- Julian Alaphilippe - There will be no pro cyclist like him, with a diet of wine, beer and whiskey to win races like Milano Sanremo, the cycling world championship, stages in the Tour de France and almost more money than the undoped Remco Evenepoel or Kuurne Bruxelles Kuurne 2024 winner Wout Van Aert. Unfortunately, his lifestyle with Marion Rousse has been criticized by his boss Patrick Lefevere, who has said it is normal that the performance of his once pampered cyclist is now little more than pitiful. Alaphilippe ate at the table of the Jonas Vingegaard O Gran Camiño 2024, Mathieu Van der Poel, Juan Ayuso 2024 or Wout Van Aert Kuurne 2024. But now he is just another outlaw, not like Tom Boonen or Frank Vandenbroucke .

One of my favorite cyclists. Sorry to hear that he has been having personal issues. Recent problems aside, Julian always raced very hard and was a joy to watch. World champion not all that long ago and the way he won that was how he approached it every time I saw him. Respect for him as he didn't try to play games or get lucky; he left everything out there.

Lefevere's comments were toxic and entirely out of line, and this video does little more than pedal in gossip. If Alaphilippe really struggles with addiction issues he should be offered support, not ridiculed publicly. Shame on you.
The addiction problems were between 2021 and 2022, not now. Lefevere said that because he can. He's an alcoholic, why he would lie about this?

Well ...no. What you all probably don't know is that the vast majority of cycling is getting more fit, and though you obviously need to train to do that, you don't actually get more fit unless you *recover* from the training.
What does alcohol do? It absolutely destroys your body's ability to recover, especially from training.
So, you can do all the right training, have all the right talent/genetics, but if you drink more than a tiny amount, less talented people will blow you our of the water if they train *and* recover properly.
So, a team owner doesn't need to recover, but a rider does.
So, yes, Patrick can drink, but Julian really can't.
