Athens, GA - Visiting the musical landmarks of R.E.M and The B-52's

Today, we visit Athens, GA. This little town in Georgia is rich in musical history, spawning bands such as R.E.M., the B-52's, Drive-By Truckers and Widespread Panic.
We founds some landmarks that tie into the the history a few of these bands. Some of these locations only exist due to the love and sense of preservation by the locals. Easily driven by if you aren't aware of them, we try to point them out in case you ever visit and want to check them out for yourselves! All in all, we had a great day stomping on the Terra.

GREAT video! I went to UGA and it was a fun treat to watch this and relive some of my favorite places in Athens - especially 40 Watt! I never knew about the house where the B52s played for the first time. Thank you again!

Thank you!! Athens is a great little town. We definitely want to go back and experience more of it. The 40 Watt was closed when we went due to Covid so we want to back and hopefully see a show there. Thanks for watching!!

Glad you got to visit our cool town. Thanks for highlighting spots! I went to school there in the late 1980s. That 40 Watt is actually not the original location. Check out the R.E.M. video "Turn You Inside Out" - it was a couple blocks away. A small, little dump really (beloved) with a little "courtyard" outside that had a single light bulb hanging down - 40 Watt.
