Mega City One is a vast, violent metropolis where felons rule the streets. The only law lies with cops called "judges," who act as judge, jury and executioner, and Dredd (Karl Urban) is one of the city's most feared. One day, Dredd is partnered with Cassandra (Olivia Thirlby), a rookie with powerful psychic abilities. A report of a terrible crime sends Dredd and Cassandra to a dangerous area controlled by Ma-Ma (Lena Headey), a drug lord who will stop at nothing to protect her empire.

You gotta love Dredd's reaction to getting shot. No cry of pain, not even a whimper or a groan, just a scowl and a "well, that sucks" growl as he slowly slides down.
I’m absolutely convinced Karl Urban had to chew a handful of nails to play this part. He’s got that “don’t fuck with me” energy Dredd exudes down to a T.
@@TheCorrodedMan im convinced Karl worked in the trades and had to do that a few times as far as taking the pain
The fact this movie never got a sequel is fucking CRIMINAL.
Correct. Those responsible get three weeks in the iso-cubes.
We can only hope one day. This movie fucking ruled.
You'll DREAD the day when woke Hornywood does sequel... Let's just wait it out. Let it cook.
@@Hiddenus1Ain't that the truth. Dredd would end up a Trans non-binary two spirit Woman of Color.
Love how dread acts like a normal person and says the line **after** the guy gets shot.
1. Kill the guy
2. Then say the catchy line
He got him monologuing.
That sly dog!
i love how they didnt waste time with the Rookies ability (like making her “conflicted” about shooting another Judge) she knew the second she put her gun down she was dead, so no questions asked 🤙🏼
She read the so called back up mind first then shot her.
"You sly dog! You got me monologuing!"
I loved the teamwork between these two and greatly appreciated it staying super professional. No wasting time with romance plots smashed in there. They are just a kickass team with his brute force and her psychic reading.
“Do you you know what Mega City One is, Dredd? It’s a fucking meat grinder!”
Considering that there are cannibalistic processed food products in the comics, this quote is really interesting!
Putting Anderson and Dredd together was smart, loved the way the dealt with the dirty judges. Dredd worked it out because of his experience and smarts, Anderson just knew. Don't try to kid a telepath. 🤣
I love the way Lex says, "THE Judge Dredd!"
This is a good example of why, if someone has you at their mercy, you should hope they are evil.
I like how when Anderson shoots Kaplan, her Judge badge flies off her body when she hits the ground, as if she doesn't deserve to be remembered as a Judge.
He played an awesome Dredd. I really wish there would be a 2nd... and 3rd...
I just realized, after all these years, they made a big change in this movie: they don't have to call in deadly force.
Olivia Thurlby was an interesting choice for the role of Anderson. She's always been an indie darling, but never in an action role.
Love this movie. Soundtrack is awesome.
Sooooo good, yt intense 1 hr mix!
Crazy to think this movie is already 12 years old
Judge vs judge
Cop Vs Cop
Love this movie
I need a Dredd videogame
How did Dredd know rookie was coming?
He literally saw her walking up behind the guy.
Three possibilities:
1) He saw her in the distance.
2) She telepathically communicated with him.
3) He didn’t
Personally I thought it was #3 all this time. Judge Dredd is good, but sometimes even he needs a little luck.
@@segalliongaming8925It couldn’t have been through her telepathic ability because she said at the beginning of her assessment that a helmet will interfere with her psychic abilities when Dredd asked her why she didn’t have it.
@@BradMcleod-dw1xbshe said COULD, and she clearly read the female corrupt Judge's mind despite her having a helmet. Ultimately all are equally likely.
Yeah, as cool as this scene is, it always bothered me the most in the whole movie.
The reasoning that Dredd saw Anderson doesn't make sense either. The time between Dredd's plea and Amderson shooting Lex is simply too long. Just look how fast she's dispatching Kaplan.
Some deus ex machina moment would be lazy writing.
The most sensible explanation is Anderson's telepathy. The scene still isn't quite fleshed out.
Cop vs. Cop
Judge vs judge
This movie really shouldn't have been as good as it was
Judging by how it was rated, yeah
Perfect comment! 👌
@1:55 - what does '2 way split' mean here?
The corrupt Judges were going to split the 1 million for killing Dredd 4 ways. 2 died at this point because of Dredd.
Ma-Ma payed the four corrupt judges one million for killing Dredd and Anderson. Since Dredd had now killed two of the four judges, they will have to split it 2 way.
The four dirty judges were going to split 1 million 4 ways. He killed a judge earlier so they'd split it 3 ways. He just killed another judge so he said 2 ways basically taunting him about how the crooked cops were being picked off
He's mocking him by saying that if he does kill him, he has less friends to split the money with
Dredd has killed 2 of the 4 corrupt judges. Now they only have to split the money 2 ways!
Yes, a million dollars doesn't sound like much. Especially if you take into account inflation and the fact that this movie takes place in the future.
Its a dystopian future. Currencies as we knew today would've collapse for sure and a new currency would need to start from scratch. 1mil in this case could've meant a shit load
And I've read somewhere that judges dont get paid
My guy, it's a post apocalyptic world where dollar doesn't exist, they call currency "Credits". I am not aware of any canon materials that depict how much purchasing power does credit offer but it's safe to say that in context of 1 mil for killing judge it's substentially more than modern 1 mil $.
who writes these titles
Where are the Four Comments?
They're above yours.
One plot hole: why didn't dread pick up weapons off the floor?
Judge's weapons are synched to the Judge that owns them. If anyone else tries to use it the gun will detonate. This is shown earlier in the move, IIRC
@@BlueTengu no no I get that but why not the regular bad guys
@@ceufrscio707I’m guessing he thinks since he’s a pillar of authority he doesn’t think he should use paltry guns. But it could also reflect his uncompromising nature
Same reason soldiers in war don't unless they have to: it's a foreign weapon. Unfamiliar. Unknown what condition, how accurate the sights are and what distance they're optimized for. How likely it is to jam.
When you shoot at someone, you typically expose yourself to return fire.
If you expose yourself to shoot, and your gun doesn't do what you expect, then you just signed your death certificate for nothing.
@@davidf2244 anderson had absolutely no problems with "unfamiliar" weapons...i think its more of a " me and my weapon" mentality, evrything else is inferior and unworthy.
Dialogue was a little corny in this movie, but still enjoyable to watch.
I dont think so. Seems on point. If your the one who created the script how would you make them talk. Two words, like where are you. And then silent and then shoot
@@dellsantiago8108 and extremely relatable
Remember it’s based off comic books lol
That's part of what makes it good.
@@numbnuts375That's the thing- the dialogue and even the cinematography are very over-the-top, but I could tell immediately that it was a comic adaptation with just one look at clips like this. Maybe its age shows, but I miss this kind of storytelling in a way.
that judge armor ain't worth shit that 9mil can make swiss cheese out of it just like that :D
It was an armour piercing round, not basic round, besides, what do we know of the advanced type of munitions. Also, "...take anything but a straight hit..." as in Batman---same with Stormtrooper armour---anything but a straight hit.
@@JemmetGK makes some sense, good one :)
He is talking about the Mp5 which Rookie used to mince Lex, thru his armor. @@JemmetGK
@@heath_deadgerpvp1161
Well, if that's so...
You should notice that all the rounds went thru him under his helmet and over his vest---going thru the base of his head and neck area. None of what Anderson fired actually going thru Lex's armour...
@@JemmetGK Well, if that's so...
You should notice that one bullet clearly punches through the armor directly above the badge and another one at the sternum.
I grant that there probably were other hits at unprotected parts.
