“You used to care about me, now you care about multiple people” is the single most accurate description of the concept of betrayal in kingdom hearts
That makes no sense, sora is defined by his connections to everyone

@@kuukylvrr he changed as we all do and can

i love that naminé, this one off character who only had a prominent role in one game, voices the only logical concept of "Bro Just Use Both Light And Darkness It's Really Not That Big A Deal"
How is some random little kid smarter than literal Keyblade masters and basically war veterans.
"I can't use the light don't you understand? I'm not an emo because I'm dark, I'm dark because I'm emo!"
"K but that doesn't mean you can't be GOOD emo."

@@Zorro7269 hahaha it's Disney mixed with an anime my dude.
She isn't wrong, using the dark power doesn't make you evil... They simply choose to give into more primordial instinct.
If we are going off the lore itself, darkness can't exist without light and light can't exist without darkness... So it's never really going away.

Roxas technically being the first (in release date order) documented keyblade wielder to unlock Dual Wielding purely to spite ORG XIII and Riku, despite being the nobody of a kid who was never supposed to be a keyblade wielder and 358 days old is honestly kinda wild lmao

“Maybe he can only be within 500 feet of him like the opposite of a restraining order”. Ansem is just Riku’s stand.
But ansem already has the Guardian for a stand. Does that imply stands can have stands of their own?! TWO!?
@@DictatorAtWill I mean Killer Queen had Sheer Heart Attack...
@@jeremyabbott4537 Canonically the rule is one stand per person and that's been stated multiple times, but group Stands like Bad Co. and Harvest exist, Killer Queen has Sheer Heart Attack like you said, and Cheap Trick would essentially become the stand of whoever it possessed even if they already had one, also Anubis was able to use Silver Chariot after possessing Polnaref, so there's a lot of loopholes if not outright exceptions to that rule. Sheer Heart Attack in particular was really pushing it IMO. Edit: King Crimson also has Epitaph although that feels more like an extension of KC than a proper second stand unlike Heart Attack and it could even be excused as Doppio's Stand, although Diavolo can still use it after separating from him so that's iffy. Evolving multiform Stands like Echos exist too. Last but not least how could I forget that Dio could use Jonathan's Stand as well as ZA WARUDO.
@@GodOfOrphans I’m 9 months late but I have a theory about DIO’s abilities. It’s shown he can use Hermit Purple, can use Time Stop like Jotaro, I wanna say the Flesh Buds and stuff would’ve probably been Holly’s ability, and he heals Pucci in Part 6 like Josuke would’ve. I have a theory that DIO’s Stand basically just allows him to use the abilities of other members of the Joestar bloodline because he’s very clearly connected to them in some way. Not just that, but it wouldn’t make sense for Johnathan to have the same Stand as Joseph. Not just that, but the whole “It’s the same type of Stand as Star Platinum” could be interpreted literally as in DIO can use Jotaro’s ability and accessed it before Jotaro even knew he had it, which would also explain why Jotaro was able to move through Time Stop, because that was his ability.
@@Zorro7269 Cool theory but word of god does confirm that the upgraded hermit purple DIO uses is indeed Jonathan's Stand. It was originally planned for The World to have the powers of every stand which fits the name and theme if you know your tarot cards especially the concept of The Fool's Journey, but as more Stands got added it got harder to implement and the Jonathan's Stand idea was a retcon to excuse how DIO could use hermit's abilities back in the beginning and The World became Time Stop as we know and love it today. Another fan theory about Jonathan's stand that helps it feel less like an obvious retcon I'm fond of is that in addition to spirit photography it enables one to see and amplify the good in people and was how Jonathan was able to so easily win over Speedwagon in Part 1 and how DIO was able to use it to influence Kakyoin so easily.
The novelization of 358/2 Days is even sadder than you could realize. In the end after Xion has gone away and before Riku takes Roxas to DiZ, the narration has every second or third sentence in cursive as Roxas' inner monologue repeating Xion's name so he won't forget her. He does that the entire time until Riku turns himself into Ansem and is knocked unconscious. Meaning that he had to fight against Riku while preoccupied with trying to hold on to his memory of Xion.
That is seriously powerful stuff.
Too bad she returned in kh 3 Lmaoo which makes that moment not powerful.
@@seandarebel8115 no it makes it more powerful because we see how long she's been gone and how happy Roxas and Axel are to have her back
@@richarddavis8863 Nah it loses any emotional tension. Also they barely interacted with each other. It wasn’t heartfelt, and literally came out of nowhere.
Mind you I love the story of 358/2 days but Xion imo should’ve died and never returned.

