I can’t believe how perfectly stated that is.
The TF2 intro goes so hard, the way the Heavy is perfectly animated and the music is so well made. Its a TF2 style take on the classic intro.
Makes me wish they used that kind of arrangement for the game's intro, even if they don't use the Heavy version of the Valve guy.
It was also at peak TF2 years before the silver age 2011-4 and the bronze age 2014-17
This predates the free to play Change too
That intro is fanmade @@lmahu6627
In case anyone's curious, the 1998 concept was basically a tech demo to demonstrate the innovative and highly advanced capabilities of the GoldSRC engine, such as particle systems, skeletal animations, and attaching entities to individual parts of an animated model. At the time, this was considered groundbreaking.
Valve also made a robot model back in the day with a staggering number of animated bones (for the time). This was a stress test that was meant to crash the engine, but it didn't.
Quake World
That robot is called Polyrobo.
I really like those facts that such games were revolutionary.
Even though I wasn't born in 90's, I still find it fascinating, even at 2023. After all, they were one of the people who made game industry from the scratch!
It was like 20 bones and 6000 polygons to show just how groundbreaking Half life was going to be.
And if you know anything about the games reputation on launch, yeah it was truly ground breaking.
It may be hard for you to believe but people used to use words like "photo realistic" when describing games like half life blowing the minds of people.
Finally a useful fucking comment that’s informative for once 🐐

I was absolutely *blown away* when I first launched up The Lab and was in this crazy sphere surrounded by copious amounts of valves. There's even one you can manipulate with your hands.

@@Oscar106Official I'm pretty sure it does absolutely nothing haha; just cosmetic!
"They faked the moon landing in 1969!!!"
CGI in 1998:
Video Games are actually produced differently to CGI effects. Video Games are designed to be rendered in real time, so games from the 90s (and possibly the 60s) had very primitive graphics that weren't very detailed. CGI, on the other hand, is designed to be rendered over a long period of time into a video file, so CGI films from the 90s can include more complex things without any detriment to performance. Visual effects back in the 60s were more practical, but even then I'd be hard to replicate the moon landing footage accurately with the materials and visual tricks they had at the time.
