I spent a summer at ski camp in Zermatt eons ago. I remember skiing over the same terrain every day and, over time, a crevasse would open up. So, ski carefully! I also recall getting on a T-bar on the Swiss side and it was well-maintained with the attendant there to help people. Then, I went to the Italian side. The lift attendant was sitting in a lounge chair and when I took the T-bar in my hand, it fell off. He just shrugged his shoulders and smiled. Even if you can't see the border between the two countries., you know where it is. A great experience!

I went in Feb 2017, a brilliant all round skiing area. Zermatt was just stunning. Would love to go back.

Cheers for the upload! How icy does it get? Seemed like nr 7 on the Cervinia side was quite hard and icy?

Indeed it can be really hard and icy early in the morning. It gets softer in the course of the day.

Great vid. Its very unusual for the Italian number 7 to be opened this time of the year right?

Well, it's included in the "summer skiing area" but indeed it's usually first to close.

I can't decide if summer skiing is really worth it. What do you think?

Is it possible to get from Cervinia to Matterhorn Glacier using Lifts (piste 85,82) in mid July? Would it make sense to book a hotel on Italien side?

      Unfortunately I don’t know

We stayed in Cervinia right when the mountain opened for ski season last year. In the days before the Italian side opened, people would take their skis up from Cervinia to Plateau Rosa, then ski down from there to Trockner Steg on the Zermatt/Swiss side. Then you take the 03 gondola from Trockner Steg up to the top of the glacier. Then ski down to Plateau Rosa to get back to the Italian side. That is essentially the glacier area for summer skiing. So, while this is eminently doable, the issue is that sometimes they shut down the gondola from Trockner Steg due to high winds. If that happens, you’re stuck on the Swiss side and cannot get back to Cervinia. Heard stories of the $600-800 (4 hr) cab rides back to Italy. Don’t know if they are entirely true, but the drive is that long, as there is no direct way - gotta drive around the mountain. We spent a day doing it and it was a blast. Great outdoor bar at Trockner Steg with perfect views of the Matterhorn. Order an Aperol Spritz and lay out in the sun and snow.
Note: Run 7 on the Italian side wasn’t even open on opening day, but we did get to go down 6 to Plan Maison.

@@bmac7453 many thanks! Yes I also learned from locals, thar Cervinia is not an option for summer skiing, but it is planned to open a new lift next year, than it will be a good option 😀