Ha
Think if Riku used "sense" instead of "smell"
Why does darkness have a smell?
It's literally a human concept/perception.
Namine: "when did you know?"
Riku: "I could sense it, you and Kairi have the same presence."
"I can feel you're here, Ansem."
"This feeling... Darkness, like a thick fog."
It would be so much easier to make sense than smell.
And much less awkward talking to Namine for a minute.
Yeah, This pretty much made me joke about Riku being a searching dog. (I still do when i think about Riku's story in COM)
@@Manxerhthedutchside a scent dog LMAO! It also made him the creepiest character in the series for a minute talking to Namine.
@@DarksteelHeart Yeah, Now that i got to think about it, It really does xD
I honestly think that darkness should specifically have a smell when you're deep in it, like riku originally was. Almost sweet or something. Then after you slowly go away from pure darkness, it's a feeling/sense
Counterpoint; the idea of darkness having a smell and/or riku being the only person able to smell it is hilarious
Iirc Riku frequently mentioning he "smells" darkness is a translation quirk. It's some kind of perception or aura thing, and the closest translation was "smell" or something.
When Sora said “we got rid of Ansem for good,” I laughed too. If only he knew.
33:00 Holy crap that was so funny. That delay you added then Riku just slowly walking away with the loud footsteps made me burst out laughing so hard my cat got scared

