JX3 HYBRID and DRT CLIMBING method: Switch from treestands to SADDLE HUNTING (Swamp N Stomp ep. #68)

- Danny is trying a new tool in his hunting arsenal. He will be using the JX3 Outdoors Hybrid saddle rather than his traditional climber tree stand. After trying a DIY sit-drag saddle Danny decided that he needed something more comfortable and suitable for his style of hunting. After contemplating the Tethrd Mantis and Phantom, the Aerohunter Kestrel and a number of other tree saddles, he settled on the JX3 Hybrid because of its similarity to a treestand. The Double Rope Technique is also an excellent way to compliment the lightweight run and gun style of hunting that saddle hunting promotes. Follow along as he transitions to using this new tool along with the DRT climbing method.

Swamp N Stomp is a channel or vlog, whatever you want to call it, dedicated to helping the hunting community grow, specifically in Florida. Studies show that the majority of modern hunters had family members who raised them as hunters, and a large portion of non-hunters want to hunt but don't know where to start. By documenting our hunting adventures, making instructional or tutorial videos, and really anything-hunting-related videos, we hope to help bridge that gap by providing practical information for beginner and experienced hunters on how to become a better and more ethical hunter. Click that subscribe button and join us for the ride! Thanks for watching!

I came to see the saddle but I think watching your simple climbing method was the best part of this video. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks. Good video. Interested in that exact setup. So it was good to see it in action.
This particular setup is my JX3 and I was using the DRT ( double rope technique) climbing method I am currently using the Aerohunter Merlin with SRT climbing method ( single Rope technique). -Danny
That’s sweet man I’m gonna have to get a saddle soon... or a tree stand... I don’t have either yet lol
Damn that's awesome!
Think I messed up using the foot loop because I had to essentially pull my self up by my arms 😂
Definitely wanna make sure you use your legs 😂
I use my climbing line as my tether
Climbing hooks makes it a lil easier and safer in my opinion. But with saddle hunting a platform, ring of steps or screw steps is a must without it you don't have any mobility to make a shot.
Platform or ring of steps is a must I just haven’t gotten either yet. I hunt public land so spikes are out of the question. -Danny
Looks Kool but don't think I'll ever change from my Summit trees climber. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.
I agree that’s why I’m keeping my summit. The saddle is just another tool
In the chest. -Danny
@@SwampNStomp I hunt the same places you do. Good luck Danny.
Same to you! If you harvest anything send us a pic will post it and give you a shoutout. IG is in the description.
@@SwampNStomp A better tool.
That adjustable bridge is sweet I’m gonna have to figure out something like that for my jx3. I love it but I do think the bridge is a little large I don’t need that much space
How do you clean the JX3? I used mine for four days last week hunting and it stinks! I noticed the black screw heads are rusting just from dew and moisture in the air. No scent spray didn't help...
You could use some lite soapy water on a rag and just scrub it down. Then hose it off and hang to dry. It’s mostly synthetic material so you ain’t gonna buy it. -Danny
@@SwampNStomp Thanks Danny!
Dam brother stay safe what if that limb were to break wile your pulling yourself up
Thanks bud! There’s always risk involved when climbing trees. This method has been used by arborist for years. It’s important to put the rope in the wedge between the branch and the main part of the tree. That way you are not putting the weight far out on the limb. Also consider the diameter of the branch.
Please dont use that technique on pine trees!
Hes girth crotches into the tree. That would literally hold up a truck
The more I research the JX3 the more I like it. Going to get one but I'll be using my hawk heliums drt seems a bit much for me.
I've rope mod on my sticks I'll bet you it's silent other than the initial set to take out the slack. Which I'd venture to say is comparable to the friction noise of the ropes sliding
I don't think I would trust a pine tree branch. I have been using hawk helium, predator platform, and tethered mantis. I have shikar sticks on the way. I dont think I would go back to a climber.
Yea some pine trees can be sketchy. You definitely wanna use your best judgment when selecting a tree to climb. For this video purposes I only had a few to select from in my yard. I would have selected this tree had I seen it out in the field as well. The branch crotch that I was climbing was easily as thick as my leg.
I don't think I would have the confidence hanging from a small tree limb like that maybe it safe I wouldn't haave the confidence to it
It looks a bit sketchy but I’m not actually hanging from the limb. I’m
Hanging from the wedge between the limb and the main part of the tree. It’s critical to get in the wedge. -Danny
do you use a bow in that? or just a gun? I'd get a climbing descender instead of a friction knot tho. Thanks for the video
Both. Check out the Florida 8pt I took earlier this season and the Kentucky 8pt I took a few weeks after. Both from this saddle. We have since switched to the Aero Hunter saddles. If you decide to get one. Use Swamp10 for 10% off. Thanks for checking us out. -Danny
@@SwampNStomp Hey Danny - the coupon code Swamp10 isn't working? is it spelled correct?
@@patrickpk6299 checking right now.
@@patrickpk6299 I just tried it on my phone and it worked. Make sure you click the use coupon code box.
If it doesn’t work text me at 9542131329 I’ll get it squared away for you. -Danny
@@patrickpk6299 also make sure your on the www.Aerohunter.us site the code isn’t for JX3.
Are you using static or dynamic line?
We use Samson predator, which is not completely static but has very little stretch. That little bit of stretch is nice when your girth hitch slips and readjusts on your way up causing you to fall a few inches, the stretch absorbs the impact very well. -Mark
@@SwampNStomp Thanks Mark.
What length of rope are you
using..Thanks
I’m running an 80’ piece for my Drt and 30’ for my SRT. -Danny
