Swansea City Association Football Club is a Welsh professional football club based in the city of Swansea, South Wales that plays in the Championship. Swansea City represents England when playing in European competitions, although they have represented Wales in the past. They play their home matches at the Liberty Stadium.
The club was founded in 1912 as Swansea Town and joined the Football League in 1921. The club changed their name in 1969, when it adopted the name Swansea City to reflect Swansea's new status as a city.
In 1981, the club were promoted to the original Football League First Division. It was during the following season they came close to winning the league title, but a decline then set near the season's end before finishing sixth, although a club record. It was from here the club suffered a relegation the season after, returning to the Football League Fourth Division a few seasons later, then narrowly avoided relegation to the Football Conference in 2003. Prior to playing home matches at the Liberty Stadium, the team had previously hosted at the Vetch Field. The Swansea City Supporters Society Ltd owns 20% of the club, with their involvement hailed by Supporters Direct as "the most high profile example of the involvement of a supporters' trust in the direct running of a club".
In 2011, Swansea were promoted to the English Premier League, becoming the first Welsh team to play in the top division since its formation in 1992. On 24 February 2013, Swansea beat Bradford City 5-0 to win the 2012-13 Football League Cup (the competition's highest ever winning margin for the final), winning the first major English trophy in the club's history and qualifying for the 2013-14 UEFA Europa League. - Sport
The Swansea gear really suits him. Welcome Russell!!!!!
Exactly the man we need at this club, give him time and Im sure we will be playing well and playing the Swansea way again!!
Good appointment! Will be a great coach for you… hope you get promoted this season with him ! The Norfolk Cafu … he’s Russell Martin the Norfolk Cafu! Met him personally on many occasions a top man good luck to him !! 👍🏻
Excellent appointment. Very positive interview. Mentioned all three of my favourite managers... Laudrup, Rogers and martinez.. Swansea way coming back!!!! Fingers crossed 🤞
No bullshit, no nonsense! Straight to the point and honest from the get go - very refreshing! Short term pain for long term gain. Sounds good to me! 🔥⚪⚫
Mk Dons were a class team to watch last season he will get us playing good football soon enough
After watching this interview and reading about his brand of football, I'm convinced he's the right man for the job and a good fit for the club. Let's just hope the yanks will actually give him some money to bring in a few players, I won't hold my breath though! Either way, welcome to Swansea, Russell!
Welcome Russell! My initial basic relief has turned into growing optimism, great interview. Now looking forward to the possibility of some good signings.......we'll see.
This guy is a young manager with great potential love his enthusiasm and ideas everybody got to give him time and get behind him .
Mid table but good football is good enough for me this season
you’d rather play the Swansea way and finish mid table or go up playing hoofball or defensively?
@@_carljc who said we would go up with hoof ball? It isnt guaranteed.
@@dylangoddard7449 no one, I’m asking if you’d rather come 10th playing football or go up playing a non Swansea way
@@_carljc I'd rather go up if it was guaranteed
Me too Dylan. 🦢
Welcome to Swansea City Russell 👏
Swansea away days you ledge
Impressive interview, got a good feeling about this appointment... For good sake just get is playing good attacking football so we can forget about Cooper ball. Welcome to Swansea amigo.
While attractive football will be nice, the goal was to get promoted in fairness while at times it was boring to watch cooper did what was needed got the squad tougher and had us stop conceding stupid goals
@@Ovcas yeah like in that embarrassing playoff final.
@@fractalofgod6324 a final is 50/50 he had took a squad overacheived got beat by the better team
@@Ovcas I'd rather play good football and finish mid table than finish in play offs and play crap football
@@Ovcas haha our final wasn't 50/50 we didn't have one shot on goal, it was humiliation and surrender.
A forward thinking and very contemporary appointment. Good luck to you Russell. Come on the Swans!
Hope he gets the financial backing to make him successful with us! Good luck russ
Haha no... Loans and frees I'm sure. Next step is protesting the owners. They've not financially backed any manager since we've been relegated...
I'm very happy with this as he's a very positive person and MK DONS were brilliant great job with them and hopefully can get our fastness and speed formation back for the SWANS I thinks he's going to do a great job myself WELL COME Martin
Welcome to Swansea City to you and your staff Russell👍
If you get the right backing and with your stance on how football should be played, the club, the fans, will enjoy this ride to success👍
We are a patient bunch, but will expect to see something this season. Good luck, one and all 👍🦢⚽️
Great interview, looking forward to seeing the team in action
Looks an excellent fit cant wait for the new season YJB#
Welcome Russell!
Welcome to the swans. Best of luck! 👍⚽
Welcome Russell YJB 🦢. Looking forward to this season and excited to see us being very attacking. This guy is the right man for the Job playing the Swansea way!
Welcome to the club Russell, best of luck it would be great if you can get the fast passing football back to the club.
Russ has been one my favourite players in the past I really hope he give you a incredible special job and go up
A massive Jack Army welcome and the best of luck with the Swans.
Swanseaaaaa 🙌🙌🙌🙌💪🔥
Good luck Russell hope u do well for this ckub
Welcome, Russell!
