This is a STRONG contender for least expected crossover of all time and I’m 1000% here for it
serj and rainn have been friends for years, they have a bunch of conversations all over the internet
Wow! So nicely put. Did it have you dyyyyying bruh but here for it?
@@junglefatigue That's hot.
A big enough fan of Serj or of Rainn, would have known this crossover has happened a long time ago.

"I can meditate for a lifetime in 1 second"
“False. Unless you’re referencing the life of a Mayfly… even then, they live for at least 2 hours in most cases”

It's much nicer listening to a podcast that is courteous and concerned about interrupting inr another. This was the most polite conversation I've heard recently. Thank you brothers!
Idk bro. Dwight was interrupting a lot.
I can’t believe Toxicity is over 20 years old. It’s such a unique and iconic album. Feels timeless
Not only a top tier guest, but a top tier conversation. This is amazing.
You don't have type "top tier". Just say it's good. 😂

The sound of System of a Down, Serj's voice, was a big part of me growing up
Back in 99 to 2001, I was in kindergarden and first grade, linkin park and then system were the first bands I ever heard and got into. My parents and uncle gave me there albums and I was automatically hooked since day one!!!
Serj is such a wonder. I remember being 16 in 2006 and living in Auckland city, always seeing some guy that looked like Serj only to find out that he was in town that summer. He even stopped by the coffee shop my sister was working at because someone told him she was an enthusiast. Such a stand up guy. If only we could all be a little more like him. Buying his book now ❤
That's a cool story.
'90 for the win 😉
"Describe the place between the sacred silence and sleep". What a wonderful conversation. I LOVE SERJ and SOAD's MUSIC!
I appreciate Serj’s candid response about not having much hope. I think most people feel that way at times and talking openly about those fears, and even having a laugh about it, can be liberating. Saying I feel hopeless about humanity and then having a human empathize and level with you is actually helping to displace that feeling of hopelessness, because it’s proving it wrong. I often feel like we are doomed but I’m at a point in my life and journey where I think that even if that is true, I can look back on my role on this planet and be proud. I can look at my kids and think that they are good people who are making positive impacts in their circles. We can’t save the whole world, but we can serve our friends and our families and our communities and if everyone lived that way the world would be saved. Not everyone does, but that is outside of our reach of influence. Fixating on things outside of your control takes you away from making positive changes within your realm of control 🖤
Tldr?

Ehhhhhh I disagree. But that’s the good thing about opinions.. Everyone’s is different
Rainn, I’m a clinical psychologist and my father and grandfather were academics and philosophers so I enjoy this kind of chat to begin with, but I’m also a long time office fan and drummer who always found SOTD to be the most enjoyable to jam out to.
What I’m trying to say in this ramble is holy shit is this a godsend of a video. So thank you, friend!!!

@@alanbique System Of A Down.
@@alanbiquehe clearly misspelled the acronym.
@@leedsdrumacademyI thought they were called Down With The System for about a year straight when Toxicity came out because a friend miswrote it on the disc they gave me….
Serj is a prime example of what I call a "Rock Star Intuitive" - someone deeply in-tune with their intuition who exhibits wizard level creative ability in everything they do - I am a Musician / Fan of both these guys too, wonderful discussion
When I attended college I took anthropology as an elective. At the end of our semester we had to pick a genocide to do a research paper on and everyone in the class had to pick a different event. Had i not been a fan of Serj and system I would have never known the Armenian genocide ever took place. I was the only person in the class that wanted to cover the topic. The most shocking part of the Armenian genocide is how well the crimes were swept under the rug and disregarded by history as time continued to pass. Serj and system are one of the only voices that were able to expose these issues on a global scale, and I have such huge respect for them for using their image for Justice and positive change. Excellent interview with awesome people.
Did you read what Hınchak and Tashnaks started systematic and backed cleansing towards Turks starting from villages and it was a part of the occupational forces project to destroy Turks from Asia Minor? Then when government interfere toward those Armenian gangs it started to be called “genocide” after years with the intervention of western lobbies. Turks didn’t do anything to Armenian population on the contrary gave them privileges and exemptions during their powerful times and suddenly while collapsing killed them. Someone have avarage rationality can ser how bad is that scenerio even. You write your own lies and started to believe them…
Honestly, knowing Rainn even KNOWS who Serj is just made me respect him soooooo much more. Incredibly based.
Rainn had this show a while back where he did interviews in a truck or something but he had serj on then and I thought the same thing. He's a big system fan
They’ve known each other at least since this interview 11 years ago:

