- New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio made a statement on Meet The Press; last week, that Operator Sam and Angry Drill SGT strongly disagreed with. In a conversation with Maryland Governor Hogan, De Blasio responded to the Governor's statement that he had activated the military to assist during the pandemic, that the military was being sidelined and the National Guard Troops assisting were not actual military members. I guess all those deployments overseas didn't happen and thousands cant claim veteran status.

You can tell this wasn’t an act. He may have said this is Operator Sam. But when he talked about Guardsmen searching through the rubble on 9/11 you can see the absolute fury in his face. This was genuine anger and completely justified.

I still rewatch this video to this day. When talking about the world trade center, you can see his eyes turn red and hear his tone change. That wasn't an act, that wasn't even a conscious effort, that was the true rage of a man who has seen horrors and lost pieces of himself to them. That was the rage that has been chained up waiting for some ignorant bastard who has lived a sheltered life, entirely shielded from the true horrors of our world, to open his mouth on a subject he knows nothing about.

@@jmwb4u National Guard operates basically the same as the Reserves, with an Army and an Air Force component. The difference is that NG units are under the command of their state government, unless specifically mobilized for federal service. Under state command, they often assist with natural disasters and such.

I think DeBlasio slated the NYPD during a memorial for 2 of their fallen officers and many turned their backs to him during his speech.

This video still sends chills down my spine. Some of the toughest and most dependable people I’ve ever met were in the Guard. My cousin was in one of the initial Guard units activated and deployed to Iraq in the early parts of the war.

I’m glad this guy went in the way he did. I’m National Guard and I love serving my state and country. I wear the uniform with pride. Been on hurricane duty, Riot duty, deployed and my bag is packed as we speak because at any giving moment like any other branch we have to be ready at all times. If he was deployed OCONUS, he was nationalized under the federal government. If he was activated by the governor to deploy, he wasn't a member of the US military. Obviously, that wasn't the case.

Me:You clearly never heard of the "Blue and Grey" 29th Infantry division who were one of the first infantry divisions to land on Omaha beach with the 1st ID. 29th ID was made up of national guardsmen and fought the Germans from Normandy all the way to the Rhineland. The division took 200% division strength casualties over 246 days of fighting. if that aint military i don't know what the fuck is.
Says right on the front of the uniform: "U.S. ARMY" or "U.S. AIR FORCE" .... not "New York State Guard" or "State Militia"....

He mentioned the 34th ID red bulls in Iraq but they also fought in WWII, as in, the entirety of WWII in Europe, with more days in direct frontline contact with the enemy than any other American unit in the ETO, fighting from Morocco all the way to Italy.
And of course there is the 147th Infantry, the only American unit to fight at Guadalcanal, Saipan, Tinian, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Literally just an Ohio NG unit.

Funny, the National Guard felt like the military when I went to Afghanistan and again when that IED went off sending shrapnel into my spine on the Route clearance mission. I guess I was wrong about my medical discharge, must be some civilian thing.

As an active soldier, I can say we respect our national guard. Just like army calls marines "crayon eaters" and air force "chair force" but in the end we all have each other's back. A lot of my friends are "weekend warriors" we joke around a lot, they call me a sucker for having to do stupid shit every day and I send jabs at them for only going once a month, but we all have each other's back in the end and respect each other's service.

@TheDoonzman I believe what he meant by "deploy" is helping with natural disasters along with an actual deployment, which with that, is about once a year according to some info online. But that's for very short durations (less than a week)

I’m proud of the “US ARMY” nametape on my uniform, even though I’m a “weekend warrior”. Insurgents mortared my base daily in OIF 2, even when I went back for OIF 3...we toe’d the line with our Active Duty and Reservist brothers and sister-in arms, there’s no “components” when you’re in theatre.
If they have that national defense ribbon and the two boot camp medals, that's good enough for me.

I was so proud to join the guard a couple weeks ago. Then I got the people that said im not in the military or im just a weekend warrior sitting on my ass working at a grocery store. Then I saw this video, and to see the absolute passion from this man about the guard made me tear up

Lost a family friend, basically an uncle, who was deployed as a Guardsmen. He was an unlucky bastard who never found a survivor in 9/11. All he found were bodies in the rubble. He refused to take breaks, and on multiple occasions had to be practically dragged away to get blisters, splinters, and gashes on his hands treated. He wore out a pair of boots and countless gloves while he was there.
He was deployed to Afghanistan, where he stayed for a while, before being hit by a sniper while on guard duty at a base. He didn't make it in time.
I know that he'd still be serving if he wasn't shot. And that he'd be one of those 3,500 guardsmen combating COVID. And I'd have hated to see him going through that again.
@jackson meads He was permanently jacked up. Can't breath properly anymore, and can't run due to it. So he left the guard.

#MyNameIsBlue My uncle was in the National Guard and he went to Iraq and Afghanistan. He never told me what he specifically did, but he was never the same.. I know one day my aunt was on the phone with him and missiles hit their base and they were ambushed.. You are so very correct! Thank you for this comment

I may have been active army, I may have called the NG “weekend warriors” and “PT Soldiers”, but that’s like me calling a Marine a “Crayon Eating Dumbass”, only we get to say it. That’s part of our culture, to make fun of one another.

It is a strong brotherhood. My father was a pilot and the marines and army would always talk trash to the airmen but when those AC-130 gunships or A10s showed up those boys on the ground would sing some praise between the teasing and shit talk. US Military is one big brotherhood and when under the right leadership the various service branches are nothing to mess with.

Preach it, Brother. Retired Air Guardsman here. Was put on Title 10 orders more than once which integrated my Air National Guard unit with Active Duty Personnel. The state ANG now became Federal Active Duty Service.
