in the U.S. Army. While he had done four movies before going into the army, afterwards it was about all he did. From 1960-1969 he did 27 movies. There are some good songs from those movies like Can't Help Falling in Love (1961) and Viva Las Vegas (1964).
It overlaps a bit, but in 1968, Elvis decided that he wanted to do live appearances again. He did the 68 Comeback Special. He did performances of his old songs and some songs from the movies, but the big song that I think everyone needs to hear is If I Can Dream. It's a tribute to Martin Luther King Jr., who was assassinated almost 3 months before taping for the special began.
In 1969, Elvis started doing live performances again. This section was from 1969-1973. He had songs like In The Ghetto (1969), Suspicious Minds (1969), and An American Trilogy (1972).
After 1973, I don't think Elvis was seen much. His health was declining. He did a TV special in 1977, where he had a beautiful performance of Unchained Melody (1977). Sadly about six weeks after this special, Elvis died.

This concert was the first that was beamed by satellite to about 40 countries and was watched by 1.5 billion people which was almost half the world's population at the time. He was and still is a big deal! He grew up in severe poverty and was very generous to family, friends, strangers, and charities when he became rich and famous. Many don't know about the huge role he played in putting an end to segregation in this country.

And did Three Concerts in Canada in 1957 ..... And the Aloha From Hawaii Concert Was not only the first one ever done by satellite ..... But Elvis was the first solo Artist to achieve this ..... And yes over 11/2 Billion watched it at that time ...... But think about this .... How many did not even understand English ..... Today there are programs that help you get to understand one faster ..... Back then none ..... 3.032 billion (1960) ..... 3.913 billion (1973 ...... 4.839 billion (1985) ...... 7,953,952,577 (2022 ) ..... Average (median) family income in the United States was estimated at $4,200 in 1954 ..... Average (me the average poverty threshold for a family of four was $10,989 in 1985 ..... Lots more money to spend on pleasure In 1985 to that of 1954 ..... "In 1945, there were probably fewer than 10,000 sets in the country. This figure soared to about 6 million in 1950, and to almost 60 million by 1960." ..... By the mid-1960s a large color TV could be obtained for only $300- a mere $2,490 in today's money. It's unthinkable how much of an average worker's income that would have been back then. The median household income in 1966 was $6,882. It's no wonder that color TV was such an exclusive viewing experience.

In order for any songwriter to have Elvis sing any song, song writers had to hand over writing and rights to the colonel and Elvis or it would not get sung. That is why Elvis turned to more drugs. Same song same show night after night, no new material, music was taking a turn and the colonel knew it, drugs were his only way out. Get a life!

So, where did Elvis get the emotion, the intesity, and the connection to this song from? The Aloha from Hawaii concert was filmed in January 1973. Elvis and Priscilla filed for divorce in August 1972...just five months prior. According to Joe Moscheo of the Imperials, the failure of Elvis's marriage "was a blow from which he never recovered". I believe Elvis was letting all of that pain burst out of him on stage. And from that, we have this masterpiece performance.

That was cracking me up. But you should understand something about those rings. By now because I know this reaction is quite old and I just now stumbled across it even though I've been watching your channel for a long time, I'm sure you know all about him but the rings were about, he had this personal jeweler that would carry around these black cases with expensive rings in them and they would load Elvis up and then gradually throughout the show he would hand them out to people and it's the strangest thing. Because it once they're worth a lot of money but on the other hand it's a nostalgic Keepsake that they probably wouldn't ever want to part with. And then if he ran out of rings, much like the scarves that he wore around his neck a lot of the time, then they would load him up again. So it's not just he's a random dude with Swaggart, there was actually really important purpose behind it. A huge reflection on his personality.