I love Serj's calmness. Being a fan of both of these guys and seeing them together is such a blessing. It was such a pleasure to witness this conversation.
Does anyone else feel that Serj's voice and sense of humor remind of Will Ferrell? Such a lovely and lively conversation.
2 seconds in and yes. He kind of looks like him too now that I'm comparing them
There is a train station in São Paulo named after Armenian immigrants since 1985. What a legend Serj is, amazing human!
I've wanted to know more about serj and system for a long time. Rainn your show is fantastic. I love it. This was gem of an episode. Historical.
OH MY GOSH! One of my favorite musical artists, Serj! I am only a few minutes in and this is already such a beautiful conversation. ❤❤❤ Another great episode, Rainn!

Twenty something years ago I was hanging out with a friend which I grew up with, he had this Sony discman which was a big hit at the time, his older brother was into heavier music and arts and my highlight of the day was hanging around at his house and being in awe by all the figurines, posters, and many other artsy stuff in his room, one day I see my friend with his discman out in the neighborhood listening and I say "whats up bro" , he's like you gotta listen to this band bro. He gave me the discman for a half an hour, inside was the album toxicity, instantly I was in love, awe, rage, and 1000 feelings I couldn't explain as I was so young and misinformed about the world, music and art. Every day I would borrow the discman as I really didn't have any money to purchase my own. I was falling asleep with Toxicity and Steal this album, I was drawn into the being and music by SOAD, one day I decided I wanted to sing like Serj and learned all the lyrics from those albums but it was really challenging to copy that amazing voice of yours Serj, I did my best and while hanging around the city park where all the metalheads, punks, and skinheads were hanging around I was playing and constantly singing SOAD songs and me and my friend were known for being the SOAD fanboys, later I started a band and was the singer in the band and my friend became the drummer, SOAD connected us and was the main reason to become artistic, listening to Johns drumming later got me into drumming and I was literally learning every song from SOAD on the drums and became a drummer, many years and bands later I'm still a drummer but I never stopped singing, screaming and expressing myself artistically, YOU and YOUR music are the main reason for me becoming what I am today, I still listen to your albums and all of your solo music and albums and take myself back to those simpler times as a kid. I never been to any concerts as we grew up in a small and poor country on the Balkans. I never watched my favorite band of all times Live and I'm ashamed by that.
Rainn Wilson, when I first watched THE OFFICE, I immediately fell in love with your character and that type of humor is the most honest, brutally sincere and amazing for me,
I play THE OFFICE almost everyday and laugh my ass off. I can't believe I get to watch this podcast with two of the people I respect and are one of the greatest artist of our generation.
It was the easiest subscribe and like of my life and Hope to see more of this and more of both of you.
MAD RESPECT for both of you and this great content you've created and are still creating.
NEVER STOP.
MAD RESPECT.
HOPE DIES LAST.
I almost cried reading your comment. Those two really are geat human beings
"Prison Song", "Deer Dance", "Mind", "Know", "Soil", "Toxicity", "Honey" and "Friik" will always be my favourite SOAD songs ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
These are some of my all time favorite SOAD songs too and I also really love their cover of The Metro 👌
It’s so reassuring hearing Serj talk about how he would “binge and purge on music” when he was in his formative years as an artist. That is exactly what I experience as well. I will go through a few months of heavily listening to dnb, to a few months of black metal to a few months of hip-hop, to a few months of folk music or industrial music. There is so much beauty in all styles of music and it is a shame to me that so many artists paint themselves into such a small corner when there is so much to discover and draw from within every style. I thinks that’s part of why I gravitate so strongly towards bands like SOAD, Dir En Grey and Ulver.
I could listen to Serj talk all day, very articulate, very calm and understanding, very just comforting.
One of the most genuine, beautiful conversation I've ever heard.
You need to meet more people man. Real people. This whole going back and correcting all the wrongs in the past that they did doesn’t make them any less more of a famous and rich person because podcasts are cool now. That’s what therapy is for. Keep it there.
Serj is such a strong and respectable man. He's been outspoken on a lot of serious issues since the beginning. Bless this man.
The ending is a little disheartening. I relate to this man on so many things and he ends it with "I'm not hopeful. We need alien intervention."
Sigh. Pretty much where I'm at.
Incredible to see both of these gentlemen together. Never clicked a link so fast in my entire life.
💯
Totally, I saw a short of the interview and came directly to see the complete video xD
Serj is not just a really cool guy...He is a gift. Thanks.
Such a powerful & spiritually freeing episode. I'm proud so say growing up with SOAD at a young age, opened me up to being spiritual. Despite growing up in the bible belt & being criticized for being different.
Now at almost 30, I can appreciate learning & practicing other beliefs.
Thank you Serj, Daron, Shavo & John for years of great meaningful music. And to you Rainn Wilson for giving these creators a space to freely Express their human experiences 🖤🖤🖤
Hello from Hanoi, Vietnam. This whole conversation was soul-immersing for me, but the part Rainn spoke up about Hollywood’s hypocrisy hit me the most. I started learning more and more about history and politics after the exposure to real-time horrors from all different parts of the world. Coming from a place also with a long history of struggle, I feel like this whole time I’ve been restricted to only care for “my people” or not care at all. Instead, celebrity worshiping was a real thing and before we know, so many of them are not good people. We are so exclusive in our compassion, always weary of betrayal but never take the time to dig deep and analyse the question “Why”. Although it’s due time for the research because we have to push for actions and not just thought, many people still don’t start at step 1.
Never clicked so fast!! I've listened to SOAD almost every day for the past 20+ years, even more so recently feeling angry at the world. It's so cathartic. Serj's honesty, wit and genius is incomparable! Hope to see them live in the UK one day
Serj is such a scholar and a sage. You wouldn't expect it if you just listen to SOAD as it is, but it's another case of creativity being an outlet for all kinds of madnesses that when expressed leave you peaceful and true.
“I had to go to the far end of who I don’t want to be for me to realize to myself who I am!” I feel that in my soul!!
Out of anyone, I didn't think you would have my dream guest.
S.O.A.D. has been a staple of my life since childhood because of my mom. Brother Serj is spot on. Every moment of life is a meditation.
What a beautiful human being. It's rare that someone who astounds with their singing can mesmerise even more in conversation. Thank you both for letting us experience this with you.
Rainn Wilson is a deeper person than anyone could have imagined, usually actors are a bit of a shell but goddamn he really is a unique human.

