This is not going to replace our main German Equatorial mount but instead will be used for our wide field rig (small refractor telescope), especially for long projects as this will be easy to carry in and out to the backyard when shooting a target for many nights in a row.

The days of heavy mounts is rapidly coming to an end, gonna grab one of these myself. Good luck with it.
Yes & no. The Periodic Error on harmonic mounts is relatively high, and in some cases the periodic error occurs quickly. That means that, for moderate focal length systems, guiding corrections every second or so are necessary. This shouldn't be a problem with a short focal length guide-scope, or an off-axis guider on a short/moderate focal length system, however finding guide starts that a bright enough for 1 second exposures with long focal length systems may prove to be more of a challenge. So, IMHO, harmonic mounts may take over the market for applications such as short/moderate focal length astrophotography & travel rigs, but may not do so with longer focal length systems....at least not in the immediate future (perhaps when harmonic mounts with quality encoders become more affordable).
Congrats on the new mount! I can't wait to see it running in the field.
Really looks like a super mount, and so portable too - wow! :-D Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it soon!
Here's hoping it does a great job for you. I am likely going to order one as soon as I read reviews about its capabilities. Going mobile is my target area, public star party, visiting family, those types of things.
Very interested in your opinion after you use it a few times - clear skies đ
Enjoy and clear skies, just turned mine on and need to do better cable management.
Many hours of fun ahead of you. Use it well.
congrats. got one myself last week. getting
Wow excellent guiding, awesome!
Interesting mount and as a time saver no need to balance either axis (couldnât if you wanted - no clutch) will really speed up setup.
Canât wait for the full review. Definite curbside appeal though!
Hope you enjoy your mount. I got mine last week and have managed to do one session with it, and I am glad to say it worked a dream. Guiding was great and I had nice round stars (I was only doing 120s exposures on my DSLR). Everything seemed to work. Super happy.
Awesome, glad to hear!
Hi Jonathan. How short were the exposures taken by your guide camera? From everything I have read/seen, the mount has a lot of PE, so very frequent guiding corrections are a necessity.
@@derekbaker3279 I was playing around with 0.5 seconds and 1 second, with mid gain as was imaging in Bortle 8 sky. With these exposure settings I couldnât really see a difference. I was also playing with the aggression settings and had both on 60%, but to be honest I donât really know what they do as this was my first time guiding on a proper mount - had a star tracker up to now. Looking at a image I took of my ASIAIR app, I was getting RA at 0.39â, DEC 0.26â, Total 0.47â (is this good, I donât know to be honest). My PA could have been better, I think I was in the 2â circle but I was as in too much of a hurry to start as it was getting late.
@jonathanpearceff how long was it from order to delivery?
@@hammock753 I must of hit an order sweet spot. Ordered on 7th August, arrived 24th august.
Sweet setup! Canât wait for the full review. How long did you have to wait on that mount once you ordered it?
nice one
ZMO? Interesting...lol Awesome video as always. Id love one of this lil guys.
I must have typed it while upside down đ Fixed, thanks!
Oh wow good things I've heard about these
super cool! When the preorder came out, I was either going to order it or the RASA 8. 2nd guess myself sometimes, but Im super happy with the RASA 8 so far! cant wait to see how it works for you
Nice, I've had a RASA 8 for a while but it came with insane tilt issues so I still haven't made a single video about it...
@@GalacticHunter oh thats too bad! Mine was from the batch with the mirror defect! Tilt and collimation are great though. I printed a step down ring to correct the mirror and with the 533mc it works great. Its still imaging at F/2.2 even with the ring, and Im ok with that
Thank you ! You saved me a lot of money. I was thinking of getting this mount but itâs too short and doesnât not rotate on its own ? Wow !
What where those two screws for that you took off the bottom of the mount?
Nice mount... the pouch could also take a small weight to steady the set up
Always find an excuse to buy a new mount/telescope đ!!!
How long did you have to wait to get it? I ordered in august, and am still waiting.
Can you fit a C11 on that AM5?
Salut Antoine.
How do you balance the mount if you cannot unlock the RA & Dec?
You donât need to balance the mount, thatâs another huge advantage of the harmonic drives. In my experience, you should still do a rough balancing in the DEC axis for the sake of stability, but even this is not strictly necessary.
Hi guys, you think i should trade in/sell my CEM40, wanted to go up scope size like a RASA or 8 inch Edge?
How to take flats with a white t-shirt light on the top method? should we change to alt-azimuth mode?
You can just use the ASIAir or the laptop slew controls to slew the mount to the Zenith
â@@GalacticHunter Thank you. I've another question as well. I don't have north view at all, hence I kept my AM5 towards true north and want to try ASIAir All Sky Polar alignment. So, to make the scope pointing south, Should I use hand controller and slew scope towards south or use ASIAir sky atlas to select some object from south(Before PA will it be fine?). I'm little confused, any reply can very helpful,
Hope you make a video showing it in action
Definitely!
