Malifaux deserves more love, it’s amazing. I genuinely think it has the best rule set for a miniatures game. And it’s coming back in my community! I remember getting into it back in 2016 and the game was totally dead, nobody played. Now there’s a group that plays every weekend at my local CO store! Stock is still a bit hard to find but the models are worth it

Also of note is that all the rules for Malifaux are free. There is a free app that includes all the rules for core game, the various scenarios and all the cards for the crews. It also updates as the errata comes out and there is a built-in army builder.

I started to collect Malifaux stuff with the first edition but the all metal minis were a nightmare to build and way beyond my skillset at the time so I gave up on it, although I always loved the style. A few years back I picked up TTConmbat's Carnevale after getting a free mini on the cover of a magazine and the quality (and to some extent style)gave me Malifaux vibes. My first box was the Romani Caravan from the Strigoi Faction and I was so proud of the paint job I did on these (lots of bangles, crystal balls and tarot) - unfortunately they got lost in a house move along with the Funeral Gondola. I currently have the 2 starter sets waiting to be painted or built and painted and 2 boxes of Strigoi. The cheaper of the 2 starter sets comes with everything you need to start playing - 2 factions, Paper mat, card buildings dice rules and more and you can pick up a copy for around £30 in the UK. Double this to around £60 and you gat double the figures (all different from the other starter set) -more buildings, acrylic markers and tokens, the full size rule book with beautiful art and lore and 9 double sided game tiles to allow different city layouts. Game play wise there is also the element of parkour built into it so you can leap between buildings and drop onto an enemy from above. New figures are arriving all the time and last year saw the first expansion which now includes seafaring and ships. Still have no-one to play with though!

I played Malifaux when it first came out back in the early 2010's and had a lot of fun with it, but stopped playing because it was too hard to find a game. I got back into it 2 years ago and the quality difference in the models absolutely blew me away. Everything is high-quality plastic and extremely detailed (almost TOO detailed) and the game is a blast to play. I built a Perdita Ortega crew and have been having a lot of fun with it.

They're not quite assembled and all painted, and they don't look as well as yours, but that doesn't mean it wasn't fun and relaxing to put together. The biggest issue is finding people to play with; it's very popular in England, but when you live in Central Texas...eh.

I picked up the blood bowl season 2 core set today, and also got the amazon team, and plan on getting a couple of their star players and big guys. There's something so endearing about the style of the game and how it doesn't take itself seriously. I feel like it's the sort of thing I can just pull out with friends and go through a quick game with minimal setup since you just have the pitch and your dugouts rather than needing to set up a whole board with terrain.

Great video as always, brother! I love your passion every time you talk about your hobbies in general, but it was punched up a notch for this. I get it. I'm the same way for Infinity from Corvus Belli. Been following it since 2005, when I came home from Iraq, and have never had anyone else to game it with. I keep trying to get friends and family to try, but they're either not interested or too stuck into their current games (usually GW). I've collected something like 7-8 armies for it, hoping to entice someone's interest. And now, I've found a love for Malifaux's green-skinned Bayou dwellers. And, like you, when I go into something I go all-in. Mah Tucket, Brewmaster and Captain Zipp core boxes each with one or two add-ons. Lots to paint, but also a ton of gaming options. Looking forward to seeing what my local meta is like!

Most strategic miniature game I ever played ... It's awesome !!!
That being said, a Core Box isn't enough to play a full game ... Full games are 50 soulstones while a core box has around 35SS ...
Best way to go about starting Malifaux is choosing a Keyword and buying everything from it and then start looking at Versatile models ...
Also, a crew is built after seeing which Strategy and Schemes you are playing and building the crew accordingly ...
Anyway, glad you discovered it, have fun !!! 😉

I love Malifaux! I have at least one crew for each of the eight factions, with some overlap as there are crews that are duel-faction; the only faction for which I only have one crew is Explorers Society. I have 20 different Masters, some of which are alternative models to the ones available in Core Boxes. My pile of shame is huge. And I have no one with whom to play regularly so my drive to reduce my pile of shame is low.
One of the reasons I love this game is the rule cards include all the information you need to play that character. This game is set up to allow proxies without issue. If you find a model you love from anywhere, all you need is to put it on the correct sized base as specified on a character rule card and you can use that beloved model as a proxy for that character.

