i love that you can see Marquis's fear when Winston delivered the line
He has fast enough reactions to realize what Winston mean, but slow enough to not take the shot when the gun is already pointed. It actually ruined otherwise perfect scene for me

Funniest part to me is that Caine survives by his hearing, and would KNOW that only his dueling pistol discharged, but didn't vouchsafe that information to his 'sponsor'.

When Winston said “just kill him.” He was probably saying that about the Marquis, not Caine. If that’s the case, I believe John, Winston and Caine were working together to take down the Marquis.
John and Caine had the idea to shoot their final bullets, but John (possibly) lets Caine shoot John, so he could save the bullet.
Winston saves John at the right moment by distracting the Marquis.
And of course, John shoots his bullet he saved to kill the Marquis for good.

Nahh, in the high table duel, each person must shoot for each paces, when Marquis try take shot on John, Winston only remind Marquis that John did not shoot yet, which means, if Marquis even shoot John and kill him, Marquis will become excommunicado, as he break the high table duel rule

I love that they saved a shot of the Marquis' reaction before John fires the last shot. The fear in his eyes, the realization that he just walked open-mouthed into a trap, is delicious

Absolute cringe. American audiences really are the worst imaginable.
Too many people either didn't watch this movie, or watched it with ear plugs and a blind fold.
They must both fire their shots before they can reload and shoot again.
Pennywise broke this rule accidentally, because John hadn't shot his round yet, which John did on purpose, knowing Pennywise would be arrogant enough not to notice.
The moment Pennywise reloaded, he had already thrown the match, and it was John's right to fire at will.
What makes the scene even more delicious is one simple fact. The rules of the duel.
Rules dictated that both participants must fire before the next shot can be fired. If one is killed then the duel is considered over. But the next round cannot start until both parties have fired. John never fired, and he didn't die either. So it was still considered part of the round.
So when the Marquee took the gun from Cain, loaded a new round and then tried to kill John. He was now in violation of the rules. Which makes his "rules" line even more ironic. Cuz he was about to completely break them before Winston stopped them. Hence "consequences". Made himself an easy target with no chance to defend himself. For if he did, he'd lose either way.

After I watched this a second time, I finally realize that Winston looked down at John Wick's wounds after he asks him if he could be taken home. Winston knew that John wasn't going to make it, and understood that Wick was asking if he could be properly buried, instead of "cleaned up." Such a sad ending to one of the best action franchises in history

What a satisfaction seeing how John Wick kills the arrogant Marquis de Gramont, avenging so Charon's death.
Not firing the third shoot was a smart move for John Wick and this gave him the chance to kill the Marquis and putting end to the duel
And even if he didn't, if Marquis went ahead, he would've broken the rules and been made an enemy to the High Table.

Everyone in my theater knew it was a movie, and since characters can't hear cheers, they stayed silent like well-behaved cinema goers.

So the only thing i didn't understand was earlier it said the second is buried with the first as in if John died then so would Winston and since the Marquis died, shouldn't Caine have too? I thought Marquis named Caine as his second at the earlier agreement of the duel rules

Should’ve made John start begging and crying like he knew it was the end for him. Would’ve thrown the audience off on what was gonna happen bc it would be so out of character for him lol
I know they said "no quarter" but, let's say John did shoot. The Marquis said he claimed the coup de grace but they never mentioned that as part of the rules or what qualified someone to be able to make that claim. John was clearly capable of a fourth shot, had he actually fired the third on Caine. Since John won the duel, it's safe to say him being on the ground while shooting wasn't against the rules. So, how was the Marquis seemingly about to get away with grabbing another round and shooting without John re-loading or waiting for the Harbinger to say "fire" like he did the three previous rounds? I understand that if he did shoot before John, he would have broken the rules, but I don't get why what he was about to do wouldn't have been against the rules even if John did shoot. The Harbinger wouldn't have stopped him from breaking the rules, but if he knew that John didn't shoot then he never would have said the fourth round "fire" allowing the Marquis to get off a legal shot. If he thought John did shoot then why not give them both another round, tell them to take positions and say the fourth round "fire". Or am I just overcomplicating this?
I hate what these films have become. It started off with this gritty mystique of the criminal underworld and now it's "ah ha but its a Wednesday and I brushed my teeth for a whole second longer than two minutes so therefore you cannot touch me for I am John Wick" and then the new higher up in the chain bad guy goes "ah ha but I am the calculator and I veto these rules because as you see I'm not wearing my left shoe" and then they go to space or whatever.

I think Chapter 4 was a phenomenal conclusion. Now that John beat the High Table in one of its games, he deserves to find peace alongside his wife. Let's hope that spin-offs like Ballerina and the one involving Caine are just as good as this tetralogy. Other secondary characters like Sofia could return in a spin-off to free the world from the influence of remaining agents of the Table, honouring Wick's legacy
The Marquis had all the time to shoot John, but instead listened to Winston.
Well you live up to your name also they were following the rules. Both parties must shoot before either can reload and shoot again even if he had shot John it would be in violation of the rules and likely cause his death. That’s why he faced the consequences to his following of the rules.
