Back in the day, there were too many innocent bystanders injured in police chases so now they hang back as much as possible. Police used to be very aggressive in chasing, and there’d be huge crash endings (suspect vs regular driver). This is safer.
I'd rather the cops follow at a distance and wait for the driver to make a mistake instead of the cops being too aggressive and push the driver to drive worse.

"The charges include allegations of causing great bodily injury and prior convictions for assault with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm and carrying a concealed dirk or dagger with gang allegations in 2008, 2010 and 2013."

UK police use a device called the Stinger. The device is placed on the side of the road and its pulled across the road and a bed of hollow spikes will let the air out of the tyres slowly so it doesn’t cause a accident. The UK also have T Pack Teams that will send one Police car to go in front of the suspect vehicle then the next Police vehicle goes into the side position on the driver’s side to stop them to be able to use the driver’s side vehicle door and stops the offender trying to ramming its self free and then the last Police vehicle will block the suspects vehicle from the rear as this will stop the vehicle from trying to reverse out of the box and also to help with technical contact & this works really well and the T Pack Teams have stopped plenty of vehicle’s safely, but the UK doesn’t have the problems that gun control comes into play at some stage as in the U.S.A that does have a gang problems and just too many offenders can get hold of a gun. I do no know if this would be a safe option or not. Too many armed offenders willing to use a gun and so the officers could get shot at. But if the suspect is known to be able to get a weapon or carry a gun at all times . Another option used in the UK is to bring all the lanes to a stand too and this leaves the offender only one lane to use and that’s the emergency lane and so Police will be waiting in front of the wall of traffic and Sting it or it gives the officers a sterile area on the motorway for the Police to make a stop with no members of the public in the way and police will act accordingly then will start to make technical contact to bring the Police chase to its end. If you let this pursuit to keep going as it does others will also do the same, as you have mentioned the lady passenger could be a victim in all this or is she a willing just pretending or is she now a genuine hostage.
Stingers are just called Spike Strips here. And as for the traffic not being stopped, the state of California alone is almost 2x larger than the whole of the UK. it's interesting to think about how much things vary from country to country, and somehow yet completely the same. 😊
It just amazes me how the news reporters were talking about how when the driver was in the area where people were running out to see what happened, they were doing so probably because they were listening to everything that was going on and that’s how they knew what area the driver was in. Well, the reporter should also realize that the driver and “victim” were also probably listening to them as well and were getting tipped off to everything they were reporting….DUH!! Last June 2020 mine was stolen I was getting my ac serviced at my mechanics shop and it was stolen at 5:05am june 5th it was on camera and my mechanics insurance company fixed it because my car was in their possession at the time it happened. I was looking at $1,200 to get it fixed.

I wish the news media wouldn't make assumptions when following a pursuit like this such as here when the newscaster states that "at least they're not grappling like they were", and I'm thinking how do you know? (this is apparently a domestic violence situation)They have the same view we do and I can't see what they're doing so how can they? Seriously it's very frustrating. I understand they're doing their best to cover these incidents and I really appreciate that but it's already a stressful situation and that just adds to it and it makes me angry actually. Like I said the media tries but come on.....I just don't see why they have to do so much speculating because what's the point? It is confusing as well. And I am NOT one who is prone to criticism in situations like this because maybe there are things I don't know but this was just ridiculous. Thanks for reading. 🙄🙏
