  • China's nine-dash line, or the dotted line, over its sovereignty of the South China Sea is reasonable and legitimate and has rich historical basis, a senior maritime expert said.
Wu Shicun, chairman of the Huayang Research Center for Maritime Cooperation and Ocean Governance and founding president of the National Institute for South China Sea Studies, told China Global Television Network (CGTN) in an exclusive interview that the essence of the South China Sea issue is that coastal neighboring countries are trying to rationalize their encroachment on islands and reefs that belong to China.

I totally agree with Mr. Wu Shicun. Since the uncle Shameusa gets involved, everything is intensely escalated in the region. It's divide and conquer tactic.

What Wu Shicun said is absolutely correct. Imagine if there is no nine-dash line, those small coastal pawns countries will be fighting like crazy over those islands, and fighting a lot more when outsiders (the u s a) coming in to stir up the troubles.

@@haniahannslew4108 the US is out of the picture. you are barking at the wrong tree. if only China respects, observes and follows international law, then there would be peace and order. the problem is that the CCP does not follow any law. it only uses the law to its advantage. the arbitral tribunal has already ruled, using UNCLOS (to which china is a signatory), a final and binding decision that China does not own the SCS. If china is a peaceful nation, then, it should bring its case to the international court rather than pointing fingers at the wrong people.

Filipinos only want its EEZ to be respected and China not to build anything on it. Especially, in accordance with the 2016 ruling of the UNCLOS.
Once that is done, China can draw whatever dashed lines it wants anywhere in the world except within any part of the territory of the Philippines.
Whether the SCS will be chaotic or not without the Nine-(so now it's 9) Dash Line is irrelevant to the Filipinos. Just keep the dash lines away from the Philippine EEZ. - Do that and the problem between China and the Philippines - solved!

Therefore, any territory of the would-be Philippines belongs to Spain and whoever colonizes it after. When Spain (or the US, or Japan) ceased to be the colonizer of the Philippines, all of its territories in the Islands became part of the territories of the Philippines.
