Downtown Athens, Ga - Breakin' - 4/7/84

Highlights from a break-dance session one spring afternoon in Athens, Ga. 1984. Guadalcanal Diary were in town to play the 40 Watt Broad Street. Downtown was always good for hanging out/people watching with the sidewalk in front of Barnett's (books, mags, tobacco, candy) a good vantage point. The two kids in red are interesting (near the end) and the red beret/playboy bunny shirt guy has some good bug moves. Downtown was casual, not too crowded, not yet filthy with bars and student apartments. Culture wasn't as self-aware; "rhoided" by reality tv and social media. When the cops respond to complaints of the crowd blocking the storefronts, everyone is calm and mellow. An afternoon's idyll dissipates until the next time.