He interviewed very well.....looks a good appointment.
For those jealous fans calling him a snake and not loyal he got offered an interview with another club but he rejected that interview and they are bigger club then Swansea so sit down shut up
Ps I am loving the way we are playing now yes we finished 15 but he said from start it's not gunna happen on a quick fix watch this space this season we will see better side
Finally
"I want to watch our team on the side of the pitch and enjoy it - otherwise whats the point". Awesome! Go on, Son....
Great appointment. Needs time to get his philosophies across. But confident within 2/3 years he could turn this into his own squad in the premier league. Could sit and listen to him speak about football all day. Uppaswans
Welcome russss
Welcome to the jack army 🤍🖤
What was the final score after the goal scored after 56 passes?
@Norwich City Central - ex canaries player and ex mk dons boss Russ Martin is NEW swans boss on a 3 year deal until summer 2024
Welcome!
@TalkNorwichCity - ex canaries player and ex mk dons boss Russ Martin is NEW swans boss on a 3 year deal until summer 2024
@Swansea City AFC - i see that the club have also appointed ex Ipswich Town 1st team coach Matt Gill to work with NEW boss Russ Martin
Have you got any decent players we can buy on the cheap? You can have some of our players on loan. Russ is a top bloke he will get you promoted.
As an MK fan I’m gutted to see him go, but then again numbers don’t lie. We played beautiful football but far too often we had all the ball and 1 or 2 shots on target at best and struggled to beat teams we should have rolled over. Will be interesting to see how he gets on and how long he lasts at the club. It’s amazing what money can do to a mans integrity.
Welcome YJB !
Now get this man a goalkeeper
Really thought MK would of been a force this year, would of been good if he'd seen the job through
he’s a twat, says he’s staying then leaves he’s a liar don’t believe anything he says
@@Crinx cry some more , you should be thankful the work he did for mk and a bigger opportunity come and he took it
@@Crinx he didn't say he would stay he said he would be the dugout against Bournemouth which he was
@@Ovcas he did say he will stay and he hasn’t really done much
@Alex Griffin - swansea have appointed ex Ipswich Town 1st team coach Matt Gill to work with NEW swans boss & ex norwich man Russ Martin
Welcome russ 🦢🦢🦢
Why does he remind me of dapper laughs
Welcome YJB
He’s looking more like his mentor everyday 🤔
Daniel Farke 🔰🤪
can’t wait for norwich to make an offer cause he will leave straight away
If he does well at Swansea, he won't hesitate to walk out on you, if he gets a better offer, the mans a snake.
Ain't they all, he won't be the first manager to do well here then bugger off for better.
Yjb
Before anyone comments cry more if he gets a chance at a bigger club with more money he will take it at the first chance he gets he isn’t loyal only to Norwich
Nice, now get rid of the owners
He stabbed Paul Tisdale in the back to get the management job at Mkdons and then he stabbed Mkdons in the back to get this job. You have been warned
I thought someone offered him the jobs? I didn't realise he was that powerful to demand the jobs Daniel Farke must be worried.
@@jonathanwordingham8307 well it all depends on what you believe I guess. However what I will say is that he suddenly disappeared from the team selection, weeks leading up to his appointment. No mention of him at all in the press conferences and team news ,and then all of a sudden he becomes manager
Reminds me of how I became a warehouse manager the boss asked me if the manager just sat there all day (which he did) he told me he was getting rid of him and asked if I wanted the job with a pay increase or stay on my lower wages or get someone new in obviously I took the job i got on with the bloke it wasn't personal but he was lazy I done all the order picking he just sat there shuffling the paperwork and made me do all the work my boss also fired someone else as I could do his job as well . I did feel a bit shitty about the guy getting fired as he asked me if i knew I told him I knew but not that I was his replacement, at the time it was hard for me to get a job anybody else even footballers would do the same. If it makes you feel better my boss went bust. Been in my current job for 20 years now and have outlasted all the part timers as I seen them as a threat to my job so I work harder, only on minimum wage had better offers to do the same job but I'm loyal (to a degree as I quit a job to get this one) as my employer was good enough to give me the job if I took the other job it might only last a few weeks.
Btw I know I’m late, very late but he just wants to join a better club like Swansea City.
@@z4yooni And how is that working out for you ? We could very well be playing you next season
Welcome yjb oh I bet the 2 dislikes are mk don fans 😂😂
He’s gonna leave u as soon as he gets another offer
maybe he just wanted to leave a tiny little club 🤣🤣

Here we listen to Mr gutless talk rubbish, loyalty in Football 😠
well done for leaving franchise fc 👏🏼every club should come together to make sure they go bust, disgusting club
Snake 🐍
Are you sure this is the right guy to lead the club towards promotion???
Promotion is coming second to good football here and I'm quite happy for that to be the case
@@dylangoddard7449 Is he a sure Guarantee of good football though....
Yes mk dons were 3rd in total possession in Europe last season the other team can't play without the ball so I'd say that's good football
@@patsyparisi2620 possession can be boring too. Let's see what happens.
Promotion isn't going to happen this season with alot of players leaving but with the good football maybe in a year or 2
