I can totally relate. The last few years I went back to visit I was using the phrase "alms house business dat" and my childhood high school friends from the early 90s started laughing telling me lovingly that nobody used that expression anymore and also that younger people may not understand what I am saying. We had a good laugh. The expressions have changed for example during birthdays now I find modern Jamaicans wishing each other "happy earth strong." I have a hard time using the phrase because I have no idea where that came from. It didn't exist in my early 90s when I left there. Another expression is "ray taay taay". That one is new to me, too. Lol

I am a bit overwhelmed with all the foundation in Jamaica yet our early schools are forgotten.