Serj - my first healing love ❤❤🇵🇸🇵🇸
I love how this podcast blends art, spirituality and personal journeys so smoothly. All in a casual and fun but at the same time deep conversation. Thank you for this! 🫶🏻
YES! Thank you 🙌
There's so much in this conversation that echoes the thoughts that spin through my head. Examples: What is the point of war, genocide? Why are humans so greedy? I am not hopeful (that humans will be able to change before the point of no return is reached and we cause our own extinction). It is a great conversation that outlines a scepticism that so many of us feel when it comes to hope. Personally, I see a serious attention-deficit syndrome among humans. We see the terrible things that humans do to each other and scream....for a second, or a minute...and we lack focus of speaking very long about it. We don't want to see this bad situation for what it is because if we think about it too much, we risk our own sanity or ability to lose all hope that humans can change. But we have to speak about these things with the hope that these words are heard and that some kind of change will happen. If we keep quiet, then how will change happen?
All I can do at this point is keep repeating the mantra "Peace, Love and comfort to all humans", and hope that this will calm the troubled souls of my fellow human animals.
I appreciate these conversations and the fact that I can hear these words of compassion and empathy for other humans, that I, too, carry with me and send out to the universe, hoping for a change. Peace, Love and comfort to all humans. You are important to me, you have great power and light within you. Let other humans know this and that they carry these gifts too.
Serj needs to come back at some point this was one of the best podcasts I've heard in a while

So many gems just casually dropped in this episode, how beautiful! Serj seems effortlessly tactful, diplomatic, and wise.
S.O.D blew my mind at 12 in the early 00's, and watered the seeds of resistance, justice, and love for humanity in me. Soul Boom has been an oasis in recent weeks, watering those now deep roots. So glad to see this!
I just watched this podcast, and I'm like, wow! They're just speaking my mind and thoughts!💥
I wish and hope more people realize and care about what's happening around and what we are doing to ourselves, and the whole universe, as one, and how every single of our actions even small have very massive impact on everything, and what we are doing is doing to ourselves, because everything is one. That would make the world better

AMEN!
When I was in 8th grade we got an English assignment to read (or sing for extra credit) a song in front of the class and talk about the what the lyrics meant to us. I was in a fairly affluent/upper middle class kind of school and I chose “Prison Song.” I didn’t really understand then what it meant, but I knew it was heavy in more than a sonic sense. Even more than that, though, I knew it was TRUE. Some part of me was able to FEEL the RESONANCE of TRUTH. SOAD is one of the most important bands to ever exist. Thank you so much for this!!!
