NASCAR Heat: A Story of Low Expectations

  • The NASCAR Heat series has had some troubles for a while. But after the last 5 games seemingly glossing over them and the way that fans have also seemed to go along with it I think it is time for someone to address them.

theoriginalshew wow that’s disappointing to hear. i got heat 4 about 2 months ago and love it (haven’t played a nascar game since thunder series). i just don’t get why a.) the AI is coded to wreck you if they’re a “rival” and there’s no reward for having a high rep outside of sponsorships. and b.) there’s no presentation or anything that immerses you or brings the game to life. it’s all about details (correct trophies, caution replays, 100% authentic sponsor placements on custom cars) that bring the game to life.

If 704Games and Nascar truly wanted to produce content for an esports league that would SELL, they’d choose drivers with talent and the social awareness to be in front of a camera and know how to speak eloquently. Sorry to say representing a brand is all about image. And these guys, give off the most asinine image conceivable.

    These are my problems:
    - I don’t like how cars can’t retire from A race after a big wreck. If you wreck and cars get damage, those go to the garage. It seems really dumb for 40 or 39 cars to finish a race at Talladega.
Speaking of crashes. Why can’t you ever create a “big one”? At talladega or Daytona I only see like 3-4 cars going sideways, the cars should be able to create like a 8-9 wreck.
I want an option to retire from a race If im having a bad race and im Tired, pls give me the option to end.
During green flag pit stops, PLS FOR FUCKS SAKE make the cars give us a warning when they pit so we know to get out of the way,
Wrecks should happen from any car and not just me
I don’t the already custom paint schemes, let us design it different shapes and effects, not pre made
Weather should be added, rain, should be added to make it more intense, the yellow can come out for maybe 1-2 min then go green or under yellow, the checkered flag waves and its over.
Lastly, it’s ridiculous, but I would like to have an option to create your own customized schedule.

    A couple of things:
The NASCAR Heat Games were built using the Unity Engine. That engine is so cheap, you only have so much to go with it. NASCAR Heat 4/5 is basically the limit where Unity could have gone. The next installment on the PS5/XSX is allegedly going to be built on a brand new game engine made by Motorsport Games.
With that in mind, NASCAR Heat is usually released in September, Heat 5 came out now so that the developer can have more time with the new engine and make something that's not Heat Evolution.
I get it. You're upset, and your patience is running thin. But, I think time is our greatest ally in perfecting.

Keep in mind they’ve made 5 entries, and they still aren’t getting it. But yeah, you’re right about how they’re using a Unity engine and I hope Heat 6 makes tons of improvement and listen to fans. If not, so be it

As long as they keep most of the improvements that they've made up to this point, and keep getting better I think things will be looking up. I got Heat 5, and I know I'm still going to enjoy it anyways. It may not be perfect, but I don't mind waiting a little longer if it means we get a great game.

They gotta fix the bugs before they put out a new game. I'd rather have them release a finished game in November than release the same game from last year in July. Kind of like NTG:Inside Line, how that was released in November 2012, but had a 2013 season update in the spring.

Honestly Nascar should re think their whole approach when it comes to marketing through games.
    1. Pull the plug on the Heat series and start fresh with an established racing developer.
    2. Give another licence to a developer to make a game targeted towards the sim racing market - NR2003 is still being played and supported by modders to this day so the demand is there.
    3. Licence the cars out to the Gran Turismo and Forza series. They very popular cars in GT5/6 (especially online) and the exposure would be greater than what any Nascar game could achieve on its own.

I can say right around when heat 2 came out I was one of the 704 defenders, once the 4th game was released my patience had ran out
I only played 4 for online since I had made so many friends racing in online lobbies and that’s pretty much it. Im sorry but if it takes them 4 games to add simple feature like a damn track map, and 5 games to add private test sessions, then it would probably take them til the end of their contract to make a game that would be considered ‘kinda good’ if they follow the trend (I have my doubts)
Heat Evolution, 2, and 3 made all of the Eutechnyx games look like game of the year contenders and that’s saying something.

Well, I would have if the crashes worked in the game. I don’t get how you can send a car spinning into the main pack and have smoke and spinning cars everywhere but in the end only about 7 cars are involved, if that. On top of that, only the one I hit went to the pits for damage and the other cars just continued the whole race with smashed in bumpers. I hope ignition is good…

yes the games aren’t the best, there’s no doubt about it especially when you compare them to the early nascar games by EA. I’m not defending them but to be honest this is like pretty much every annual game that comes out: sucks, buggy and basically a copy and paste from last years. It’s basically become the norm for games now and it’s atrocious. At least 704 seems like they’re trying and seems like there might be some upgrades in the future, while ea and 2k basically ignore their communities and do just as much changes to their games as tiny 704 does. video games as a whole honestly have these issues and need to change