I'm dying at this part rn
Just came off of watching the whole KH3 video and saw this too. Watched cuz 358 is actually my favorite one.
Theres a part of me that oddly ENJOYS "Boring" stuff. The idea that the game is just Roxas clocking into his 9-5 heartless killing job, and then going to a hangout after work is somehow really charming to me.
I like that it basically omits all the Disney stuff besides the world design, I like that you can play as a bunch of different characters [Even if most of them suck], and I even like the goofy tile based level and equipment system.
I like just running around and killing things with my big key shaped stick, and thats what this game is. On top of having a generally self-contained story that focuses on the characters I like most.
Its SIMPLE but thats what I enjoy.
@ZtotheMills Top Tier Opinion mate, feel the same way
It’s simple and clean.
Same, it's my favorite in the series as well. I really loved the info gathering missions where you walked around in the different worlds getting some insights you might not have thought of otherwise. And hanging out with the Org members between missions, listening to them gossip had some awesome characterizations. Sometimes I'd fall asleep with the DS on just listening to the song in the Grey Area
I’ve played through Days more than any other game in the series. Probably wouldn’t call it my favorite but I am still very fond of it and have played it aplenty.
Now if only I had a group to play mission mode with.
@@lolAvalanche Mission mode is fun even solo just to like, pick a character, a crazy weapon build and just see what happens.
Its also great for folks like me who love the weapon design and animations of the series. Cuz every character has like 25 weapons and crazy animations for each. its so fun.
I just think it’s hilarious to think the Org has beds they sleep in and yet they didn’t give them a tv or something
No feelings, no Big Mouth or whatever.
Just finished the 'KH3 Was a waste of effort' and immediately subscribed.
You are a hero to us all 🎆✨️
Chain of memories is basically Sora refusing to forget his dear friends Ronald and Toothy.
You dummy, it's Dolan and Gooby.
Hey. I just want you to know that “Luxord, pronounced Luxord.” Is one of my favorite jokes ever
Dude you explained Xion more concisely than anybody else on this platform. Hilarious
I can't stand the 358/2 movie or game, but the manga is fucking excellent, it's funny as hell and the emotional moments are ACTUALLY emotional, Xion's dialogue with Riku is more impactful and her breakdown isn't over dramatic, it actually means something and so does her death. 358/2 deserves a proper remake with cutscenes that have the same level of care as the manga.
I actually read the manga a few months back. I agree
I own the manga but I'm yet to read past the 5th page(I just don't like reading)
The Kingdom Hearts mangas in general are godlike. They take a franchise that has some of the worst presentation and storytelling I've ever seen and refine it into a satisfying experience.
Also, they're funny as hell.
I actually think I’ll pick up the Manga instead of play the game
The game was wonderful what are you talking about? The movie was ehh
OMG the Lorax is Arlo's Nobody!
I havent seen someone else make the comment, so I will. You commented that Marluxia and the others would not need to control Sora if they had a replica of Riku that was already wielding a keyblade. However, the Soul Eaters that both Riku and Riku Replica possess are not keyblades but just ordinary swords crafted out of their powers of darkness. Riku doesn't pop out a keyblade until Kingdom Hearts 2 for no reason.
Awesome video.
Bro Riku on his knees screaming wants some more is so toxic and hilarious
That laugh of DiZ in the manga was put at the beginning of Kingdom hearts 2, saying "oh, how tremendous is the prelude of my revenge".😼 While Riku was in the corner listening and maybe thinking "this guy's crazy..."
13:30 *chef's kiss* That's perfection.
Also, you've blessed by the CZcams algorithm. Congrats, dude.
I choked on my water at that part, what a perfect reference
That little edit was so perfect and spot on. You have quite the talent
That “did you know?” caught me so off guard
13:24 Glad I’m not the only one that thought about that scene in Naruto when they heard that. Had to like the video after that edit.
Ah, about Billy Zane. I asked him at Galaxy Con in Raleigh NC. Zane has no clue why Disney or Square never asked him to return.
I heard he would have liked to.
Would have been awesome. His voice is still THE sound that I hear from Ansem after all these years.
@@RexcorJ His voice was so shakespearian to the character. Meanwhile I can't unhear his coach character from Hajime no Ippo trying to sound threatening.
Same with David Boreanaz as Leon.
@Minespatch That makes me sad to hear as I love his voice for Ansem and whenever the character returned in the series he just wasn't the same. Such a shame.
He was the best KH villain voice actor. Way more powerful than anyone else that followed, it’s a shame they never asked him back because the others are honestly not great
The naruto reference definitely got me lmaooo
Man I'm so glad yet so disappointed that they dropped the smell mechanic. It has by far produced the best lines in the series
Dropped the whole memory mechanic, so the smell mechanic was scrapped with it.
They were using it because smell is the sense most closely linked to memory.
@@qrowing If that's what was said in an interview then okay another dumb thing that Numora said. Because smell seem to have a closer link to darkness than anything else. And if was memory than why was Riku the only one who used it lol.
@@grandpeach6022 Hot take, sight has a closer link to darkness than anything else. Cuz if it’s dark you can’t see.
22:12 my favorite joke on CZcams.
The whole thing?
@@askyouruncle no no the PSYC part lol. I didn't beat com as a kid and only learned about rikus side later from CZcams.
32:57 That itself is a well deserved awkward silence
This series is like bad cable management meets story telling. Yeah all the ends are where they are supposed to be, but the journey the take becomes such a mess that it become a barely working headache that gets the job done, for now… I guess.
Was watching this at 3:30am, when you started yelling “you thought you could escape?!” I completely lost it. Thank you for your humor. I know you won’t read this, but it’s the little things at times such as that moment that really make a difference. Take care.
Yo i think he read it
i'd like to point out for 16:40; namine has the power over -memes- memories, or specifically sora's memories and his connection to others depending on which game you play. in this scene, namine erases riku replica's memories, an act which was later explained to have the effect of destroying one's heart.
when i first saw this scene, it hit me that this riku replica; huge fucking asshole who may or may not have been a challenge, who was about to end the game then and there... "I said STOP!" and he drops dead on the spot, that very second. namine _KILLED_ riku replica,*INSTANTLY* with barely more than a word. yea he got better because plot armor bullshit, but i went forward for the rest of the game thinking that this could all be over one way or another, if namine wanted it to be. if she were built just a little bit different, we could have been seeing a very different KH franchise...maybe.
Well... Technically sora did die, but I guess there is no afterlife... You just go to the real world like if your death was waking up to the matrix lol, it's so ridiculous. Guess having a heaven is too edgy for this series, that or numora just wanted an exuse to remake final fantasy 13 versus in KH.
namine is the strongest character in kh
literally one shots people by just saying stop
26:13 well that weapon riku was given is actually not a keyblade, just something maleficent gave him. He gets a keyblade later on
Chain of memories (gba) was my first KH game so I am biased towards it admittedly, but I absolutely love the gameplay. The cards is my favorite part about it, a blend of strategy and realtime RPG combat.
I love it so much and I still haven't come across a similar game yet.
The first Kingdom hearts game was great. Now it's like a bunch of weird anime final fantasy bullshit mixed with Disneyland
you deserve a larger audience. well done!
that means a lot, thank you
The audience is getting here
Facts, his humor is great
So true