I have quite a bit of Malifaux. I noticed it at the tail end of 1E and picked it up fully during 2E. I was just getting going when, due to not being able to find a job and my wife's declining health, we had to move. The city we were in had a thriving Malifaux community and the city I'm in now doesn't seem to have one. The model shops here sold off their malifaux on the cheap shortly after we moved here.
It's a pity, the models are gorgeous (the Viktoria's models are some of my favourite, and tons of the Ten Thunders models are incredible, like the Mei Feng box, the Kunoichi and Archers) and the game is fun and unique!

i would love to see a video on how you did those neverborn bases
i have been really on the fence about malifuax for a while now, i REALLY like a number of the models and teams
part of why i havent got into it yet is im utterly torn between a few of the teams/masters
urami is great, savage are all cool, fae are great (though i would want the alternate titania model, base titania is eh) cadmus are wonderfully creepy, frontier have a fantastic cowboys in the dust feel to them, the witch hunters are cool as hell, december and wilfdire are great, and last blossom and qi and gong are also fantastic
i genuinly cant really decide which ones i want, i THINK im mostly leaning towards savage and last blossom, but the one i most want basically switches every time i look at them
its weird, i dont get this with warhammer, with 40k and AoS i KNOW what armies i like the rest just arent as cool to me, but with malifaux i have real decision paralysis about getting into it, cos SO many of them look amazing
    also side note
your actually SUPPOSED to swap out your crew every game in malifaux, its part of the rules that you dont decide what "units" your taking until after you know what master your opponent is running, so if they are taking a resurectionist troup for isntance, its part of the rules you are SUPPOSED to tailer your list to deal with that specific strategy (take corpse removal)
if they are taking wildfire, tech in some burn immune guys to deal with it (they can also do the same to you)
your supposed to change your team every game

What sold me on them was there's a character who has one arm still in a straight jacket a bundle of dynamite and a pistol pointed at his head. It also has a little old lady in a steam powered wheelchair with a double barrel shotgun. I also have a crew that looks like the extras for a Shaw Brothers Kung Fu Epic from back in the seventies. Complete with several flavors of monks including drunken ones. One that's led by a zombie newspaper reporter, and another led by a guy who likes to experiment on dead bodies to make them better weapons and finally my first love in this setting a beautiful young woman who loves to have people for dinner usually roasted.

There's quite a lot of worldbuilding that has been done for the game. There are youtube channels totally dedicated tot he lore and the world. It's been around for 14 years, there are loads of stories and fiction, podcasts released constantly by Wyrd, and there is another game system that takes place Earth Side of The Breach as well as a pen and paper RPG system with loads of books that detail the settings and background. Many things from the RPG end up in the wargame. It's similar to how Warmachine and the Iron Kingdoms functioned with loads and loads of books and stories. An evolving plot centered around a cast of characters, and an RPG with loads of books and beastiaries that detail the world and background that the "camera lens" of the main narrative does no focus on.
You also didn't mention the app, which is, in my opinion, the best app any wargaming company has made for a game. There is a large and dedicated fanbase for this game that has been around for a while and there is loads of content already on youtube to teach new players about the game and how to start as well as one youtuber that focuses almost exclusively on the lore.
The game is very complicated, though, and the learning curve is extremely steep. Malifaux is designed as a competitive tournament style game, so the models, strategies, and combos are rather complicated and are meant to played competitively. It can be hard to learn everything that a single model can do without playing it multiple times, let alone everything an entire crew can do.

actually choosing two teams with options IS the way to better Malifaux play and options. Great words of wisdom to newbies

I've been dipping in and out of Malifaux since the beginning of 2nd edition. Its absolutly amazing!
I've just recently picked up the "Other Side" 2 player starter because its both MAlifaux and the other side.
For my my favoured factions are Neverborn & Ten Thunders.

