Such a powerful & spiritually freeing episode. I'm proud so say growing up with SOAD at a young age, opened me up to being spiritual. Despite growing up in the bible belt & being criticized for being different. Now at almost 30, I can appreciate learning & practicing other beliefs. Heroin and cocaine are not ‘plant medicine’. Poppy and coca leaves ARE plant medicine. When you chemically bastardize something into a single molecule of purity, it’s now a drug. Poppy tea and coca tea are consumed the world over with little to no detriment.

To say that you hate the word plant medicine because of other plants who produce heroine,cocaïne,... is stupid because most of western medicine is based of plants...and yes not all plants are ok if you use them in the wrong way Medicine can become poison and poison can become medicine....even water can kill you if you drink to much or when you drown Overuse or inbalance are the issue mostly

I can't speak from any experience. Weed didn't do anything for me (zero effect) and I haven't tried anything else. Just listening to others, it seems more shutting down than enhancing/activating. Like tuning to remove the static from physical processes and mental chaos. Meditation, fasting, light deprivation, unconsciousness and death are all shutting off processes. What's left? Awareness? Observation? Reality?

Damn. I interpreted the "somewhere between the sacred silence and sleep" as a metaphor for the time that you are alive. The sacred silence was before you were born, and sleep is the eternal rest after your die, so to speak. And what happens in between is the "disorder" and chaos of your life. Boy was I wrong haha

According to our Sufi understanding, worship is "integration with existence and realizing the unity" (i.e. tawheed)... Comprehending that there is no separation in existence...People who do these drugs get to observe this phenomenon temporarily but they dont truly experience it in a permanent or stable manner. You need to be humble, join a spiritual path under the guidance of a true sufi master and work on your ego, and pass through stages as you mature. Everything else is temporary, partial and incomplete.

I can't wait to read this! I myself I live to encourage family and friends that struggle with mental illness and depression. I have been through so much tragedy but I had my faith in my God and creator. I have always wanted to be a motivational speaker but wound up a Southern Gospel singer in a trio with my late husband as well as my oldest Stepson who passed not long after. I feel that they would want me to carry on. I have always hoped to give them the spark that lives in me. But back to your book. There is such a need for this. Thank you for sharing this and I so look forward to watching your podcasts

One problem that includes all problems and one answer that includes all answers … I am totally convinced that the only roadblock between me and you and my God is the human ego. The only roadblock there is. I further believe that the best definition you’ll ever hear of the human ego, “the feeling of conscious separation from”. From what, from everything. From God (I like these three words: Life, Good, God, which to me are synonymous words). Conscious separation from God, from each other, and eventually from ourselves … And that’s the human ego the seat of all obsessions of the mind. That’s where they come from. It is also my total conviction that there is no possibility under Heaven to satisfy the human ego. The Answer: I think maybe if we listened , we sort of established the fact that our problem actually is a living problem and we have to have a living answer. Walking alone is not normal; is not natural. Most of us walked alone for most of our lives. I walked alone for forty-three years, wanting so badly to be a part of , and always apart from. I have all the emotions about this ...the whole convo was so good.. couldnt believe nobody never asked Serj what the "Sacred Silence" means. Rainn you won on the 1st question.

If you still project your beliefs onto reality, you have not even begun an “enlightenment” process. That’s the same archaic operating system we have had for over 4,000 years. If you consider aligning yourself with the same collective projections as archaic humans, (regardless of the terminology you favor) “enlightenment”. You have almost zero awareness.

This band meant everything to me in my teenage years. Still listen to them all the time. Such a shame that they couldn't straighten out their differences. I can't knock Serj for simply wanting to take a little time off to enjoy his personal life. At least we were able to get five great albums to enjoy.
