  • This Kamov Ka-26 belongs to Urbán Kft.’s aviation fleet. It used for agricultural flights around the countryside of Szekszárd.
It stations at Őcsény airfield or Gyönk.
This Kamov Ka-26 came from Ukraine in 2012 where she was operated in Borodyanka airfield.
The team had a lot of fertilizer work in Southern Hungary during spring. Since that they did not need the chopper, so it stationed in a farm near Kislippó.
After we finished the preparation tasks of the chopper, came the very very smoky cold engine start. They engines started little bit hard, they needed a lot of compressed air, but after that, the chopper operated perfectly.
My pilot friend, Gergő Urbán, did the engine test and than they were ready to fly back to Őcsény airfield.
After the take off he did test of the flight controls, then flew away.

Possibly the best video ever offered on CZcams. What we see here, depending on how long this beautiful old bird has been sitting, is probably the result of 200-plus combined hours of work before attempting flight: checking, inspecting, adjusting, cleaning fuel tanks and lines, removing water, lubricating all moving parts, etc. Many probably believe the abundance of smoke at start-up is due to extremely worn piston rings and/or valvetrain components. Nahhh... very, very likely these gentlemen wisely, correctly and painstakingly pulled all her spark plugs out and squirted some oil into each cylinder shortly before start-up
(highly recommended before attempting to start any engine which has sat for a long time.)
Hearing an old engine come back to life after sitting for years is Gothic. Recently experienced that starting up my 87 Radian which had sat for 31 years. The sound, smell and sight was absolutely intoxicating.

Wrong. The white vapor at the starr may be just condensation due to the engine being left unused for too long, but excessive smoke means you have a problem with your fuel or oil seals that may lead to overheating and catastrophic failure of your engine.

No.. muscle car engines are crap for helicopters. Heavy, failure prone, not reliable.
You’ll never find a liquid cooled engine with a cast iron block in a helicopter-ever. Not even back in the 30s and 40s when they made the first ones.
