For those wondering if it should be a GFCI, the answer is not necessarily. If it's connected to a GFCI breaker or there is already a GFCI on the same circuit, you don't need another one- it's redundant at that point. If there is no GFCI anywhere on the circuit, then yes, a GFCI is a good idea.

BTW, you're missing the kit-supplied outlet trim for the plug. And, given the X and Y axis janky-ness of that outlet, I'd caulk the heck out of that cover.

      Un-loosen? 😂😂, that means tighten.
Damn, who installed the original box, it’s so level!
Missing the proper inserts for the duplex receptacle.

There is a proper outlet insert for the shape and/or type of receptacle or switch that goes in the rectangular opening of the cover. You didn't use the right one for a duplex receptacle. You used the one for a GFCI. Just thought you should know.

I was wanting to do this to an outlet outside, but thought it was complicated as electricity scares me! Thanks so much for the video and tips!! Getting this done!

Awesome! Glad it helped! Yeah, it's much less scary when you know how to do it. Also, I didn't show in this video, make sure its water tight. Sometimes you'll have to apply caulking around the outside.

My electrical Outlet cover looks like the one in the Vid… when its closes it difficult to open

  • @iconforu2c

Out of curiosity (not criticism). Wouldn't the gap between the wall and the "Red Dot cover" just be an opening for water to enter? With the new cover sticking out more I would think more water might get between the gap. If the kit doesn't come with some type of expandable gasket for un-even surfaces I would rather just replace it with a proper one for the cost and a couple extra minutes of time for peace of mind.

  • @Dan-oz4qb

He got it done but it was pretty sloppy and doing it right isn't much harder. First shut off power. Caulk the back of the box for surface irregularities. Use the proper outlet cover, in this case duplex vs the gfci that was the default. Better yet use a gfci in this location.

my hubby mounted our outlets horizontally. no videos showing that. ours are in brick. we currently only have the metal cover with no slot for the cords. I have outdoor WYZE cameras that have a USB plug that plugs into a standard outlet on the house side. the other side is USB to camera. do you have any videos showing how to do horizontal mount? I'm not quite sure how to do it and he works tons of hours, so it's up to me.

I had one of these covers installed last fall. I went to use it today and could not get the cover to lift up. Is there some type of latch or lock preventing the cover to lift up. I did not put a lock on it. I didn’t want to force it open for fear of breaking it.