I started with a Tara crew because her gameplay and aesthetic is a perfect match. Then I got Zipp, because who doesn't want to drop pianos on people? Then I thought, "I'm a journalist; Nellie and her friends dovetail well with that". Now every time I look there's someone new I want to try: Tiri (extreme Numenera vibes), Linh Ly (I'm a librarian these days), Jedza (a crew full of the cutest weird little guys!)...of course I don't have a problem, why are you looking at me like that.

Moonstone is that game for me. Beautiful minis and a fun casual game. Only downside is that they have no American distribution yet so you will have to order from overseas for any new releases for the game, but there are a few eBay sellers that have the goods without overseas shipping

What I like about malifaux is that the gangs are so varied.
Want to be a rootin' tootin' monster shootin' family? They've got that.
Want to be a kid who's having super-vivid dreams? They've got that.
Want to be Dr. Frankenstein but with less ethics somehow? They've got that.
Want to be a zombie who takes care of other zombies that partly remember their old lives? They've got that.
Want to be cyborg Teddy Roosevelt? You'd better believe they've got that.
Want to be a big muscle-bound soldier with guns and armour? Well you COULD play 40k, but malifaux has that too.
Want a fantastic phone app that includes every character and upgrade card in the game? They've got that as well.
Heck, pretty much the only thing I don't like about malifaux is how fiddly some of the miniatures are...I'm still not sure where Abuela's tiny pipe landed.
Before I found out about Malifaux, my only options were Warhammer...or Warhammer. To say it was eye-opening would be an understatement.

I would say Oathmark is my small scale game i fell in love with, I like that you can make your own army and kingdom and mix it up so you can have an army of elf and orc or humans and undead, plue it being mini agnostic means you can make your army using any mini you want

If you enjoy weird and unique skirmish games i recommend Carnevale y TTC Combat, battles over Venice cannals, with fighting comedy of theater characters, Assasin´s Creed style infiltrators, vampires and Innsmouth like abominations... o and also the Vatican itself, i consider it a Malifaux-alter universe since they also have a red color coded Guild that calls the shots.

I like Malifaux but I hate the newer plastic miniatures because they are a pain to assemble. I had most of the models available in 1st edition and really enjoyed it.
I’m also bummed that they got rid of Lilith.

Malifaux is the best skirmish game on the market. It's a gamer's game. I started playing around 2005. Was a Henchman for the company and even play tested the last 1st edition book and the 2nd edition core rules.

The game i fell in love with is the "A Song of Ice and Fire"- miniatures game from cmon
For me its the combination of the rich world GRRM has created and a flurry of more interesting systems (return of the regimentbases from warhammer fantasy + a more interactive activationsystem than warhammer 40k + the off the board tacticszones ...)
went all in with the second wave of factions and stuck with the Free Folk...
Though to admit my pile of shame is ridiculously large due to the horde nature of that faction and my inability to properly paint

I have zero clue where you're located, but if you're ever in the Toledo, OH area, the FLGS I frequent has a really big Malifaux scene. Like, a typical Malifaux night is a dozen-ish people playing and they do events.

If you like skirmishes with beautiful, true scale models, try Infinity by Corvus Belli. It's mix of Cyberpunk and Sci-Fi. Max 15 models on table (with some tiny exceptions), intresting lore, free, really clever, rules and fractions... Multiple Xenos, religious crusaders with power armours, literal Skynet before it went rogue, gangs, Weeb insurgents with ninjas and two-tone, stealthy suits, Space Pirates (my favourite), UN forces mixed with Judge Dreed and more. It;s definetly my favorite game and it's one of prettiest game.

Malifaux is super good. It is currently the only Mini game i play actively. I have huge amounts of 40k and WHFB in my cupboards gathering dust, but i just want to flip cards.
And i wanted to add that you don't need to get the book to try out the models, all the cards for models are available in a free phone app that is produced by Wyrd.

    I am a simple man - I see Malifaux, I like.
I'm in a similar situation to you, I think - I have been buying multiple crews and models of Malifaux, just because I am head-over-heels in love with the universe, the models and the game... Only, I don't have anyone to play it with, so the game is more of a "future scenario" kind of deal for me.