I think 358 being after 2 makes sense.... 2 is the best introduction to Roxas... and 358 is the explanation....
Yeah, most of the mystique and revelations that comes in KH2's prologue is gone if you know them already.
It sounds like Sora’s just has had enough of Jiminy’s cricket shit
And Riku can smell EVERYTHING”
Honestly I pretty much hated every Kingdom hearts game that came after the first one. We never got the answers we want it and we never saw what happened after that cliffhanger. They just invented some extra weird bullshit story to throw at us
358/2 Days should definitely not be played before 2. I would even argue that playing Chain of Memories before 2 ruins a lot of the mysteries set up in 2.
Chain came out literally years before 2 did, but yes don't play Days first, everything with Roxas in 2 and Days is kind of emotionally predicated on experiencing them in release order, from the mystery to the sense of inevitable tragedy
I am happy they managed to make HD versions of BBS, Chain of Memories, DDD
I wish they did the same for 358/2 Days
Roxas needs Love
38:32 The funniest thing about this video, because the majority of the jobs I've worked at when I've entered have had me learning to do my job with other new people 😄😄😄
the "my beautiful gun is destroyed" clip is a sly cooper reference right? had me dead lol 11:56
yup thats muggshot from sly 1 and this the last place I'd expect to hear it. but it fits so well.
A game with a story that revolves around the power of one's heart now has a story and system that revolves around cards. I imagine Yugioh lawyers were at the ready on the sidelines of CoM.
The original GBA version was better than the PS2 remake.
The shadow the hedgehog music for Riku's playthrough was the cherry on top of this video, and that's not even halfway through.
Dont say thankfully, the Re: actually hurt CoM, the Card combat was designed for the angled top downish it had originally not 3rd person 3d so in Re:CoM the game is expecting you to see everything but you can only see in front of you and that screws you over more than you realize
Maybe the word would be isometric? It’s not quite right for the actual battle screens but it’s more representative. And yeah I really liked the combat in the original Chain of Memories. It was a unique system and was great if you liked a planning and real time strategy component it brought to the game play. Maybe it isn’t for everyone, but it wasn’t a bad system at all.
10:52 i have no idea why vexen and that music go so well together but i can't stop laughing about it
"They said no"
took a meh morning to a great morning. Thank you.
That fucking pbg reference was just for me and I loved it. Thank you.

I love Kingdom Hearts and have always had a problem with it lol
Dude. You’re NAILING this.
I’m just gonna waste my life and watch your channel 😂

“She kind of looks like her but goth” 😂😂😂
Great video! Although I noticed you called Riku's weapon, Soul Eater, a keyblade. Soul Eater is just a sword. That's why Riku uses it in KH1 when he loses his ability to use a keyblade.
This is the last video on the KH laylist of yours. thanks for making these summaries so i don't have to replay these game for the 5th time lol.
idk when he started describing the whole xion, roxas, org, diz situation (which i already know, but still), i was more intrigued and hooked rather than confused
It's a common misconception that the sword Riku and Relica Riku use is a keyblade. It is not. It is simple a generic sword called the "soul eater", but Riku does eventually get his own keyblade, "way to dawn".
At like 26:20, you said Riku had a keyblade. The sword he’s using isn’t a keyblade, it’s called Soul Eater and it’s just a darkness sword. It just looks a lot like the keyblade he gets later called Way to the Dawn.
26:11
Riku replica (Repliku) doesn't have a keyblade. Repliku uses Soul Eater which is just a normal weapon.
35:09
I completely disagree with playing days before 2 on a first playthrough. 2 intro is ment to be a mystery to both Roxas and the player.
Also it spoiles the nice twist in the mid game where you and sora find out that killing heartless help the organization plans.
I know why they put days in the 1.5 set, from a business perspective.
Soul Eater is literally Rikus keyblade what are you saying
@@tellurianapostle Way to Dawn was Riku's keyblade. which is based on Soul Eater. Because when Riku got it he still had darkness in his heart. That's why in DDD Riku summons Soul Eater at Yen Sid's tower to show Sora why he think he needs to take The Make of Mastery.
And that's also why in KHIII after Way to Dawn gets broken. And Riku has to make a new keyblade, it is Braveheart. Because Riku has moved past his old self.
Riku could work as a bloodhound
I never played chain of memories didn’t realise rikus sense of smell played such a key role
'If he cant win, nobody does'
I dont know if that was intentional or not but i loved it. I recently came across your channel and am LOVING your content
Ansem comes out of riku with a limited range. Ansem has dark guardian who comes out of him with a limited range. Stand-ception.
Using Shadow's the Hedgehog's theme for Riku was just perfect. They're uh, kind of similar characters, in a way.
Enjoyed the video! Disagree with the idea that 358/2 should be played/watched before KH2 though. Whereas KH2 does a good job of not ever spoiling or referencing anything too important for 358/2, the opposite is not true. There was a LOT of stuff in 358/2 when I watched for the first time after having completed KH2 that I was glad to be able to make sense of because I played KH2 first.
Having played KH2 and watched the 358/2 movie I can see why people would suggest you watch 358/2 first but this is a situation where the release order is the better way to experience it. KH2 was designed to give you just enough information to make complete sense of 358/2 whereas the latter is designed in a way that expects you to have played 2 first. You can experience in whatever order you want of course, but a lot of things that occur in KH2 had their impact increased by watching 358/2 second.
I'm just thankful that the entire Kingdom Hearts catalogue is on PC one way or another these days though. Not having a good PC port was the only thing stopping me from replaying all my favorites and also stopping me from being able to play the intermediary titles like BBS and DDD. Kingdom Hearts is a series I never thought would be on PC, but here we are along with almost the entire Final Fantasy franchise as well. Good time to live.
IMO, chain of memories is a really good and unique game, but not the remake. The gba game was a great challenge and the combat was super fun. The remake however was mostly just too easy due to being more capable of evading enemy attacks by jumping through the 3D space, which made the game feel much more mindless. The gba game had you be a lot less mobile which made you stay on your toes and engaged. Hell even the story was better, the lack of voice acting and needing to read characters’ lines within your head makes the awkward dialogue feel much more natural. The new cutscenes are cool but they sorta take away more than they add.
Personally, I wish they'd just done a quality HD version of the GBA game with full 3D models instead of sprite work but kept the feel/design of the original. It was like when older games would release a different version of the game on each console that may have been similar but played completely different.
Thought I understood the timeline well enough, but you explain it better than the friggin "KH timeline explained" nonsense that makes me wanna put a knife in a wall socket. Now I can finish KH3 lmao
Thank you kindly!
These games just hold our childhoods hostage by having disney and FF ip’s and decent music with leitmotifs.
The idea that 358 should be played before 2 is really flawed, the game literally exists to fill in the gaps of Roxas and Axel's story, but without playing 2 first you have no gaps to fill in.
Yeah, it is really good to take some time to understand something within 5-10 seconds as a pause/hesitation.
The icing on the cake joke caught me off guard and made me laugh hard
After watching through your 5h 30m review of KH3 yesterday in one sitting and watching through this I have to say that you're indeed the definitive KH reviewer - hope you will do the other games as well one day :)
why the fuck does everyone summarize chain of memories SO AMAZING XD

