I served 20 years in law enforcement working in my agency's Major Offender Unit, assigned to the Repeat Offender Program's (ROP) Surveillance Team.
I also served as a provisional Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Clandestine Drug Laboratory task force member. Previously, I served on the Homicide/Drug Task Force, and as a Detective assigned to my department’s Drug Enforcement Bureau. I have over 25 years of surveillance experience in thousands of physical and technical surveillance operations involving private, corporate, and criminal cases.
I coauthored the books Applied Police and Fire Photography, Terrorist Attacks, Racial Profiling, Fundamentals of Physical Surveillance, Street Drug Investigation, and Fundamentals of Civil and Private Investigation. I have authored several criminal justice articles for various publications. My books are available at most online bookstores.

Never seen that yet...have you? Maybe in the movies. We had the problem of having limo tint on our fleet, which draws attention as well. Nice to hide behind, but when the vehicles around you are all tinted out, that can cause a problem. And at night, it is hard to see through, and usually required rolling down the windows or positioning to just use the windshield, which limits options!
Then there is that time they all got the same model car just different colors
True....Myself and another investigator had identical Dodge Caravans, one white one silver....limo tint. We asked the suspect after we arrested him on a burglary we watched him commit if he recognized any vehicles in the past couple days. Sure enough, he named the Caravans. 😅 @@salvadordelgado2434

Keep a traffic cone in your trunk. I use them to hold open premium surveillance parking spots at busy office parks.
That's a great idea! I used to have some confiscated handicapped parking permits that I would hang from my mirror, but ONLY used in a pinch...🤫
So many abandonded cones around too. I should listen to that little voice in my head.
@@JoeCostantini74 Yeah, they do come in handy...clip board on the dash of a truck, hardhat. I actually had some daytime metal thieves that went by ladder to a rooftop and cut 2 inch copper power lines during working hours. No one gave them a second look. They looked official. Of course we had a team on them. They did about $500K of damage by cutting out the cable. It was depowered due to remodeling.
I do that too. Also, you can grab cones all over town, I believe they’re complimentary!
Why would you not activate vehicle ‘OnStar’, Sat Radio Svc, and mobile apps and track both vehicle and phone…? Could even setup auto notifications for movement, cell tower pinged, etc.
Those all require court orders and/or search warrants. OnStar is hesitant to provide law enforcement with their data, and working with them on a case for real-time tracking on a "lower level" type case just doesn't happen. The investigator has little control. It can be beneficial for historical data in the case of a kidnapping or homicide investigation. OnStar will help law enforcement in real-time when the case warrants it...i.e., the victim could be killed or hurt, and it's happening in real-time. Installing a GPS tracker via a search warrant provides the best control for an investigator who is tracking a vehicle in real-time. Same thing with cell phones. It is great for historical data and would be amazing for real-time cases, but again, the companies are in the cell phone business, not the tracking business. Court orders and subpoenas for call phone data takes time.

@@SigHellion FISA warrants are supposed to be extremely difficult to obtain and used infrequently. And they apply to foreign targets, as I understand it. I am not an expert on FISA warrants other than I know after the 911 attack, the Act was updated to enhance electronic surveillance of cell phones etc. I applauded and supported The Patriot Act when it was enacted, but now I see the overreach of Federal Government usage, which we witnessed when they went after Trump's associates and lied on the FISA application. This is serious business...and we should all be concerned. In my days as a detective, from the mid-1990s to 2012, we would have drug dealers who constantly switched their cell phones to avoid monitoring. The benefit of the Patriot Act was using the same search warrant/court order to apply to any device a suspect was using. Otherwise, he would switch by the time we got a monitor active on a bad guy's phone. So, it was a constant catch-up.
@@MasterSurveillant You should probably read FISA more closely. Without discussing the politics of it, the point of FISA was that you wouldn’t need a warrant for surveillance domestically or foreign.
@@SigHellion FISA or not, we are all under surveillance via Big Tech that is in collusion with the government. Apple and Google blatantly violate privacy and are willing to accept a multi-million dollar settlement as a cost of doing business because they are making Billions off invading our privacy...FISA isn't even necessary anymore. Lawlessness exists at the highest levels of government, and the agencies have become weapons against political opponents. You can't not bring politics into it...you are either on the side of good or evil. Political parties have become a uni-party and resist any outsider to the club...period!
Blind spot monitoring on their car won't help - it will stay on the whole time. lol
What do you mean?? Suspect vehicle or surveillant vehicle?
If you are the surveillant vehicle... you had mentioned staying in the blind spot. The mirror on the suspect vehicle would stay lit alerting them that someone was hovering.@@MasterSurveillant
@@trvs00 That is a good point and observation. Thanks for clarifying.
I rarely use the technique, thus haven't seen the orange caution mirror light come on, as it does in my newer suburban. Most older vehicles, or lower end vehicles, of course don't have the feature, so it wouldn't be of concern. Overall, It is best to not be observing from the blind spot unless circumstances dictate it.