Holy fuckinf shit dude that voice clip of naruto talking about sasuke when sora was talking to vexen 💀💀💀💀💀💀 fucking deaddddf lmaooo
47:07 This Roxas with armor xigbar sees in Xion is Ventus which is actually one of the few moment of greatness this series has because bbs would be released later. (Of course they planned for it)
And I love Days too. The combat and grid system are intriguing. I love RPGs where I have agency over my characters abilities.
Experiencing 358/2 days as movie is worst way of doing that. Playing the game is optimal with all its flaws, but reading manga is also acceptable.
Wait so... like can all the members of organization xiii transform like that? Always thought it was weird...
I played the GBA version to death on a gameboy with a dead R button. It died part way through the Sora part of the game so I couldn't stock cards or even cycle through my deck in both directions. I beat both Sora's part and Riku's part without stocking cards.
Then I bought the PS2 version years later and never got through the first world because I just couldn't get over Sora's voice. It was just too weird. I knew that the voice actor's voice changed over time but it was still too uncanny.
I loved that moment when he said “oh it’s over SIKE” that had me dying!
So my hot take on re:Chain of Memories is that gameplay wise, it's pretty fucking shitty but has some of the best voice acting in the entire series. I legitimately love the delivery of almost every character in this game.

No wonder this combat system sucked, it was nfts in disquise lmao
Gotta say, playing all these the first time, despite how disappointed I was with the card battle system, I still made it work because I just wanted to know the story. It would’ve been cool if they made Donald and goofy AI supporters that uses their own deck of cards as well. I think that would’ve made things a little bit better so you don’t feel completely alone.
I think that if theyd have just not ised cards it would have been better.
Ok so I have this little theory. I think Namine rewrote Sora around a bit to be nicer than he really was. Look at him in kh1 and compare that to his portrayal in 2 and onwards. He's definitely different
I love how your KH videos are meant for a subset of people but they can appeal to all KH fans. I’m kinda disappointed that you seemed to cover all the major games though. Despite that, these are all great videos and I can’t wait to see more

I just realized sora and zehanort are the only ones to make sentient heartless. And we have antiform/rage form. Seems sora has an inherent connection to the darkness even deeper than rikus. I Mean first thing after sora becomes a heartless we have controll. Hes not going wild or anything. There's something horribly dark in sora i think.
“The stronger your light is, the greater your darkness becomes.”
Iss a really cool way to look back at the line you get before the first Darkside fight. A reference to how Sora isn’t clear of darkenss
